Ben Nelson Crucial 60th Senate Vote Defects on Obama Plan

Democrats in the Senate may have a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority when healthcare reform comes up for a vote, but at least one Democrat is telling party leaders not to count on him to be the 60th vote.
Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska told The Hill newspaper: "I'm not going to commit anything at this point in time on procedural votes, neither pro nor con, because it will depend on the circumstances.

The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson, who felt moved to act when The One told what was, in fact, a lie. Although certainly not his biggest of the night: Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. Youre Mr. Clean, arent you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. Nice work if you can get it.
Im told that his magic number of 47 million uninsured Americans magically dropped to 30 million uninsured in this speech, presumably to omit the illegal immigrants who were inflating the tally. Heres a photo of Wilson at work. Click the image to watch.
Coulter: LIBERAL LIES ABOUT NATIONAL HEALTH CARE: THIRD IN A SERIES

If you like Medicare, you'll love national health care, which will just extend Medicare's benefits to everyone.
Hey -- I have an idea: How about we make everyone in America a multimillionaire by pulling Bernie Madoff out of prison and asking him to invest all our money! Both Medicare and Bernie Madoff's investment portfolio are bankrupt because they operate on a similar financial model known as a "Ponzi scheme." These always seem to run fabulously well -- until the money runs out.
Not only is Medicare bankrupt, but it is extremely limited in whom and what it covers. If Medicare were a private insurer, it would be illegal in many states for failing to cover hearing aids, podiatry, acupuncture, chiropractic care, marriage counseling, aromatherapy and gender reassignment surgery.

Private Citizen Sarah Palin On The Obamacare Legislation Wall Street Journal
Citizen Sarah Palin blasted Barack Obama's nationalized health care plan on the eve of his big Obamacare pitch to Congress. From her Facebook page:
How can we ensure that those who need medical care receive it while also reducing health-care costs? The answers offered by Democrats in Washington all rest on one principle: that increased government involvement can solve the problem. I fundamentally disagree.

September 9, 2009 WASHINGTON With President Obama poised to deliver a nationally televised address to a joint session of Congress on health insurance reform Wednesday night, Senator Max Baucus, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said that his panel would take up sweeping legislation and start voting on it in two weeks, with or without the support of Republicans.
Mr. Baucus said Wednesday that he very much hoped to win support from Republicans with whom he has been negotiating for months. But he said he firmly intended to mark up a bill the week of Sept. 21.
How to Cure Health Care (the unique wisdom of the late Milton Friedman)

...Third-party payment has required the bureaucratization of medical care and, in the process, has changed the character of the relation between physicians (or other caregivers) and patients. A medical transaction is not simply between a caregiver and a patient; it has to be approved as "covered" by a bureaucrat and the appropriate payment authorized. The patientthe recipient of the medical carehas little or no incentive to be concerned about the cost since its somebody elses money. The caregiver has become, in effect, an employee of the insurance company or, in the case of Medicare and Medicaid, of the government. The patient is no longer the one, and the only one, the caregiver has to serve. An inescapable result is that the interest of the patient is often in direct conflict with the interest of the caregivers ultimate employer. That has been manifest in public dissatisfaction with the increasingly impersonal character of medical care.

Sarah Palin has a good op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today where she identifies the major problem with Obamacare; whatever congress comes up with will have to be implemented by thousands of regulations written by unelected bureaucrats:
Now look at one way Mr. Obama wants to eliminate inefficiency and waste: He's asked Congress to create an Independent Medicare Advisory Council-an unelected, largely unaccountable group of experts charged with containing Medicare costs. In an interview with the New York Times in April, the president suggested that such a group, working outside of "normal political channels," should guide decisions regarding that "huge driver of cost . . . the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives . . . ."
How Government Solved the Health Care Crisis

Today, we are constantly being told, the United States faces a health care crisis. Medical costs are too high, and health insurance is out of reach of the poor. The cause of this crisis is never made very clear, but the cure is obvious to nearly everybody: government must step in to solve the problem.
Eighty years ago, Americans were also told that their nation was facing a health care crisis. Then, however, the complaint was that medical costs were too low, and that health insurance was too accessible. But in that era, too, government stepped forward to solve the problem. And boy, did it solve it!

