Obama co-opts 9/11 and uses it for his political agenda.

RUSH: President Obama was in New York earlier this week to memorialize Walter Cronkite, but just a few days later President Obama did not come to New York to memorialize what happened at the Twin Towers eight years ago today, nor did he send Biden to New York to memorialize Cronkite, but he did send Biden to memorialize 9/11.  But he did not. 

Now, there's a lot to get to today and I'm gonna get to the ACORN stuff, those two people allegedly fired. CNN says "allegedly engaged in alleged illegal acts," they've been fired.  I want to see proof of this. 

CNN also caused a national panic today to the two or three people watching their network, claiming that there was a terrorist incident near the Pentagon when Obama was there when it was just a Coast Guard exercise.  It's an absolute joke.  That's why I say CNN needs to leave the reporting to us professionals.  Like me, I am America's Real Anchorman, they're just a bunch of doofuses. 

But I do want to start with my own remembrance of 9/11, eight years ago today.  I often think of Todd Beamer when I think of 9/11.  Todd Beamer, his impromptu Band of Brothers, they were on Flight 93 eight years ago today.  Small group of private citizens, remarkable patriots, American heroes; didn't wait for a government official to tell them what to do.  They were every bit as heroic and necessary for the survival of America as any of our military fighting forces have been through the years, and that's not to diminish anybody but to elevate both groups of people.  Todd Beamer and his Band of Brothers on Flight 93 loved their country; they fought bravely for it; they saw evil; they fearlessly dealt with it.  On that day without notice or training they gave the full measure of devotion. 

Now, the manner in which President Obama has chosen to commemorate 9/11, the day the country was attacked, and our first retaliation was launched from on board Flight 93, is an outrage.  It is an insult to the memory of innocent Americans who were attacked and who died eight years ago today.  The manner in which Obama has chosen to commemorate 9/11 is an insult to the citizen warriors aboard Flight 93.  When brave Americans sacrificed their lives so the rest of us can live and live free, I think of the Gettysburg Address, I think the history of the Gettysburg Address, what went into Abraham Lincoln writing it and how, at the time, underappreciated it was and how he was a little insecure about it himself after he had written it.  Before I go further, I want you to hear how President Obama is commemorating 9/11.  This could be the most outrageous moment yet of the Obama presidency, twisting 9/11 into a nationalist day of service to the state.

OBAMA:  On this first National Day of Service and Remembrance, we can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America to serve our communities, to strengthen our country, and to better our world.  Let us renew our common purpose, let us remember how we came together as one nation, as one people, as Americans, united not only in our grief but in our resolve to stand with one another, to stand up for the country we all love.

RUSH:  This is an outrage, to take this day and to twist it into a nationalist day of service to the state and to our communities is insulting.  It's insensitive.  It is beyond the pale, but it's typical of who Obama is.  This happened this morning in Arlington at the Pentagon, the 9/11 memorial service.  Here's another portion of his remarks.

OBAMA:  This may be the greatest lesson of this day, the strongest rebuke to those who attacked us, the highest tribute to those taken from us, that such sense of purpose not need be a fleeting moment, it can be a lasting virtue.  But through their own lives and through you, the loved ones that they left behind, the men and women who lost their lives eight years ago today leave a legacy that still shines brightly in the darkness and it calls on all of us to be strong and firm and united.  That is our calling today and in all the Septembers still to come. 
 
RUSH: Remember how he started these remarks. On this first National Day of Service and Remembrance we can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America to serve our communities, to strengthen our country, and to better our world. A national day of service. When brave Americans sacrificed their lives so the rest of us can live and live free, I don't think of a national day of service to the state. And I don't care about empathizing with the enemy, which Obama asked us to do when he was in Illinois. It's a little-known set of remarks, he was just Illinois state Senator in 2001, but he issued a statement that I have here somewhere in the stack that we need to empathize, and we need to understand why these people are doing what they're doing, meaning our enemy.

When I come across my memories of 9/11 I think of the Gettysburg Address. It's one of the few times that words matter far more than a contrived day of community service. The president's call for community service demeans what happened on 9/11. It is a distraction from what was and is important. So I want to do two things to try to distract from the insulting, demeaning remarks of the president of the United States today, calling on us to all serve our state and our community. I'm going to read you the Gettysburg Address and then I'm going to read you Todd Beamer's story and then I'm going to play sound bite number seven again. Here's the Gettysburg Address. It's very short.

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Lincoln thought his words would never, ever be remembered. He wanted the dead and their sacrifice to be remembered. That's November 1863, the Gettysburg Address. Here's the Todd Beamer story from UnitedHeroes.com: "Todd Beamer, who resided in Cranbury, New Jersey, was an account manager for the Oracle Corporation. He died at age 32 in the September 11, 2001 attacks on board United Airlines Flight 93. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Beamer, two sons, David and Drew, and a daughter, Morgan Kay, who was born on January 9, 2002, nearly four months after her father's death. Todd and other passengers had been in communication with people via in-plane and cell phones and learned that the World Trade Center had been attacked using hijacked airplanes. Beamer tried to place a credit card call through a phone located on the back of a plane seat but was routed to a customer-service representative instead, who passed him on to supervisor Lisa Jefferson.

"Beamer reported that one passenger was killed and, later, that a flight attendant had told him the pilot and co-pilot had been forced from the cockpit and may have been wounded. He was also on the phone when the plane made its turn in a southeasterly direction, a move that had him briefly panicking. Later, he told the operator that some of the plane's passengers were planning to 'jump on' the hijackers. According to Jefferson, Beamer's last audible words were 'Are you guys ready? Let's roll.' They burst into the cockpit and fought with the terrorists over the controls for the plane," and it went down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania depriving the terrorists of hitting the third target on September 11th.

Abraham Lincoln: "But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground," the battlefield at Gettysburg. You can say the same thing about the World Trade Center, which remains a shovel-ready project eight years later in New York. "The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. ... that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth," Abraham Lincoln, 1863. Here's Barack Obama this morning.

OBAMA: On this first National Day of Service and Remembrance, we can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America to serve our communities, to strengthen our country, and to better our world. Let us renew our common purpose. Let us remember how we came together as one nation, as one people, as Americans, united not only in our grief but in our resolve to stand with one another, to stand up for the country we all love.

RUSH: Yeah, for about two weeks, for about two weeks you stood together and then the Democrat Party decided it was time to go strategic politics and dump all over George W. Bush for not doing anything, for not responding soon enough. The same night the Democrat Party decided to disband from its unified stance with America, Bush launched the attack on Tora Bora in Afghanistan, which should have made fools of the Democrat Party. Instead, a year later we got the Wellstone Memorial, we got the "Bush lied and people died," we had the Democrat Party taking victory and turning it into defeat, doing everything they could to demoralize the United States military and its mission in Iraq and Afghanistan, doing everything they could except defund it, doing everything they could to achieve defeat for their own country. The unity lasted two weeks. And they today tell us that the hatred and vitriol resides now in the voice of a lone congressman from South Carolina, Joe Wilson, who simply could not stand being lied to by the president of the United States, in a fraudulent, demeaning, disgusting address. He has now compounded the fraud, the disgust, and the indignity of his remarks on Wednesday night with the proclamation on the eighth anniversary of 9/11 that this is the first national day of service to the state. I'm simply appalled. 
 
BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  The mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, is certainly no Rudy Giuliani.  He has followed Obama's orders issued earlier this morning...

BLOOMBERG:  President Obama has designated 9/11 as an annually recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance; and appropriately, the city of New York has been the first to take up that call.  From this day forward, we will safeguard the memories of those who died by rekindling the spirit of service that lit our city with hope and helped keep us strong.

RUSH:  So what is this "spirit of service" that needs to be rekindled? What are we gonna do, pick up the trash, recycle cans, rake leaves, collect returnable bottles?  What are we going to do? Plant a flower? What? Why don't you rebuild the World Trade Center, for crying out loud! You have a shovel-ready project there for eight years and it's all tied up you still got a hole in the ground with a crane.  Rekindling of the spirit of service that lit the city with hope?  Sorry, folks, this simply doesn't pass muster with me.  That's not what 9/11 is about.  We didn't have a breakdown in community spirit on 9/11! We were attacked by enemies.  That was not a crime.  The president's out there saying, "These heinous crimes. These perpetrators must be brought to justice."

