You know, I noticed that. Tall people, at least most tall people, have been taught from the day they were able to walk to be careful of people who aren't as tall. We are taught to protect them.
I played Wide Receiver on my Sorority's Powder Puff Football team. The first time a little 5'2” sister of mine laid me out looking up at the sky on a “tackle,” I thought, “All bets are off now, sister. Eat dirt!” The little ones take advantage of our magnanimous nature.

I know it's all about the looks and body. I haven't forgotten what it was like, yet. I was (and am) tall for my generation - 5'10” - 6'2-3” in heels, and I wore them without shame. I never thought about a man's height. If he had two brain cells to rub together and a certain “look about him” which didn't depend on classic good looks, AND he made me laugh — the game was ON, but men were different. It broke my heart when my height intimidated them, because I just don't care.
I remember when I had my group picture taken for my sorority, and I was late, so I had to take a place in the front row. I was short-waisted and long legged, so I wasn't any higher than my “petite” sisters. A guy saw the picture and asked my sister to set up a blind date. I came down the elevator at the dorm and we were to meet at a certain place in the lobby. He walked in, just walked around me in a circle and walked out. He was, God bless him, all of about 5'6” — at the most. To this day, I remember the look on his face, and to this day, I believe he missed a great opportunity, but I got a great laugh.
I don't miss the days at my peak. It was nice to hang up my track shoes and get on with the business of being relevant, but I'd like a do-over at 5'10” and 130 lbs. with my long blonde hair back AND the experience of these 60 years. I could’a been a contender.

"...My girlfriend in high school, who actually did some modeling, was 6'1" and she would literally pound down three sandwiches a day..."Oh golly, please refrain from using in the same sentence:
girlfriend
high school
model
pound down.
Or continue. Whatever.

Prominence in being small...funny!
Hey, my mom is 5’1” as well. We look pretty funny standing side by side.
