President Barack Obamas address to Congress this evening was moving along fairly smoothly until he pledged that there was nothing in the legislation that would provide health care to the millions of illegal immigrants residing in the nation.
A cry of You lie! was audible from the Republican side of the aisle. The Associated Press reports that the heckler was South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson.
Its not true, the president responded to the outburst, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, seated behind the president, offered her mother-of-five glare towards the Republican side of the chamber. First Lady Michelle Obama was seen shaking her head from side to side.
While lawmakers may have become accustomed to that kind of language during the contentious town hall meetings in August, Wilsons outburst was uncommon for a joint session of Congress, where decorum usually reigns.
A spokesman for Wilson did not immediately return a request for comment.

Ok I was all over Joe for apologizing and I wish he had just waited until morning to see the fact that he had been declared a hero of the people before he put out the fire he started, but Oh well, he made me proud for a moment, which is more than most other republicans have made me in their lifetimes.
We need to get Joe Wilson to speak at the Tea Party on Saturday. He is one politician that the Tea Partiers might cheer. He spoke the truth against Obama's lies. That is what the Tea Parties are all about.
I only wish the Republicans in congress had acted like Tea Partiers during the speech and interrupted him and "called him out" on every lie. That would have been historic.
Well I can dream can't I?
Ha! Ha! Naive little grasshopper.
now the report is that contributions have flooded both candidates but that Wilson is actually getting more than his opponent.
anyway, I definitely prefer “civil” discourse overall, but considering how many vile Democrat pols have said so much worse, so many times, about Bush, Cheney, et al in the past 8 yrs, I’m still rolling with hilarity at all pompous, self-righteous Demagogues/Democrats who leap forward to denounce those two words as a great threat to the nation.
I’m glad we don’t have the parliamentary system where there can be quite a bit of heckling, moaning and groaning, etc. but the advantage there is that the opposition does get to ask, publicly, some pointed questions to the party in power that does no happen here when the Demagogues are in power.
I read Drudge several times a day and I can assure you I watch closely for any pro odumbo slanted crap. I don’t see it.