There were no "crimes."  9/11 was an act of war!  What in the world...? The spirit of service that lit our city with hope?  From this day forward we're going to safeguard...? What have you been doing the last eight years, Mr. Mayor?  "From this day forward we're going to safeguard the memories of those who died by rekindling the spirit of service"?  Is that what Lincoln said at Gettysburg: "We're going to keep the spirit of those who died by rekindling our spirit of service"?  There's a disconnect in this country like I haven't seen my whole life.  It may not even be just two countries anymore.  It may be two or three different countries.  Finding a common American culture today is a difficult thing to do.  We are so multicultured and fractured here, and none of the cultures seem to understand one another.  This spirit of service?  National Day of Service? 

"We can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America to serve our communities"?  You mean to tell me that we were attacked 9/11 because we weren't serving our communities well enough?  We didn't have this "spirit of community service" flowing through our veins and arteries sufficiently enough to ward off the attacks -- and to prevent further attacks, we need to "rekindle" this "spirit of service"?  Community service?  What?  We all have to be become ACORN people now?  We all have to start advising people how to set up brothels for underage prostitutes and teach them how to avoid paying taxes?  That's what Obama's community service organization's doing.  And, by the way, the same two people who ran that scam in Baltimore have done the same thing in Washington and the same thing happened. 

They got the identical set of advice from the people at ACORN: "Yeah, here's how you can get illegals into the country. Here's how underage women can be turned into prostitutes. Here's how you can avoid paying taxes on it." ACORN has the name "community service" in its name -- "community organizers" in its name: For Reform Now.  I want to know. I want somebody to tell me. I want somebody out there who thinks Obama made a great speech today and Bloomberg echoing it. I want you to call me today and I want you to tell me how it is that our fractured sense of community service led to the "crimes" committed against us in New York and Washington and in Pennsylvania on 9/11.  And I want to know from you how it is that rekindling this "spirit of community service," whatever the hell that means, is going to prevent the next attack on this country.  Somebody, please.

RUSH: Now, I mentioned in the opening remarks here that Obama wanted to return on this "day of service" to the "unity" that we all had after 9/11, which lasted for two weeks until the Democrats decided to turn the whole thing into a political event. And they're still doing it regarding the military, regarding the war. I mean, how do you do -- how in the world do you do -- a 9/11 memorial service at the Pentagon and not talk about the US military, for crying out loud? How in the world do you do that?  You're president of the United States, and you declare it a community service day to make sure that days like this don't ever happen again!

RUSH: Back to the phones.  Cell from Pennsylvania. This is Alan, nice to have on you on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  Thanks for taking my call.  As regards to your comments in the last segment maybe President Obama will find a way to get hookers a new stimulus.  But I'd like to talk to you about 9/11.  On that day Flight 93 was the one obviously that crashed in Pennsylvania and I flew that flight on Thursdays, and as the saying goes, "There but for the grace of God go I."

RUSH:  That's three days later, right? That's when they finally cleared airspace and let planes start flying again.

CALLER:  No, I flew that flight regularly on Thursdays in September.  That was my regular trip.

RUSH:  Yeah, but the Thursday that you flew, are you talking about before 9/11 happened or afterwards?

CALLER:  No, I flew it the previous Thursday and I was supposed to fly the Thursday after.

RUSH:  I got it.  Okay.

CALLER:  This is subsequent Thursday.

RUSH:  I see.  I got it.

CALLER:  Everything happened on Tuesday.  But I'd really like to thank you on behalf of so many people for all you do for everybody in America that doesn't have the voice that you do.  We're on our way down to Washington right now -- myself and my wife, Rhonda, and my 13-year-old son, Ian -- to participate in this rally.  We've never been political in our lives, and --

RUSH:  It's going to be huge. That's this National Tea Party tomorrow?

CALLER:  Yes.

RUSH:  That is going to be huge.

CALLER:  Yes.  And I think it will be a tremendous civics lesson for our son, and it's been your voice -- and those of Sean and Glenn Beck, but mostly you -- that have spurred us on to this action.  And I want to thank you for giving us the knowledge and the courage to go through with everything that we have to get our country back.

RUSH:  Thank you very much, Alan.  I really appreciate that.  Although I actually think that more than any of us in the media, what's inspiring all this is genuine events.  I mean, you've never done anything like this, and I haven't told you to go.  You're doing this because you are fed up.  You're doing this because you're scared. You're doing this because you're angry. You've got a mixture of emotions, and everybody showing up is showing up because of genuine passion for the issue.

CALLER:  That's exactly right.  We've never been political, although I've enjoyed politics. But we've never been active.  And this woke us up to the fact that we have to do something for ourselves and our country, and this is the path that we've chosen.

RUSH:  Well, it's a good one. You're full of thanks for me, and I appreciate it.  But I've been saying since these tea parties started that I am just as proud as I can be of everybody showing up, because this is not the way people on our side of the aisle usually behave. This kind of activism is usually the exclusive property and behavior of the left but this has sprung up out of genuine anger and passion, and like I said: Nobody told you to go.  You're not going because somebody said, "Hey, join us. Make sure you're there."  Somebody might have said that in an indirect way, but you're going there because you want to go. You've never done anything like that before, and most of the people showing up are going to be that way. And I predict you are going to have a wonderful time meeting all these people. 
 
CALLER:  Exactly right.  And your voice of reason in what I consider to be the most unreasonable time I have ever spent in my life, is a guiding light for just about all of us.  And on behalf of the millions of people out there, I'd like to thank you personally.

RUSH: Folks, this is hilarious.  If it weren't so sad, if it weren't so incompetent, it would be genuinely hilarious.  This is from Politico.com.  They have discovered an e-mail that the secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has sent to her staffers today, and here it is:

Service projects marking the eight-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, will take place in all 50 states, ranging from food drives and home repairs to neighborhood cleanups and disaster preparation activities. Attached is the President and First Lady's Call to Service.

In the spirit of service, we're asking for your help to stop the spread of the [pig flu] virus by forwarding the "5 Things You Need to Know About [Pig] Flu" (attached) to at least 10 of your family members and friends -- and ask them to forward the attachment, too. Sending this information to as many people as possible is a simple way you can help prevent illness across the country this fall.

National Day of Service and Remembrance! Service projects! Here's your ACORN community organizer, also known as the president of the United States, sending out these memos.  His departments are sending out these memos, and the way we are going to honor those 3,000 who lost their lives on 9/11 eight years ago, and those in the military who have lost their lives, have been wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, is to send out an e-mail attachment: "5 Things You Need to Know About [Pig] Flu," and then urging everybody else to send out those "5 Things You Need to Know About [Pig] Flu."  Now, I got this late in the break, and I haven't had a chance to read the whole thing so I don't know what the five things are.  I'm going to find out what the five things are in the next commercial break, 'cause I'm fascinated to see what these are.  When your government is sending out through the Department of Health and Human Services, five things you can do, I just want to see what they are.  I want to see what they are attempting to do here.  Rob in New York City.  Welcome to the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  You're off the mark. You're wide of the bull's-eye. You're heading in the right direction but on this community service thing you're missing some of the history, and I think you're missing the more uplifting and more American part of that community service thing.  I was in New York on 9/11. I was there for the months after. I'm still a New Yorker. Can I tell you very briefly what I experienced in the way of community service in that event?

RUSH:  You can tell me all day long and it's not going to change my mind.  This is not a day of community service.

CALLER:  After that event --

RUSH:  Just the same thing as D-Day is not a day of community service. Pearl Harbor day is not a day we do community service.

CALLER:  Well, I understand that point in a way, but after the attacks, there was this huge outpouring. Now, this is key: It was voluntary.  Now, I think that's the point.  People poured in from all over the country, and including within the city, people volunteered to help the rescue workers, the ironworkers, the legal staff, the --

RUSH:  Well, of course!  Wait a second.  That's the tradition and history of the country we've always done that.  There was nothing special about that.

CALLER:  Well, it was unique for Manhattan.  It was. It was incredible, Rush.  I was there, and I experienced it for months.  Every time I went to this one volunteer site to volunteer they had to send me home. There were so many people coming from Poughkeepsie, Des Moines, Fort Collins. They couldn't use me.I only had a 20-minute subway ride so they kept sending me home because there were thousands of people coming to do these projects to help out so it was and -- that is not typical of Manhattan.

