Assemblyman Mike Duvall resigns after his sex comments are broadcast

KCAL-TV in Los Angeles played a tape of the married Yorba Linda Republican speaking about sex with two women. He apparently did not realize a microphone was on during a legislative hearing.

Assemblyman Mike Duvall (R- Yorba Linda) stepped down after legislative leaders stripped him of his committee posts this morning and launched an ethics probe of his actions.

Reporting from Sacramento - An Orange County lawmaker who inadvertently broadcast explicit remarks about his sexual conquests over an open microphone during a lull in a Sacramento hearing abruptly resigned from office this afternoon.

Assemblyman Mike Duvall (R-Yorba Linda) stepped down after legislative leaders stripped him of his committee posts this morning and launched an ethics probe of his actions.

"I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state," Duvall said in a written statement. "I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work."

Legislative leaders had earlier expressed disgust at the comments of Duvall, who was vice chairman of the Utilities and Commerce Committee and a member of the Rules Committee. And at least one Republican Party official had said the lawmaker should consider resigning.

If he had a D next to his name, the LA Times wouldn’t even report it.

Dollars to donuts that his only “crime” was being caught on tape. He’s probably blabbed about his sexual conquests to Assembly colleagues for quite some time.

True, and he would be in contention for Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat.

Few thoughts.

1) I’d bet most of the politicians urging him to resign or expressing condemnation are not guiltless of actions deserving resignation so they should shut up and take their own advice to resign.

2) He did the right thing by resigning.

3) Please use your free time to go convince the idiot Gov with the Argentinian mistress to do the same.

Republicans do seem to have a zipper problem. Both on their pants and mouths.

The "crime" is that people elected this sleazeball idiot.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Mr Duvall was a reliable voice for family issues. That he couldn’t live up to them himself does not make any difference. If he had driven off a bridge and killed a girl instead, the RATS would have cannonized him.

He also could have also been one fantastic bullsh** artist telling “war stories”.

These stories never are as exciting as you'd like to believe.

My favorite mental image is the "martyrs" arriving in the afterlife and being greeted by the first of their 70 virgins, Teresa of Calcutta.

Just saw that on a quick visit to the California Retailers Association that one of the women implicated,Heidi DeJong Barsuglia, has had her picture taken down on the site although her bio remains.
