It’s All Academic: The Detachment of President Obama
Pajamas Media ^ | Sept. 12 | Melissa Clouthier

Posted on 09/12/2009 7:23:29 AM PDT by AJKauf

President Obama possesses a distressing detachment from both his words and actions. His cool demeanor now seems cold. His movie star nonchalance, calculated. His soaring rhetoric, the words of a pastor who has long since stopped believing them.

Yet it is not Obama who has changed. After having had time to watch him make decisions, the world now simply can see and comprehend who he is.

During the campaign, those who saw this dissonance in Barack Obama could be dismissed as partisan. His most strident critics were accused of heartless cynicism, or worse — bald racism. As if critics of the man were driven primarily by his skin color or else hated all things Democrat. Senator Obama had the misfortune of being both.

Those who disagreed did so because of their “reptilian brain,” said Janeane Garofalo.

Barack Obama seemed right. Processing his words through the frontal lobe, they sounded good. Since he wasn’t pressed or questioned, since even Bill O’Reilly seemed beguiled by Barack Obama’s verbal deftness, he rarely had to prove or defend. He was always given enough rhetorical wiggle room. He still is given that room, by the the press anyway. But something always felt wrong....

In a perfect world:

Anybody stupid enough to have fallen for BO last year and vote for him should have their voting rights taken away permanently. I KNEW he’d be the worst President we have ever had—and he is going to stock all levels of our government with Van Jones clones ( there already were plenty there). This cancer is going to eat away at our country for a long time.

Er, somehow I never went through that phase with this guy. Maybe if I had gone through a front lobotomy...

0bama was elected because of the color of his skin, no other reason.

First term U.S. Senator, absolutely no experience doing anything at all of value. Imagine a white man with his qualifications. He would have been soundly defeated, even by McCain.

Like I said, 0bama is president because he is black. Our very first affirmative action president. Isn’t that “special”?

I posted this yesterday on the Rush thread in regard to Dear Leader's remarks on 9/11:

Not only was the content of the speech a crock, BamBam's delivery was such that he could've been reading a grocery list. There was not an ounce of emotion to be had. Just a flat reading of words off the teleprompter. No sense at all that he has any personal connection whatsoever to the events of that terrible day. We will probably never know the real truth of his birthplace, but it is beyond debate that Barak Hussein Obama is not, culturally, an American.

His voice is so irritating. He makes pauses like he was Walter Cronkite, but with an irritation in his voice.

He's nothing more than an Obama-Tron. And he's programmed to bring damaging change to America.

Excellent, well-written article. Thanks for posting.

I’ve noticed that Obama seems detached too, but it isn’t detachment it’s perplexed surprise. What I’ve noticed a lot lately is that most of the significant pauses in his speeches seem placed there in expectation of cheering but he gets that cheering only rarely these days. He addresses the public so often that people are worn out from all the cheering and clapping. One cannot be enthusiastic about every single speech someone makes but Obama seems to expect that and he’s baffled by the lack of applause to his words. Once in a while, at the end of his speeches, you can catch a glimpse of him as he was on the campaign trail as he gets all fired up by the applause and cheering.

He just doesn’t know how to address a public that expects action instead of emotion-filled speeches designed to motivate a crowd. The public doesn’t want to be motivated anymore. Now they want to be convinced that their president knows what he’s talking about and what exactly he’s going to do about their problems.

And there’s the whole problem. Obama doesn’t know either.

I agree. I never found him to be engaging or a good speaker — he just nevre had toanswer hard questions.
And zero charisma. I hated Bill Clinton, I could see that he had an engaging personality. Ditto Jesse Jackson. But Obama always seemed like a zombie to me.

Obeyme has a sociopathic personality

Obama showed his real attitude by hiring Van Jones, a man who believes that 9/11 was an "inside job" by the Bush administration. Watching the footage from 9/11/2001 which was shown on the Fox special last night, and another program on the History channel, brought back the horrors of that day--yet a few months later Van Jones and others like him were charging that Bush inflicted this on the country to advance his own aims. Obama let him resign--but gets off scot-free of any criticism for hiring him.

I haven't seen the text of Obama's speech yesterday and didn't watch it. I'm wondering if it was a first for him--a speech in which he didn't attack George W. Bush or the Republican Party. Or did he just do so in more veiled language than usual?

0bama is president because he is black.

I blame Obama though because he played his race for all he could get out of it. Most men would be embarrassed to pull such a stunt...but he is a sociopathic manipulator (i.e. no sense of guilt or responsibility).

The author does a nice job dancing around blurting out the truth: Obama is a pathological narcissist. He has no 'self'. That's why he appears detached and academic. It's why his policies are all over the place, why he lies with abandon, why he lies about FACTS, why he flaunts the trappings of power, why he actively seeks adulation, and why he's insistent on getting his way. Obama is literally a textbook example of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

It's often said that most politicians, actors, and CEOs are narcissists. I don't doubt the claim, but Obama is the garden variety narcissist. He's not just selfish, over confident and haughty. He's delusional. His perception of reality is seriously bent.

There is no reasoning with a person like this -- they can't see another person's point of view. In order to do this, the narcissist would have to acknowledge that the other person exists, but to a narcissist everything around them is A Thing to be manipulated for their pleasure. A Thing. Even family. To Obama, Michelle is A Thing. Malia is A Thing. Sasha is A Thing. It's the reason Obama can speak about his grandmother as he does. It's the reason he can so easily throw people under the bus. To Obama, they're not people: they're things.

I acknowledge that a man considering his children Things may be hard to believe for many/most people. Lest anyone think this is an extreme rant by someone blind by racism or hatred, I happen to have had too close of contact with a pathological narcissist. I've experienced this. I know what it looks like. To my narcissistic parent, I was A Thing.

Obama isn't merely an ideologue with whom conservatives disagree. Obama is a man who is incapable of acknowledging that anyone other than himself exists and, as such, he will do whatever he thinks is necessary to protect himself from perceived threats.