RUSH:  Rob, you know, this is disturbing to me.  And this is why I think we're losing the country in a lot of segments of it.  What you're describing is traditional American exceptionalism.  We used to do this all the time for each other through churches and charities and so forth. In World War II we came together like this. After Pearl Harbor we came together like this and we have days where we commemorate all this, and now it's being turned into something that has nothing to do with the "event" that happened. It's being used to politicize the agenda of a leftist radical president who doesn't have the slightest bit of comprehension of why all that you just described -- the volunteerism -- happened.  He's ignoring it!

CALLER:  I agree with you there.

RUSH:  I think America was that.  I don't know about Manhattan.  I only lived there from 1988 to 1997. 

CALLER:  Well, I think --

RUSH:  But I've seen pictures on, you know, VE-Day, Times Square. I think everybody came together.

CALLER:  Yes, and the thing is, where you're absolutely right is, the government did not ask for, demand, require this.  It happened spontaneously, voluntarily, and that was a great American thing and the uplifting thing.  And that is a message.  But you're right what the commemoration of 9/11 should be.

RUSH:  That's good.  Okay, thank you, because what bothers me about this is Obama is co-opting.  Kathleen Sebelius, Obama's administration, is co-opting this day and turning it into a way to further their political agenda by having people do community service for The State.  There's no outpouring of national community service going on today for the remembrance of 9/11.  I've watched pictures from the Pentagon and from Ground Zero (which remains a shovel-ready pit) and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and I don't see people picking up trash, I don't see any community service going on. I see a remembrance of what happened at these places.  Obama is trying to take this and transform these events to advance his own political leftist radical agenda, and the key words here are "community service." 

When you hear "community service," you've got to think ACORN.  You have to think leftist radical agitators trying to tear down the American system.  That's what community service, that's what community agitation is all about.  Think Saul Alinsky.  He's trying to get people to stop thinking about themselves, to stop thinking about their communities, to stop thinking about traditional institutions of America and instead is trying to get them to serve him and his agenda.  And this is just a few short days after he lied through his teeth to the American people repeatedly and often on the floor of the US House of Representatives.  To me, this is potentially the lowest point of his presidency.  This is a sacred day.  We lost more people eight years ago on this day than at any single one-day period in an act of war in our history in an attack by a foreign enemy on our soil.  I know the Civil War had battle where more were lost.  I'm talking about a foreign enemy.  And what?  Now we're getting community service and volunteerism and, "Go out there and rake the leaves and pick up the trash!  Turn in the bottles for your 5¢ recycle donation," or whatever the hell community service means.

RUSH:  I just got an e-mail that I must share with you.  Dear Rush:  "We, in this generation, are not used to the gravity of that large-scale of people helping each other from all over.  We haven't gone through anything like that, only read about it -- World War II -- in books.  Your last caller was right, but it still has nothing to do with honoring or remembering 9/11."  I am assuming that this person's age is somewhat younger than would necessarily have been alive during World War II, but what happened after Hurricane Katrina?  I mean the idea that you haven't seen this kind of volunteerism before?  What about when there were floods, what about these people all over the country when there are earthquakes in San Francisco, we've seen this all over the place.  This is interesting, people don't see that it happens.  Somehow it's unique, we gotta call to community service now.  During 9/11 in Manhattan they were scared to death.  Nobody knew what tomorrow was going to bring.  And we're trying to wipe that memory out, we're calling these heinous crimes and so forth. 

But I want to remind you, it took just two weeks for the Democrat Party to blow that all to hell by politicizing Bush's reaction, his behavior, sitting in the schoolroom reading to the kids.  Peter Jennings on ABC saying, "Some presidents are just better at this, consoling the nation, than others are."  Meaning, "Oh, Clinton was so wonderful in these circumstances like after the Oklahoma City bombing."  You think they didn't come together down there, Oklahoma City?  This is what traditional American behavior has always been.  There's nothing special.  We don't need calls for community service!  We're Americans! We do it!  For crying out loud, we serve our communities each and every day.  This insults the hell out of me, that we're such sheeple now, that we are so mind-numbed, that we're so much robots that the government's gotta tell us what to do.  Now the Health and Human Services secretary is sending an e-mail to the employees in her department saying we're going to celebrate 9/11, we're going to remember it by sending out an e-mail with five things to do regarding the pig flu.  And, by the way, the story does not have the memo.  So I don't know what the five things are.  But I'm going to find out.

RUSH: We had a caller, a nice guy, Rob from Manhattan earlier in the day who said, "You know, I think you're misunderstanding Obama. He's kind of right. Manhattan after 9/11 came together like Manhattan never has. It's right to call out for community service."  The problem here, folks, is that 9/11, eight years ago today, we're not remembering it for what it should be remembered for.  Obama's hijacking this to push his agenda.  He's hijacking this event that he knows is going to get full-fledged media coverage all day long.  He's hijacking this for what sounds like a wonderful thing. "Well, community service. We all gotta get together." You gotta understand "community service" is nothing more than community organizing.  It is a tactic.  Community service is one of the baby steps toward fascism. 

So many things that Obama does appear to be isolated, but they are interconnected to organizing the private sector to serve the state -- and that's not the way this country was founded.  You have to remember this about Barack Obama.  He does not like this country as constituted.  He does not like the US Constitution.  He just had somebody else appointed as a czar, Cass Sunstein or maybe not a czar. He's appointed somewhere, I forget to what. Cass Sunstein is one of these people, he's a legal professor, law professor somewhere. He's a lawyer. He's one of these people that believes the Bill of Rights equals "negative rights."  Now, the United States Constitution tells the government what it cannot do to its people.  It cannot infringe upon our freedom in these ways.  People like Cass Sunstein and Barack Obama look at that as negative! 

The Constitution is an obstacle to them.  The concept of "negative rights" means that the Bill of Rights does not tell leaders of the government what they can do to us.  They say "for us," but what they mean is "to us."  They feel constrained by it.  Now, I said yesterday: Barack Obama has a chip on his shoulder about this country and everybody in this administration does.  This Van Jones guy would not have been in this administration if he didn't believe everything that Obama believes.  Van Jones is Obama! Mark Lloyd at the FCC is Obama.  We have genuine radical who has been raised by people who hated this country.  He has been taught by people who hate this country. He attended church for 20 years and listened to sermons preached by a pastor, Jeremiah Wright, who hates this country.  One of his good friends blew up the Pentagon, Bill Ayers.

This is not insignificant and it is not unimportant.  It is crucially important.  You have to understand that the man does not like this country and intends to change it.  He's out apologizing for this country in every foreign trip that he makes.  Barack Obama believes this country has been immoral and unjust since its founding. A bunch of slave owners founded this country, in his view, and he didn't get a vote on that Constitution.  He woulda never voted for it!  And so, until he became president, this country was in sin.  But now that he's president, this country is becoming just and moral -- and it's at that point that we arrive at my trying to convince you here that this call for "community service" and all this rotgut today ought to offend you to no end.  It would be no different than taking Pearl Harbor Day and turning it into a day of community service.

What is happening is Barack Obama believes there is no basic goodness in the American spirit without his prompting it.  I know it's hard to believe that we've elected somebody like this but it is what it is and we have to deal with it -- and up until his immaculation, this country was not the way you look at it.  But now that he's there, now that he's president, basic goodness finally has come to America and its spirit.  But only because of his presence, only because of Obama's urging will we now become a just and moral and fair country.  We will give up our profits. We will give up our prosperity.  We will return ourselves to poverty so as to be equal with the rest of the world.  Everything is government top-down with him.  Free enterprise cannot work.  Basic human kindness cannot happen without his prompting it. 
 
Basic human kindness cannot occur without Barack Obama happening.  You do not know how to save yourself from the H1N1 flu without the Health and Human Services sending out a memo on 9/11 claiming that we're honoring national service -- and one of the things we're going to do is send you a little e-mail on how not to get the swine flu!  This is abhorrent.  So this call for community service... See, this is how these people work.  I mean, who could oppose community service?  Who could oppose people helping one another?  It's just like environmentalists: "Who could oppose dirty water? Who could be against clean air?  Who can be against saving the climate?"  Folks, you've got to understand issue to issue to issue, it doesn't matter what it is: It's always going to be couched in compassion, proving your life, making health care bettered. 

