Media Challenge: Will They Take The Palin Bait? (PDS Alert)
The Atlantic ^ | September 8, 2009 | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 09/09/2009 12:00:45 PM PDT by Lou Budvis

Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice presidential candidate, has every right to submit an opinion piece on health care to the Wall Street Journal's op-ed page, and they've got every right to print it.

But Palin's existence in this debate does not (a) lend her voice any credibility and, beyond that, even if you believe that her experience as a state governor does give her at least a modicum of credibility, it does not follow that, because her voice is credible, it ought to be influential. Newt Gingrich is influential by rights; he's done the work, come up with original ideas, and been in the trenches. (Replacing Medicare with vouchers...not new or remotely plausible, even if GOPers do well in the next two elections. Quoting Ronald Reagan talking about that type of proposal...not new. Etc.)

Uh, Marc, I hate to disappoint you buddy, but the WH did take Palin's bait and chose to answer her by name.

But when it was simply the wife of the sitting president who was not only opining but actually crafting the stuff, no problem with her, no questioning her ability to influence?? Alrighty then.

The more fascinating story that few people are focusing on is what is Charles Boustay, Republican, going to say in his rebuttal to Obama? And will it diametrically conflict with Sarah’s arguments? Stay tuned

Because Charles Boustay is small potatoes, everyone knows when Sarah says something, even the ones who can’t stand her, listen to what she has to say

Sarah has more credibility with me than any community organizer or his radical czars.

Screw Newt, and all the thinkers. I have no time for idea people. Wish in one hand, crap in the other. Sarah is a doer. Get over yourselves. I will no longer suffer your grand experiments, nor your grand ideas. DRILL. DRILL NOW. CUT TAXES. LEAVE OUR HEALTH CARE ALONE. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP SPENDING, AND PRINTING MONEY.

“it does not follow that, because her voice is credible, it ought to be influential.”

The hysterical hatred from the leftist media is what gives her a voice that is influential and credible. Don’t they realize that the MSM’s venomous attacks are precisely what draws many conservatives to a personality?

Is this guy saying Palin does not have a right to her opinion. Unbelievable. She was the VP candidate for Pete's sake and a governor.

Because a govt run health care system is such a new and innovative idea. I wonder how long Obama and his team hadto work to come up with that idea. No one had ever thought of it before. And Cap and Trade is another brilliant innovation by Obama. No one had ever dreamed of such a policy until he so cogently formulated it. And his plan of raising taxes back up to the Clinton levels is another brilliant, new and innovative plan that no one else had ever mentioned. I mean, I know he’s just reverting to a tax policy that was already in place but it’s still a new idea.

Just an observation here but based on photos I’ve seen of Marc Ambinder I’m guessing he wasn’t especially popular with the girls back in high school and college. He’s a bit on the portly and balding side. I’ve noticed that a lot of these male “pundits” who are so opposed to and seemingly obsessed with Sarah tend to have that in common. It’s as if she reminds them of all the popular and pretty girls who they had no chance with while they were home with their friends playing dungeons and dragons. So now they have their chance to exact their revenge.

Sarah has far more conservative influence and creditability than Newt does.

An interesting post on Ambinder by Mickey Kaus at that well known house organ of the right, Slate.com:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/kausfiles/archive/2009/09/09/ambinder-now-spinning-his-own-spin.aspx

Is Ambinder being spun so fast he doesn’t remember what he himself “predicted” a month ago? Or is he ... spinning his own previous spin (to make his more recent spin seem more plausible). ....

IT is more apparent then ever that the Bush “derangement syndrome” has been overtaken by the “Palin derangement syndrome”.

Very few have asked why implement this health care in 2013 if so many people urgently need the help as the Dumbocrats keep repeating?

If what they propose is so good for the nation why wait 3 years to implement?

Is it not because the Dumbocrats do not want to face the electorate after their marvelous solution to Health Care is set in motion? Would be disastrous, yes?

Geez Marc, what are you gonna do when she ignores your advice, stick your fingers in your ears and scream naner, naner, naner, so you won't hear anything else she has to say?

Or maybe throw yourself to the ground, kick your feet, flail your arms, and hold your breath until you pass out, so you won't hear anything else she has to say?

Poor little Marc, such a sad little man.

Marc, here's some advice, stop listening to what she has to say, that's what I'm going to do to you.

When I was in grade school, somewhere about the 5th grade, the teacher told us that one of the ways to tell whether someone's argument was worth listening to was to see if they attack the other person or the other person's ideas. If they attack the person, it's an ad hominem argument and should be discarded. Pay attention to the arguments for against an idea, not the person who proposes the idea. Good advice to live by. From an old nun.