Something big is brewing over at Foxnews. Glenn Beck has been foreshadowing a big story all week. Tonight he really pushed the envelope suggesting that it is so big, we won't be talking about health care reform tomorrow. This is bold. President Obama is addressing a joint session of congress tonight on the issue of health care. For Beck to suggest it won't even be the big topic tomorrow indicates he is sitting on a mighty big story.

Reform: The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee wants levies on insurers to pay for ObamaCare and fines for families who don't sign up. We can cut costs and expand coverage without sacrificing freedom.
________________________________________ To keep ObamaCare alive, Montana Democrat Max Baucus has proposed a Rube Goldberg scheme of fees and fines on insurers and the uninsured designed to forcibly bring everyone into the loving and protective arms of the nanny state.
To help finance his Plan B, Baucus would impose annual fees of $6 billion on health insurers, $4 billion on medical-device makers, $2.3 billion on drug manufacturers and $750 million on clinical laboratories, among other taxes.
How this will cut health care costs we're not sure. These fees and taxes punish medical innovation and those who bring us lifesaving medicines that reduce hospital stays, obviate surgeries and extend lives. And these costs will inevitably be passed on to consumers.
Obama Gets Ripped from Right AND from Left!!! (Sarah Palin and Camille Paglia's ObamaCare Op-Eds)

Two op-eds today that systematically and irrefutably rip the facade off of the Obamessiah's administration are worth reading and savoring, and they come from two ladies of very different philosophical and social persuasions. Both ladies find a not-so-odd coincidence of political opinion regarding the case of Obama's dreams for remaking the face of America and its institutions in His image. While the first lady (not the First Lady, thank you) is the faith- and family-driven Sarah Palin and the second lady is the somewhat Nietzchean alternative lifestyle Camille Paglia, the two of them share a commitment to first principles, and among those principles are individual liberty, personal responsibility, and the safe guards of the Bill of Rights. Things which the Obamaists mock and decry as evil or outmoded concepts in favor of their utopian views of power and technocratic regulation of every aspect of life.
Gov. Palin absolutely destroys Obama's and Pelosi's claims about what their healthcare "reforms" will and won't do. Read it NOW before the Obamessiah gets on the tube tonight and tries to backtrack on the truth... As I've said again and again--yeah abortion IS in there because if it's not specifically prohibited it will be allowed under "reproductive health" which is code for abortion on the feminazi left; and yeah, death panels are in there too, under the rubrics of quality control and efficiency. The Gov. lays out the CBO facts and the common sense approach to the kind of reforms that are needed that would not create billions of new debt, increase corruption, create millions of union dues paying useless jobs, etc.
Camille Paglia's piece is more reflective and expansive in her critique of why the Obamessiah's administration has imploded with San Fran Nan's help... it is brilliant. And furthermore, she goes on to explain EXACTLY why the upper middle-class bourgeois bohemian types, lawyers, academics and media types have become so sycophantic in the Obamessiah's regard. They are basically ignoramuses having suffered from knee-jerk leftist education their whole bloody lives--right through their Ivy League graduate degrees. EXCELLENT critique. MUST READ.
Ah, there is some sanity out there. And if people who are otherwise so far apart on the personal choices that we make with our freedom, it is very encouraging to see that even on the left (albeit the libertarian left) there is an awareness that all of our freedoms are seriously at risk in these days...

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.

When I was a kid, I loved the show Family Ties. In one episode, the Keaton's got involved in an impassioned town debate over the issue of book banning. The episode climaxed with a town hall debate in which citizens spoke their mind. One by one, speakers spoke, and the father, Steven Keaton, kept finding that people were taking his points. By the time it was his turn, all his points had been made. So, Steven stood up and said, "I think now is a good time for a round up of what we heard tonight".
That's how I felt watching this speech. There is nothing new here. The president has made these points over and over and over and over again. Yet, he seemed to think that if he made a prime time address that suddenly people would see things differently. This is absurd. It's ridiculous and frankly it's insulting.