All it is is a baby step device to rob you of your freedom.  So many things that he does appear to be isolated, but they are connected to organizing the private sector to serve the state.  Here we are on 9/11, and Barack Obama's out there with this call for national service.  Well, on a day of national service, don't you think it would be a good idea to thank the CIA rather than prosecute them?  But we're not thanking them.  This president wants to prosecute them with his incompetent attorney general, Eric Holder.  Maybe you don't want to admit this. Maybe you don't want to have to think about this, be conscious of it every day, all day.  Sorry, I can't help it, I love the country too much, and I know the language -- and I know community service is BS.  Community service equals ACORN, and that's how you have to start understanding it.

Community activism. Community agitation. Upsetting the status quo. Taking power from people. Disrupting life, chaos all over the place. That's what community service is.  Returning the nation's worth to its, quote, unquote, "rightful owners," the poor people in the unions and the minorities who have had their lives screwed for 200 years by a Constitution written by white slave owners.  This is what we're up against. This is why I'm just as angry at hell as people that say Joe Wilson ought to apologize. The president of the United States needs to apologize!  He actually needs to resign.  He needs to apologize for lying and defrauding the American people for 35 minutes to an hour Wednesday night on the floor of the House of Representatives in a speech to a joint session of Congress.  We're talking about Republican incivility when we've had all these acts of terror committed by Democrats, hoping that we'd lose in Iraq?

Destroying the entire family of Sarah Palin or trying to? It's beyond the pale, and I found something here. It's a column by Chris Matthews, written on 9/13, 2001, two days after 9/11.  "Lucky though he was, Bill Clinton never had his shot at greatness. He could lower the jobless rate, balance the budget, console us after the Oklahoma City bombing. But he never got the opportunity George W. Bush was given this Tuesday: the historic chance to lead. Our American spirit, power and enterprise now stand ready for orders. Only the president can give them. Only the man in the White House can tell us whom to strike and with what weapon. Bush's first challenge is to size up the enemy for us.

"Americans need to know what we're up against. Most important, we need to know that we face an adversary who is ruthless in exploiting our distinctive strengths and character and using both against us." Now, I don't know how Chris wrote this because he's not of this mind today.  Bush is a fraud and a liar to Matthews.  But even so, two days after 9/11 -- We hear about all this unity that we had? -- here's Chris Matthews lamenting the fact that Bill Clinton never had this kind of "opportunity," (tearing up the column), never had an attack on American soil by a foreign enemy.  That's the way their minds work.  Everything is political!  It's a horse race; it's an opportunity.

CALLER:  How you doing, Rush?  Thanks for taking my call.

RUSH:  You bet, sir.

CALLER:  I want to call and speak to you about this whole 9/11 community service thing.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  I'm originally from New York.  I was a volunteer firefighter and I'm currently active duty in the military.  And my dad was in NYPD at the time, so we knew people who died on 9/11, and obviously I think community service is a great thing, and don't get me wrong, it's great that Obama is trying to push that, but, first of all, I don't think we need to have a day set aside for community service.  We're all Americans and if you don't have the decency to help out every now and then, if you're just going to do it one day a year then, you know what?  Don't bother. I don't want your help.  And secondly I'm pretty sure --

RUSH:  That's a good point.  If it's just a one-day thing, but that's not what it is.  But I get your point, that's a great point but that's not what Obama is doing.  Before you get to your second point I just have to say, he's not talking about community service.  He's just using the words.  When you say, well, obviously community service is a great thing, his version of community service is not a good thing.  His version of community service is going to destroy this country if everybody falls prey to it.  Now, what's your second point?

CALLER:  And my main point is to make 9/11 a day of community service I think is disgusting.  I can tell you that the families that lost somebody on 9/11, and people who even died on 9/11, they don't want to be remembered by you going out and picking up garbage on a beach.  If you want to do community service, you know, for 9/11, walk down the street to, you know, a widow of a firefighter or police officer that died. 

RUSH:  You're exactly right, but let me add to this. You are exactly right, but this whole effort to co-opt what this day is all about and turn it into an attempt to advance his agenda, to turn the private sector into something that services his government is what this is all about.  The idea that we don't do community service in this country is offensive to me.  This country, for crying out loud, look at the tsunami over there in the Pacific.  It was the United States that rides in and saves the day.  We are the most charitable people on earth for others on the planet and ourselves.  Even today in the recession there are considerable dollars being donated to charity by lots of people.  This whole notion that somehow we've gotta be called to community service today as though we don't do it and that we haven't been this kind of people until Obama got into the Oval Office offends the hell out of me!  The term community service offends the hell out of me.  Let prisoners do it, let prisoners pick up the trash, let prisoners mow some highway grass. 

This community service, folks, it's insidious.  It is nothing more than a well-sounding, compassionate label, but it means something entirely different.  It means turning you into a robot.  It means turning the focus of your life into how can you serve Obama by serving his agenda.  I mean look at how the guy community organizes.  The result of Barack Obama community organization got people beat up at tea parties.  When Obama needed to organize the community he called the unions.  He called the AFL-CIO, and he called the Service Employees International Union, because none of his own supporters had enough passion about this health care thing to show up on their own.  So Obama had to mobilize his community organizers.  They showed up, and they intimidated and they beat up in some cases average, ordinary Americans who are trying to hold onto their country.  You are called mobsters and Nazis by Obama's community organizers.  Somebody referred to this thing in Washington tomorrow as the Million Mob March.  I kind of like it as a play on words, the Million Man March, but community service, it's not what you think.

RUSH: We're going to start on the phones in San Diego with Mark.  Thank you, sir, for calling.  Nice to have you here with us.

CALLER:  Thanks, Rush.  I'm wondering what you and your establishment friends are going to do now that over one-third of Americans from both political parties believe that the attacks of 9/11 were an inside job and your propaganda and your gatekeeping is not having the effect that you and your puppet masters thought it would.

RUSH:  Well, you know something, Mark, what that tells me is that we're losing one-third of the country to a bunch of insane lunatics, that 9/11 was an inside job.  I saw an interview, Mark, with Charlie Sheen.  Charlie Sheen got 20 minutes with Barack Obama.  I read the transcript.  And Charlie Sheen said, "Hey, the president's the president, don't you realize 9/11 was an inside job?"  And Obama didn't want to go there.  If you can't get the leader of your kooks to go along with what you kooks believe, then I would say that you've got a kook cause, 9/11 an inside job.  I fear for the country because of such insanity and I've talked about the fact that we're two or three countries today.  I have no illusion that I have any ability to reach the insane.  I have no ability that I have any sway over lunatics.  And, frankly, I don't even try.  What I'm trying to do is make sure that the number of lunatics, the numbers of the genuinely politically insane remain as small as one-third so that you will forever remain the stupid idiot minority that you are. 

You know, something, folks, if George Bush were president today, let's see it's 2007, and it's the sixth anniversary of 9/11, and if George Bush were president -- remember, now, the Iraq war still going on, coming up on the surge.  And this training exercise had happened -- let's say everything is the same except Bush is president -- he's doing a memorial at the Pentagon and the Coast Guard runs this training exercise, do you know what the Drive-Bys would report?  That Bush faked and staged and purposely did this exercise to scare everybody to death to realize we have real problems and to get everybody trying to support Iraq.  They would say that Bush was behind it.  Your lunatic friends, Mark, your kook insaniacs, that would be your take on it.  What do we get today?  "Oh, no, oh, no, CNN, oh, no, the infobabe at CNN, 'Obama safe?  Is Obama safe?'"  (crying)  It led them to the most embarrassing hour or two of reporting probably this week for CNN.  I mean you have to categorize CNN's embarrassments by the week, not even by the month or by the year.

RUSH:  You may have a request, yes, it's Open Line Friday.  We extend all kinds of courtesies, but we've got a minute, max, so get to it.

CALLER:  I have a meeting coming up with President Obama because my wife is a physician and she has good ideas about health care reform.  Is it okay for now to call a truce?  Can you meet President Obama if I make that request at the White House?

