Athlete Caster Semenya has pulled out of her return to competitive sport amid growing fears over the psychological impact of rumours about her sex. The 18-year-old withdrew from a cross-country race in South Africa tomorrow after it was widely reported that a leaked sex test reveals she is a hermaphrodite. Her coach, Michael Seme, said she will not run because she is "not feeling well". South Africa condemned the international media reports as an invasion of the teenager's privacy and threatened a "third world war" if the women's 800m champion is disqualified from athletics.

Dashwood is right...never a case of fully functioning male and female organs.
this runner is a man with some latent female characteristics...but full functioning male parts I’d guess
a physical could have cleared this up easy
btw...women have some testosterone too...it goes up when they drink and makes them hornier

I think the press is using the term for a shorthand for "sexually ambiguous." I assume by your definition, you mean a creature born with complete and functioning male and female organs (womb, testicals, etc.). In this case, it is the opposite (which is what they mean, I think): No womb, vestigial testicles, high testosterone -- a man with a slit, essentially I doubt that, were that the case her family would have allowed a physical and that would have been that. A penis is quite likely with somewhat muted testes development and fully capable of coitus.

Read my posts. Let’s stop splitting hairs on the definition/issue.
Really. It’s 9/12. We have better things to fight for.
I agree. It’s a HE and should probably be disqualified.

no way...if she has no male parts showing then she would be allowed to compete as a woman.
women have testosterone same as men just lower levels usually

If Caster has female secondary characteristics, they are very well hidden.

There are other XY individuals who have androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) - their bodies make testosterone but do not have the receptors for it. They develop as females, typically tall and slender, small-breasted, infertile, not heavily muscled. Partial AIS results in a devlopment more on male side of the spectrum, possibly what affects Semenya. were that the case, her family and coaches would have allowed physical and she would be competing as a chick,,nope...he is a man with some stunted female inner parts maybe

Let's look at the testosterone level issue. According to several sources on the Web, female testosterone levels are between 20 and 80 mg/liter and male testosterone levels are defined as 300 to 1000 mg/liter. There's a big gap between defined male and female testosterone levels. Even if the level is three times the maximum female level (240), that's still less than the minimum male testosterone level (300). Conclusion: Definitely not male testosterone level. actually as someone who has empty sella syndrome from a motorcycle head injuries 35 years ago I can attest that men can have levels under 300..my total without testosterone cyphionate injections runs around 120..and I am anemic..still somewhat horny but stone cold anemic and weak as a pup
I take 200-250 mg or Testosterone Cyphionate self injected in my arse weekly..in fact today is my day come to think of it...my wife used to do it but she took too much pleasure in it..lol
I feel completely different and it kicks my baseline up to around 700-1000 (depends on chart) which is high end...if you are gonna do shots and pay for it why go for low normal?
Free testosterone is the real measurer anyhow btw...and testosterone really peaks abnormally late morning...
but back to this question....a physical exam woulda cured this quick ...I suspect a penis.

I don’t really care about the fertility part. They are called what they are because that is the term used. Don’t be a nitpicker.

As pointed out in post #67, testosterone levels or any other chemical presence can be misleading. This is why I based my analysis on genitalia.
I have been thinking about the leaked "report" about gender test results, and have decided that the "report" is suspicious. The leaked information points in the male direction, but is there information pointing in the female direction? The report doesn't say. Do you suppose the one who released the "leak" is trying to mislead people? Huh?

Whether there has ever been someone with both full sets of organs, none of us can know. There has never been one single documented case... not one...

There is plenty of documented evidence of Hermaphrodites existing. There is absolutely none. And this is not determined by phenotype either.