US President Barack Obama has warned Congress that more Americans will die if it does not act now on health care, seizing the spotlight at a pivotal moment for his embattled reform drive.
In a rare joint address to Congress that marked the biggest test of his leadership so far, Mr Obama bluntly warned he would not waste time working with Republicans bent on defeating his plan to damage him politically.
"I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last," Mr Obama said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will tell Congress on Wednesday "the time for bickering is over" and call for quick action on a comprehensive healthcare overhaul that would dramatically transform the U.S. insurance market and health system.
In excerpts of his high-stakes, nationally televised speech to the U.S. Congress scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT), Obama says lawmakers are "closer to the goal of reform than we have ever been" and issued a warning to critics.
"I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it," he said in the excerpts. "If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out."

In his speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday night, Obama said Kennedy's letter was among many he had received from "Americans counting on us to succeed."
The letter was written in May, shortly after Kennedy was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, to be delivered upon his death. Kennedy died Aug. 25.

In his speech to Congress on Wednesday night, President Barack Obama gave a more accurate and less reassuring account of the impact of his proposed health care overall than he has done in the past. It went by in a blink.
He told Americans that nothing he is proposing will force businesses or consumers to change their existing insurance coverage. That much is true.
It's also true that nothing in his plan guarantees that policies people have now will continue to be available in the same form. In earlier accounts, he spoke with unmerited certainty in saying people who are happy with their current insurance can simply keep it.

Why Obama's Speech Doesn't Matter (watch what the other hand is doing)

Everyone is talking about health care today and the president's speech tonight.
I don't even need to watch the speech.
Why? Because here's The One Thing: While everyone else is talking about the health care bill and the games of health care reform, let me sum up the speech this way: It doesn't matter.
Wednesday's health care speech doesn't matter because this administration is going off a blueprint they haven't revealed yet. And while we don't know what their grand plan is, it feels more and more like a plan designed by the Teamsters, the seemingly criminal elements that run ACORN or Hugo Chavez's regime.
And until we know where the people in Washington stand on the Constitution, nothing should pass.

His discussion with Luntz begins at the 5:14 remaining mark of the video. The first minute or so is a Griff Jenkins report with the Tea Party Express in Pennsylvania.
Luntz said he thinks Obama may gain from his using the words "bad people" in connection to Health Insurance Executives.
Luntz said he thinks Obama will regret putting a $900 Billion price tag on the cost of Health Care. Everything the Government has ever done has cost far more than anticipated, and Luntz believes Health Care will be the same way.
ObamaCare: A Trojan Horse for more Forced Unionization
The Wall Street Journal ^ | SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 | MARK MIX

In the heated debates on health-care reform, not enough attention is being paid to the huge financial windfalls ObamaCare will dole out to unionsor to the provisions in the various bills in Congress that will help bring about the forced unionization of the health-care industry.
Tucked away in thousands of pages of complex new rules, regulations and mandates are special privileges and giveaways that could have devastating consequences for the health-care sector and the American economy at large.
The Senate version opens the door to implement forced unionization schemes pursued by former Govs. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois in 2005 and Gray Davis of California in 1999. Both men repaid tremendous political debts to Andy Stern and his Service Employees International Union (SEIU) by reclassifying state-reimbursed in-home health-care (and child-care) contractors as state employeesand forcing them to pay union dues.
Someone please explain what this statement means. It blows my mind and I just can't find the words.
“Someone please explain what this statement means.”

Truman was badly beaten by it.
Kennedy decided it was safer to opt for half a loaf: universal coverage for the elderly, but even he died before making much progress.
LBJ was able to get the half a loaf Kennedy wanted, but only after a landslide victory in 1964 gave him a filibuster-proof Senate.
Nixon tried and failed.
Carter tried and failed.

I, The Great One, will achieve what no one before me has accomplished. When historians look back on my achievement, they will marvel that not only was I the first black man elected president, but I also achieved a victory that has eluded the grasp of some of our greatest presidents in history.