RUSH:  Well, I've already had somebody who knows David Axelrod ask me if I would meet with President Obama, and I said, "Sure," I mean it will never happen, but I'll be glad to meet with President Obama.

CALLER:  Great.

RUSH:  But Obama's going to be listening to your wife on health care ideas?  Good grief.

RUSH:  Ladies and gentlemen, just so you know, the first two callers to this program have lied, totally lied to the call screener today about that which they wish to speak to me.  They have lied through their teeth, both of them have, in order to get on this program.  And the call screener said, "Hey, is there a trend out there?  Do you want me to --" "Nah, let 'em in, let 'em in, I can handle 'em, I'm the host, they can't trick me."  But it just tells me they're worried out there, folks.  So maybe, you know, a mounted campaign here of seminar callers.  Just wanted you to know, first two callers lied through their teeth to us.

This is CNN:  A Sewer with No Filter
CNN reports a bogus story, scares nation on 9/11.

RUSH: CNN just looks silly today.  They need to turn over reporting to professional journalists like me: America's Real Anchorman.  CNN: "The US Coast Guard tried Friday to prevent a boat from entering a security zone on the Potomac River not far from the Pentagon where [The One] was at an event commemorating the 9/11 attacks.  There were reports on police scanners that the Coast Guard fired ten rounds of ammo but those reports couldn't be confirmed."  Let's go to the sound bites, and I want to ask Tom Friedman and Tom Brokaw who were on Meet the Press this past Sunday saying, "The Internet's a sewer, and there's no filter out there, and you've just can't believe anything you read or hear unless you hear it from us: The professional journalists in the mode of Walter 'Klondike'."  So here's Heidi Collins in our first series of sound bites illustrating CNN erroneously reporting shots fired on the Potomac near Obama.

COLLINS:  The Coast Guard has apparently fired some type of shots.  We, quite frankly, do not know if those were warning shots. Ten rounds were fired on a boat that came into this restricted space that is very well known in the area of the Potomac that you are looking at right now.

RUSH:  Now, CNN next up played a tape, audio of the Coast Guard apprently speaking to a suspicious boat.  The Coast Guard speaker is heard saying, "Slow down or you will be fired on."

COAST GUARD:  If you don't slow down, stop your vessel and exit our zone, you will be fired upon.

COLLINS:  All right, once again that's some of the communications that we heard the Coast Guard.  To me, Fran, if you could -- if you were able to hear that and if you are still with us, it sounds to me like that was actually communication with the suspicious boat.

RUSH:  Now, we go back to Heidi Collins here, major concern. We have a montage here. A major concern during the exercise was the president's safety.  It turns out the whole thing was a training exercise.  Now, remember, President Bush was criticized for taking evasive actions during the actual 9/11 attacks. Obama got the hell out of there when this exercise started.  But here's the montage of CNN concerned and fretting over Obama's safety during the training exercise.

COLLINS:  What happens to the president during something like this?  Does the motorcade go this way to get him back to the White House? 

COLLINS: We are learning, too, uh, just to make sure that we're, uh, as accurate as we can be in the middle of all of this: The president is back at the White House. Would this be a normal route? Or, I mean, I guess, uhh, there's no normal route because you have to change it up.  Nobody wants to know exactly where he is at all times. 

COLLINS: He's at the White House.  He is, uh, secure in that building.  It is interesting, uh, to talk about these routes obviously, uh, constantly changing so that there is no pattern for which mode (sic) of travel the president would be taking.

RUSH:  No, not "mode;" route! (sigh) Anyway they then later on learned that it was all a training exercise and there were no shots fired. As part of the training exercise, the guy on the radio talking to this so-called suspicious boat shouts "Bang! Bang! Bang!" and somebody at CNN hears that "Bang! Bang! Bang!" and thinks, "Oh, shots have been fired!"  So on CNN's Newsroom later on after all this had been cleared up and understood, Heidi Collins spoke with the former Bush Homeland Security advisor Fran Townsend about a Coast Guard safety training exercise on the Potomac River and said, "Would they run a training exercise on 9/11?  Why would they do that?"

REPORTER:  As I once said about the buzz over lower Manhattan: It would be "felony stupidity" if they decided to run a training exercise on September the 11th at the same time that the president was at the Pentagon.  It is inconceivable that any person in the government would have approved a training exercise on this day.  The government has made these sorts of mistakes in the past, as we have seen. It really would be a tragic, horrible mistake -- for which people should be held accountable, by the way -- if there is a training exercise like this in this area on this day. 
 
RUSH:  I'm sorry, but to me this all ends up back on the desk of Barack Obama.  I guarantee you, folks, Air Force One does not take off without him knowing it is going.  It's his airplane.  Moving Air Force One is an official decision.  Nobody takes it out for a joyride, and they flew that thing over lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty and they had people scared to death because it was at an altitude that people couldn't tell them it was Air Force One. There was no preannouncement it was Air Force One. It just looked like a jumbo jet, you know, doing a flyover. It turns out we still don't know who was on that airplane and why.  They told us they were out getting new pictures of Air Force One next to the statue.  I have heard, I can't confirm it, that a bunch of campaign contributors were on that flight; that it was just, you know, a payback. But who knows. 

So I guarantee you, Obama knew that was going to happen.  There is no way -- and they fired some little schlub in the military office for that, but there is no way that he doesn't know, because he's a gotta be told, "Look, you can't make a sudden decision to go anywhere 'cause this plane is gonna be up there taking pictures over the Statue of Liberty."  He has to know.  So they had a training exercise here on 9/11, he's at the Pentagon, the training exercise with the Coast Guard on the Potomac.  Look, it's the Keystone Cops up there.  It's the same bunch of people. It was just a community service exercise.  That's all the Coast Guard was doing: Exercising community service, renewing our service and our commitment to service to keep our community strong so forth.  Now, let's go back and listen to Tom Brokaw and Tom Friedman from Sunday Meet the Press on the New Media sewer of misinformation.

BROKAW:  A lot of people will repeat back to me and take it at face value something that they read on the Internet.  And my line to them is, "You have to vet information." ... [B]ecause there is so much disinformation out there that it's frightening, frankly, in a free society that depends on information to make informed decisions.  And this is across the board, by the way.  It's not just one side of the political spectrum or the other. It is across the board, David.  And it's something that we all have to address, and it requires society and political and cultural leaders to stand up and say, "This is crazy."

RUSH:  Yeah, well, what would you say about CNN today, Tom, my boy?  What would say about CNN just going nuts here reporting something that wasn't true?  Is CNN a sewer?  Let's listen to Tom Friedman.

FRIEDMAN:  The Internet is an open sewer of untreated, unfiltered information, left, right, center, up, down, and requires that kind of filtering, by anyone.  And I -- I always felt, you know, when modems first came out, when that was how we got connected to the Internet, that every modem sold in America should actually have come with a warning from the Surgeon General that would have said "judgment not included." 

BROKAW: (haughty chuckle)

FRIEDMAN: Okay? That you'd, um, have t-to upload the old-fashioned way, church, synagogue, temple, mosque, teachers, schools, you know. And too often now people say and we've all heard it, "But I read it on the Internet," as if that solves the bar bet, you know? And I'm afraid not.

Poll:  Reagan Label Still a Winner

RUSH: Rasmussen has released a poll.  It's interesting.  If we are to believe this, there can be no conclusion other than we are a conservative country.  "'Progressive' is becoming more of a dirty word, but all political labels -- except 'being like Ronald Reagan' -- are falling into disfavor with many US voters, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.  'Liberal' is still the worst and remains the only political description that is viewed more negatively than positively. Being like Reagan is still the most positive thing you can say about a candidate.  Just 15% of voters say they view the description of a candidate as politically liberal as positive, down four points from last November. Forty-one percent (41%) see it as a negative description, up five points form the earlier survey, while 42% say it’s somewhere in between.

"Aware of their low ideological ratings, political liberals have shifted in recent times to calling themselves progressives, but that name, too, has begun to lose its luster. Thirty-two percent (32%) now consider it a positive to describe a candidate as politically progressive, but that’s down from 40% just after the last election. Twenty-seven percent (27%) see it as negative label, up from 16%. … But 'conservative' also has lost ground. In November, 37% said they had a positive opinion of a candidate described as politically conservative, but only 32% feel that way now. … Even 'moderate' is a bit more in disfavor these days. Thirty-five percent (35%) say moderate is a positive political description, down from 40%."  But "liberal" is the least positive description.  And that is why we need to never stop calling these people liberals.  That's who they are. 

