Obama Projects $900 Billion To Fix Health Care President backs ‘public option’ but only as limited part of larger plan

Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP Republicans wave copies of their health care bill in objection to President Barack Obama’s proposals Wednesday during a joint session of Congress. At one point, a Republican lawmaker shouted, ‘You lie!’ at Obama.

By Alex Johnson

Declaring that he is determined to be the last president confronted with reshaping health care in America, President Barack Obama proposed a 10-year, $900 billion plan Wednesday night to overhaul a system that he said had left the country at “a breaking point.”

In a prime-time address to a joint session of Congress, Obama laid out the specifics of his proposal to change the way Americans’ medical care is paid for, responding to critics who have complained that he has not set forth precisely what he thinks the new program should be.

Obama outlined what he called the favored proposals of extremes on both sides of the health care debate: a single-payer system like Canada’s, in which the government provides coverage for everyone, and a dismantling of the employer-based system, leaving individuals to buy insurance on their own.

Wasn’t his original estimate somewhere around $675 billion for a “complete” solution?

BHO is the moneywaster, disposing taxpayers money and the money of foreign lenders down the drain. The classic hallmark of socialism / fascism.

30 million without "healthcare" = "crisis"

15 million without jobs! = recovery

I don't get it.

He has no constitutional authority to stick his nose in it in the first place. That is all that needs to be said.

also, what happens in year 11? He says 900B over 10 years. Then what? It’s all free? How much will it cost over 20 years? 50 years? 100? Because once it’s passed it’s here to stay.

Look at every govt program, it always ends up costing way more than expected. When they passed social security they said it’ll only be a few bucks.

Even the Obama administration came out last week and said they misjudged the budget and the deficit is 2 trillion dollars higher than they said it was. Oops. Just a few zeros.

Look at what various govt programs were said to cost when they were first proposed and what they ended up costing. It’s rediculous. Remember when Bush told us the Iraq War would cost around 75 billion dollars and the Iraqi oil would end up paying for it? Things always cost more.

Of course the same thing will happen with this plan. It’ll cost way more, and it won’t be effective, and the answer will be “we need to increase funding to make it better” just like with every other govt program.

Agreed. Look at W Bush’s Free Drugs for Geezers© program. The cost is now way beyond even the worst estimates!

"How about showing us that birth certificate."

It might clear a few things up but don't count on it.

whose price tag he himself put at $900 billion — would actually save money.

There has NEVER been a government program that has ever saved money.

The price tag of $900 billion is less than the down payment for this mess. It will require an untold number of employees, managers, office space and equipment, directors, vice president, presidents, salespeople, transportation, etc.

And we all know who these folks will be- Mainly those who are unemployable in the private sector and who will be protected by civil service unions, and vote for the D’rats just like the folks working for the TSA!

On a similar line, look at how much govt health care in MA has cost.

Just this summer the MA treasurer stated that among other things:

The program has cost 30% more than expected
Already 9B in the hole
Costs have risen 41%

Now, imagine that on a 900B dollar program. Just an extra 300B after a couple years, no big deal.

Obama claims this will all be paid for through cutting out Medicare fraud. I suggest we cut the fraud and waste tomorrow and see how much money we save before we embark on a new entitlement.

What happens to the costs after 10 years? They go shooting thru the roof according to the CBO.

This makes no sense at all.

If they can save $900 billion by cutting the fraud, what is the excuse for allowing it to continue?

I believe “Mack Daddy the Zebra” has painting himself into a corner by telling one lie after another. His statements are becoming even more strange and a lot less believable.

But then again when he open his mouth to speak no truth ever crosses his lips.