"Being 'like Ronald Reagan' is the one political description that hasn’t changed, even though some in his own party have suggested that Republican candidates should distance themselves from the late president. In November, 43% had a positive opinion of a candidate compared to Reagan, and 41% still feel that way now. Twenty-five percent (25%) view it as a negative political description, compared to 26% in the previous survey. Thirty-one percent (31%) say being like Reagan is somewhere in between a positive and a negative.  In a Wall Street Journal column last fall, Scott Rasmussen noted that President Obama won the White House by campaigning like Ronald Reagan.  The downturn in the views of all other ideological labels is notable since the November findings were roughly the same as those in July 2007 after a Democratic presidential debate in which Hillary Clinton insisted she would rather be called a progressive than a liberal."  Remember, liberals can never be honest with you about who they are and what they want to do.  And that speech to the school kids that Obama gave, what day was that, Tuesday?  The speech that Obama gave to the school kids, that was a Reagan conservative speech and that's why I was so outraged by it because nobody believes he means it.

Most Media Ignores ACORN Story
Another tape exposes Obama's community agitators.

RUSH: "The group ACORN has fired two employees who were seen on hidden-camera video giving tax advice to a man posing as a pimp and a woman who pretended to be a prostitute." Fox News is the only television outlet to run the video.  They started yesterday morning.  Nowhere else in the media.  And I want you to listen to CNN's story on the firing of these two ACORN workers in Baltimore.  "Two employees at the Baltimore, Maryland, branch of the liberal community organizing group ACORN were caught on tape allegedly --" (laughing) I played the audio for you yesterday.  There was nothing alleged about this "-- allegedly offering advice to a pair posing as a pimp and prostitute on setting up a prostitution ring and evading the IRS.  The video footage -- which has been edited and goes to black in some areas -- was recorded and posted online Thursday by James O'Keefe, a conservative activist. He was joined on the video by another conservative, Hannah Giles, who posed as the prostitute in the filmmakers' undercover sting. Calls to ACORN's Baltimore offices were not immediately returned Thursday."

A local spokeswoman told the AP that both employees seen in the video were fired, but I would like to see proof of this.  So this is CNN's take on the ACORN tape.  You gotta give them credit for at least mentioning it out there.  But they use "allegedly" and "alleged."  See, we're not supposed to believe our own lying eyes.  We're not supposed to see our own eyes.  This is just another dirty conservative trick, just another trick out to embarrass poor black people at ACORN.  By the way, "One day after two ACORN officials in Baltimore were fired for offering to help a man and woman posing as a pimp and prostitute to engage in child prostitution and a series of tax crimes, another secretly shot videotape has surfaced." It's on BigGovernment.com website, it's Andrew Breitbart's website, BigGovernment.com. 

"Another secretly shot videotape has surfaced that shows the same couple getting similar advice from ACORN officers in Washington. The newly released videotape, shot on July 25, shows ACORN staffers explaining to the pair how they can hide the woman's professed work -- prostitution -- and get a loan that will help them establish a brothel," a whorehouse. "James O'Keefe, a 25-year-old independent filmmaker, posed as the pimp while visiting the ACORN office, accompanied by 20-year-old Hannah Giles, who posed as the prostitute. On a videotape provided to FOXNews.com, they are seen receiving guidance to establish the woman as the sole proprietor of a bogus company to mask the nature of her business."

Now, I explained the theory behind this, why O'Keefe decided to do it this way.  O'Keefe believes that in taking on the left, it's simply not enough to call attention to them and act outraged and try to get other people outraged.  What you have to do is to get them to act out who they are because they hide who they are.  They hide behind a facade of legitimacy, compassion and all this.  And he sites an Alinsky rule.  He says that Alinsky says, "You win when you make your enemy play by their own rules."  So he took Alinsky and he Alinskyed ACORN in Baltimore and Washington. He walked in there playing a pimp with Ms. Giles playing the prostitute, with a hidden camera, and got them to be who they are.  He just walked in there, said, "Okay, I need some help, I'm a pimp, I got a prostitute, we're going to bring in some underaged girls from El Salvador, and we need to know how to do this and escape taxes," and ACORN, "Here's how you do it."  They knew how to do it, at two different offices. 

Now, this is of no curiosity to the State-Controlled Media.  If anything, they're doing their best to cover it up by ignoring it and they're probably preparing stories on who is O'Keefe and who is Breitbart, and why are they racists?  Why are they bigots?  Why are they out trying to entrap decent people trying to help poor people get housing and so forth?  That's going to be the angle.

RUSH: July 25th, 2009.  This is another videotape shot by the independent filmmaker James O'Keefe posing as a pimp with a woman named Kenya who posed as a prostitute.  This time they are visiting the ACORN office in Washington, and they have this exchange about obtaining housing.

O'KEEFE:  My partner is a -- she's -- she's in a unique line of business, and I don't know if you allow --

ACORN LADY:  Unique line of business.  What are you saying?  If you don't tell us, we can't help you.

O'KEEFE:  My girlfriend is a prostitute.

ACORN LADY:  Okay.

O'KEEFE:  And I don't know if  --

ACORN LADY:  I kind of figured that.

O'KEEFE:  I can be the one, basically put up the house for it, and then she can perform tricks in the house.

RUSH:  So here's ACORN again in Washington helping to further the whole notion of prostitution and evading taxes in Washington, and they talked about the importation of girls from a foreign country, and the ACORN people in Washington gave the same advice that the ACORN people in Baltimore did.  And of course ACORN, "We were set up," and to this day the State-Controlled Media, zip, zero, nada.

RUSH:  Well, this is interesting.  James O'Keefe has apparently been invited to appear on CNN.  James O'Keefe plays the pimp in the ACORN videos in Baltimore and Washington and he was the conceiver of the scheme to expose them for who and what they really are.  He is not going to appear on CNN and he has a piece, it's either posted now or it's going to be posted pretty soon at BigGovernment.com.  The headline of his post is: "'On Why I Don't Return Calls from an Intrepid CNN Producer' -- So far CNN has only reported on the breaking story on blatant ACORN CORRUPTION from angles that attempt to extricate the government-funded 'community organizing'  enterprise from the extreme crime we caught on videotape.  First CNN pushed the false ACORN line that '[t]his film crew tried to pull this sham at other offices and failed.'  To set that record straight please check the Washington DC tape we dropped today at BigGovernment.com --" We played you the sound bites of that "-- which is also being aired on your cable news competitor with curiously higher ratings."  That would be Fox. 

"Now that ACORN lied to you, Jonathan Klein, what are you going to do?" Jon Klein's the president of CNN.  "Here’s what I have noticed from your coverage: You brought in the damage control crowd to FRAME the story. Before even airing our damning Baltimore video. You know your audience would turn on ACORN if you showed them the evidence. So instead you put your competitors in journalism in the crosshairs instead of airing a blockbuster report making massive waves elsewhere.  You even trotted out shameless Clinton era apologist Joe Conason to challenge the ETHICS of our expose. Unreal.  What about the ethics of those at ACORN caught on tape trying to help create a brothel featuring illegal immigrant age range 13-15 from El Salvador?  What about the countless laws broken on tape from a group that stands to get billions from President Obama’s 'stimulus' package?  Why don’t we wait to have the Columbia Journalism School debate on 'journalistic ethics' after you do actual journalism.  When you air the raw ACORN footage that is now viral on the Internet, and being played on FOX NEWS and countless talk radio shows, then and only then -- when America can see, hear and smell the stench we have exposed -- will I subject myself to a CNN hit job," and accept your invitation to be interviewed.  This is how you have to play the game with these people.

RUSH: Politico.com today, they've got a story, and it's an absolutely embarrassing story about the "lack of civility" in the Republican Party these days because of Joe Wilson.  Their point in this story is that the Republican Party is made up of a total bunch of kooks now, just a total bunch of cranks. 

What's Joe Wilson supposed to do?  He's sitting there being lied to.  Every sentence out of the president's mouth is a lie and what's he supposed to do?  We also have learned, from no less than Dana Milbank at the Washington Post, that there were some Democrats sitting on the Republican side of the aisle the night of Obama's address, and they were taunting Republicans.  They were giving Obama the fascist fist salute, one of them was, according to Milbank; and laughing and taunting the Republicans there on their side of the aisle.  So there's a lot going on that hasn't, until now, been reported.  But Roger Pilon who is the Vice President for Legal Affairs at the Cato Institute, has a great response to the silly political story today, and it's this: "On the eighth anniversary of 9/11, the most brutal single attack on the nation in our history, we are debating whether the Republican Party has a civility problem?  This because one Republican congressman said, 'You lie,' when the president spoke about a provision he himself had just removed from the bill Congress had least seen? 

"Have we failed to notice that the president himself had just called the words of prominent politicians 'a lie, plain and simple'?  Have we failed to notice that his entire something-for-nothing scheme simply doesn't add up financially, which makes it one grand lie?  Have we forgotten that Senator Harry Reid said 'President Bush is a liar' and never apologized for it?  Have we forgotten the vicious, unrelenting Democrat attacks on Bush throughout his presidency or on Sarah Palin, extending even to her family and her children?  Or the gratuitous attacks on Republican judicial nominees starting with Robert Bork and running through Sam Alito to a point at which Mrs. Alito had to leave the hearing room in tears?  Have we lost all perspective?  Or is the question before us and this debate just one more example of politics as usual here in Washington?"

And The Politico says: Well, yeah, you got a civility problem on the Republican side!  There are two countries, there may be three.  It's just astounding.  There's no recognition at all of the kook extremism found on the left by people in that media.

RUSH: "Democratic leaders are planning to vote early next week to admonish Republican Rep. Joe Wilson if he does not apologize on the House floor for yelling “You lie!” at President Barack Obama.  Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said party leaders decided at a meeting Thursday that they will likely move forward with a resolution of disapproval against Wilson absent another apology.  Wilson apologized to Obama after the incident on Wednesday, but he has refused requests to apologize to the House. Wilson’s office says the congressman considers his initial apology sufficient. … Democrats say the insult clearly violated House rules of decorum."
 
Now, back on December 5th of 2004, on Meet the Press, during an interview, Harry Reid called George Bush a liar and then stood by the comment.  Tim Russert:  "When the president talked about Yucca Mountain and moving the nation's nuclear waste there you were very, very, very strong in your words, you said President Bush is a liar, he betrayed Nevada, he betrayed the country.  Is that rhetoric appropriate?"  Senator Reid:  Well, I don't know if that rhetoric's appropriate.  That's how I feel and that's how I felt."  From Tim Green, the 2005 Rolling Stone magazine sit-down interview, Rolling Stone:  "You've called Bush a loser."  He did that to a bunch of school kids if you'll recall out in Nevada.  Harry Reid says, "Yeah, I called him a loser and a liar."  "And you apologized for the loser comment."  Harry Reid:  "But I never have for the liar comment, have I?" 

And of course let's not forget the first Joe Wilson.  The first Joe Wilson, Joe Plame, came to fame by saying Bush lied during a State of the Union speech.  Of course he didn't say that right away.  He waited until they didn't find any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq five months or months after the invasion but before that, Joe Plame had insisted that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, and Joe Wilson Plame made a career and a fortune out of calling Bush a liar.  John Kerry even gave him a page on his campaign website, honesty.com.  And now they want to censure the Republican Joe Wilson.  Meanwhile, the media is slowly confirming that Joe Wilson was right.  Obamacare will cover illegal immigrants.  The Democrats have voted two times already to block proof of citizenship from the health care bill.  This despite the fact that 83% of Americans say that proof of citizenship ought to be required to get government health aid.  Now even the State-Controlled Media is being forced to report Obama was dishonest in his address to the nation. 

Fox News: "Among three House committees to pass bills for health reform, only one expressly bans federal funding for proving health coverage to illegal immigrants. 'The Congressional Research Service has indicated that indeed the bills that are before Congress would include illegal aliens,' Wilson said. 'And I think this is wrong.'  Indeed, the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service study found that the House health care bill does not restrict illegal immigrants from receiving health care coverage."  New York Post also fact-checked the president, discovered he was not honest with the American people.  They're going out of their way at the State-Controlled Media to avoid all of this.  The real issue here is not that Joe Wilson called Obama a liar.  The real issue is that Obama was lying.  The real issue is that the president of the United States was lying every time he opened his mouth practically during that speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night.

RUSH: I wonder if President Obama will be forced to apologize on the House floor.  President Obama lied to the country.  President Obama lied to the people of this country for almost an hour on Wednesday night.  Will he be forced to apologize?  These two people that Breitbart used at BigGovernment.com, James O'Keefe and Ms. Giles, do you think they'll win any awards at the Cannes Film Festival or at the Venice Film Festival or whatever the hell film festival is going on now like Michael Moore does for his stupid propaganda lies?

CALLER:  Hey, Rush, I just wanted to say thanks for taking my call.  I wanted to comment on this whole Joe Wilson apology thing.  Last time I checked, Nancy Pelosi isn't his boss.  The people of South Carolina who elected him are his boss.  And I just wanted to say that we're extremely proud of Joe Wilson.

RUSH:  A lot of people are.  I can't wait to see what the fundraising numbers are for people who have been deluging his website since this incident happened.  But, look, we've gone through all this.  Harry Reid never apologized for calling Bush a liar.  Jack Murtha!  Has anybody demanded Jack Murtha apologize for accepting the charge that the Marines at Haditha were cold-blooded murderers?  Has anybody made John Kerry apologize for calling the troops in Iraq terrorizers of women and children in their homes at night?  I can't believe this.  We've got an ongoing debate here about the lack of civility on the Republican Party when we've got eight years of some of the most demeaning, dispiriting, despicable filth that came out of the mouths of Democrats.  I hope he doesn't apologize.  If we're going to apologize for this, if we're going to make him apologize for this, then we're not a serious political movement here.  This is not a time to be caught up in the vagaries of civility and proper etiquette and decorum.  We're up against people who want to destroy the country, America, as it was founded, and replace it with something else.

CALLER:  It happens a lot.  People don't know there's actually a Toledo, Illinois.

RUSH:  Now, our call screener finds the Syracuse, Indianas, the Peoria, Arizonas.  I never heard of these places, and I didn't know that Illinois had a Toledo.

CALLER:  Well, it's about 1,300 people, so I can understand why.

RUSH:  Well, I'm glad you called.

CALLER:  Well, the reason I called is because my family is supported by the pork industry.  Very little right now, because of the situation, and I have to bring up something.  I listen to you daily, on a daily basis.  We just have talk radio here, and I just got here recently in the last six months, and I love the fact that you're on.  You are such a fresh breath of air for this area that we definitely needed considering we get most of our talk radio out of WLS in Chicago.  But where I have to take a little bit of, you know, umbrage with you is on the fact that you're always saying pig flu and swine flu.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  And I know why you say it because that's the way it's propagandized --

RUSH:  No, it's really not.  I know it's N1H1.  I just, as a professional highly trained broadcast specialist, I just like the way "pig flu" sounds.

CALLER:  It does roll off the tongue very well I will admit that but, you know, there are many people -- I really truly believe there's a lot of educated people that listen to your program mostly --

RUSH:  I know and you're worried that they think they're going to get this N1H1 if they eat some bacon or a pork chop.

CALLER:  Exactly.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  When I talked to your screener he's like I know that chicken is up and beef is up as far as sales and pork is down and the pork dollars are down, and it's so funny that whenever it's something bad within our history they always talk about pigs and pork and swine, you know, we talk about the Porkulus package that you talked about and all those things --

RUSH:  Now, wait a second, you're taking it a little too personally, but I grant you, I grant you it could be damaging to refer to the N1H1 as the pig flu.  I will do my best.  A habit has started here so I may slip up a couple more times. I'll do my best to refrain in the future.

RUSH:  I agree that pig flu is probably over the top.  I can get away with swine flu.  I mean, the only people who aren't going to understand that are the people in Rio Linda and Port St. Lucie.  When you say "swine," people in Rio Linda and Port St. Lucie think that you're talking about their spouse, and they could get swine flu from their spouse.  You do have to have personal contact out there.

RUSH: Now, from the dietitians at the op-ed page of the New York Times: "How Government Will Control Our Diet," and this was published yesterday.  Now, I want you to listen to me on this.  "Big Food vs. Big Insurance," New York Times op-ed column here: "To listen to President Obama's speech on Wednesday night, or to just about anyone else in the health care debate, you would think that the biggest problem with health care in America is the system itself -- perverse incentives, inefficiencies, unnecessary tests and procedures, lack of competition, and greed.  No one disputes that the $2.3 trillion we devote to the health care industry is often spent unwisely, but the fact that the United States spends twice as much per person as most European countries on health care can be substantially explained, as a study released last month says, by our being fatter. Even the most efficient health care system that the administration could hope to devise would still confront a rising tide of chronic disease linked to diet.  That's why our success in bringing health care costs under control ultimately depends on whether Washington can summon the political will to take on and reform a second, even more powerful industry: the food industry."  The political will to take on the food industry?  What the hell do they think has been happening?  New York City trans fats, now they're going to have a tax on soda? 

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, three-quarters of health care spending now goes to treat 'preventable chronic diseases.' Not all of these diseases are linked to diet -- there's smoking, for instance -- but many, if not most, of them are.  We're spending $147 billion to treat obesity, $116 billion to treat diabetes, and hundreds of billions more to treat cardiovascular disease." I found a website the other day, I should have printed it out, maybe I can find it in my website history.  Two guys independently of each other, two doctors dealing with diabetes back in 1961 both came to the same conclusion to control type two diabetics, an all-meat diet.  Now, this was before all the warnings about cholesterol and high fat and all of the animal rights people had come along, and they just said all-meat diet, nothing but meat, long before the nation ever heard of Robert Atkins. 

An all-meat diet lowered cholesterol, lowered blood sugar, people lost weight.  You could no more recommend that today and stay credible in your field than anything else you could do, and this is 1961.  There might have been five years separation between these two guys, but they never knew, and they were researching other things.  They were not studying how to lower diabetes, erectile dysfunction, they were studying high blood pressure, and they found out that all the test subjects were having this weird thing happen to them.  It was a total accident.  The same thing with these two guys, were studying something else entirely, and they found that with an all-meat diet, diabetes lowered, blood sugar lowered, weight lowered, cholesterol, all these things.  And so here come these clowns -- this is Michael Pollan, by the way, writing this, basically this piece is, "We gotta control the food industry.  We gotta get Washington to control the food industry."  Yeah, community service.  Picket Big Food, picket Big Retail food, picket grocery stores, pick the slaughter houses, picket manufacturers. 

The American way of eating has become the elephant in the room in the debate over health care. The president has made a few notable allusions to it, and, by planting her vegetable garden on the South Lawn, Michelle Obama has tried to focus our attention on it." Make me gag!  "Just last month, Mr. Obama talked about putting a farmers' market in front of the White House, and building new distribution networks to connect local farmers to public schools so that student lunches might offer more fresh produce and fewer Tater Tots. He's even floated the idea of taxing soda. … To put it more bluntly, the government is putting itself in the uncomfortable position of subsidizing both the costs of treating Type 2 diabetes and the consumption of high-fructose corn syrup.  Why the disconnect? Probably because reforming the food system is politically even more difficult than reforming the health care system."  Now, the people that read the New York Times end up buying the stuff just like these skulls full of mush at these Ivy League schools.   
 
So now Big Food is the reason the health care costs are so high.  Big Food!  And we need Washington to control it.  Reforming the food system?  It goes on and on and on.  Michael Pollan, by the way, is a contributing writer for the Times magazine, a professor of journalism at the University of California Berkeley.  "All of which suggests that passing a health care reform bill, no matter how ambitious, is only the first step in solving our health care crisis. To keep from bankrupting ourselves, we will then have to get to work on improving our health -- which means going to work on the American way of eating." Mr. Pollan, it's none of your business. It's none of Obama's business how anybody eats. It's not my business when he grabs a quick trip to some burger joint.  I don't know what he eats in the White House.  Well, I do know, he's eating $100-a-pound Kobe beef. 

But then there's a companion story here from Newsweek called: "The Real Cause of Obesity. It's not gluttony. It's genetics. Why our moralizing misses the point.  Despite receiving a MacArthur genius award for her work in Alabama 'forging an inspiring model of compassionate and effective medical care in one of the most underserved regions of the United States,' Regina Benjamin's qualifications to be surgeon general have been questioned. Why? She is overweight. 'It tends to undermine her credibility,' Dr. Marcia Angell, former editor of The New England Journal of Medicine, said in an interview with ABC News. 'I do think at a time when a lot of public-health concern is about the national epidemic of obesity, having a surgeon general who is noticeably overweight raises questions in people's minds.'  It is not enough, it seems, that the obese must suffer the medical consequences of their weight, consequences that include diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, and that cause nearly 300,000 deaths in the United States each year."

Do you realize -- this is another thing, what is our goal here?  Have zero deaths a year?  You know, life happens.  Life happens.  People live their lives, they have free will.  They live their lives.  But, no, no, no, we're not going to be doing that anymore, we're going to be living ordered lives.  "In our society perhaps no group is more stigmatized than the obese."  Well, I don't know.  You ought to try being a fat conservative if you want to find out what being stigmatized is, but nevertheless.  "Genetic studies have shown that the particular set of weight-regulating genes that a person has is by far the most important factor in determining how much that person will weigh. The heritability of obesity -- a measure of how much obesity is due to genes versus other factors -- is about the same as the heritability of height. It's even greater than that for many conditions that people accept as having a genetic basis, including heart disease, breast cancer, and schizophrenia. As nutrition has improved over the past 200 years --" Wait a minute.  The New York Times just said it's gone to hell and we need to have Washington to control it.  "-- Americans have gotten much taller on average, but it is still the genes that determine who is tall or short today. The same is true for weight. Although our high-calorie, sedentary lifestyle contributes to the approximately 10-pound average weight gain of Americans compared to the recent past, some people are more severely affected by this lifestyle than others. That's because they have inherited genes that increase their predisposition for accumulating body fat."

Now, this could all be BS, a piece written just to give cover to the obese surgeon general, who knows with this State-Controlled Media these days.  But the bottom line, he concludes, obesity is not a personal choice.  The obese are so primarily as a result of their genes.  Never mind.  We have to have food control.  We have to have Washington control and reform the food industry, agribusiness.  And this is not new.  The left has been trying to get rid of the meat industry for who knows how long. 

By the way, is this the economy Obama says he saved?  "The US poverty rate hit its highest level in 11 years in 2008."  That doesn't even include the last nine months, then.  We got the highest level of poverty in 11 years in 2008 and that doesn't even factor this disastrous administration.  "The government defines poverty as an annual income of $22,025 for a family of four, $17,163 for a family of three and $14,051 for a family of two."  US poverty rate hits 11-year high as recession bites.  CNNmoney.com: "'Word on the Street: No Job Prospects' -- The economic picture has started to improve, but those out of work see no recovery in sight."  Next story, Geithner, town hall meeting on CNBC said unemployment will absolutely be lower one year from today, even though the word on the street from CNN is that there's no way.  There's no sign that the employment picture will improve any time soon.

RUSH:  I just got an e-mail from a friend who's reading Michael Pollan's book. He's the guy who wrote the op-ed in the New York Times that I just shared with you about reforming the food industry, and the name of his book is In Defense of Food.  And my friend who's reading the book tells me that Pollan makes, in the book, a very, very strong case that the reason the food system is so bad is because of government and that there's a food movement out there called "nutritionism," which he says is not about nutrition but is an ideology. And he says that anthropologists have, over hundreds of years, found that an extraordinary range of diets are adaptable to humans: Meat, veggies, rice, lots of grain, no grain. All humans could adapt to these diets but he says in this book only the Western diet causes all the illnesses. Even in other countries our diet has ill effects. And he says that this is all due to processed food and the food is processed mostly due to government intervention and laws.  Now, I don't know. That's a brief summary of what he's saying in the book.  When I read his piece in the New York Times, I did not pick up any of that, but regardless.  Just to be fair.
