An Update About Cass Sunstein, CPSC
PointOfLaw.com ^ | 7 Aug 2009 | Carter Wood

Posted on 09/09/2009 7:03:51 AM PDT by edpc

Right before the Senate adjourned for the August recess today, Senate Majority Leader Reid filed for cloture on the nomination of Chicago/Harvard law professor Cass Sunstein to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The motion means a Senate floor debate will take place in September, with confirmation expected.

Senate Republicans have apparently lifted their holds against Sunstein, but several want an opportunity to speak about the nomination on the floor (and about regulatory policy, one hopes). Objections to Sunstein over animals rights and the Second Amendment still turn up in the blogosphere, but in his confirmation hearing and one-on-one meetings Sunstein appears to have satisfied Senators' concerns.

Still, Sunstein was not included in nominees approved today by unanimous consent, i.e., no debate, no formal vote.

However, the Senate did confirm former Anne Northup and Robert Adler to serve on the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Once they are sworn in, the CPSC will be up to its full five-member complement.

Story from early August, with vote to occur this month. Glenn Beck covering it right now on his radio show. Reid attempting to sneak Sunstein through while everyone is distracted by Obama's school and healthcare speeches. Contact your Senators.

My OH Senators are lost causes. I have no hopes of Sherrod Brown doing the right thing. Voinovich has been mailing it in for months, since he’s not running next year.

Casey is so clueless, the DNC has to fax him instructions every morning on how to get to his office on Capitol Hill.

“Senate Republicans have apparently lifted their holds against Sunstein,”

That is BS! They will need 60 votes to confirm that commie!

Glenn is really smacking down Cornyn right now. Sunstein is beyond bizarre? Why in the he## is Obama supporting this nutcase? I mean his beliefs are beyond reality.

Casey’s office is not responsive. I have found ‘attitude’ when I call the Pgh. office. Hate to admit it, but Specter’s people (Pgh office again) have always been respectful and will listen.

Rwi, LOL...I trully think Bobby needs a ‘handler.’ Time to go the Chamber Mr. Senator; time for lunch; straighten your tie, sir.

The gentleman on w/Beck right now (David ?) had great points about how Sunstein can and will make ‘suble’ changes in our every day lives. Beck is right...neither party; no one should have that much power (w/o any answering to a constituency.)

I’ve been told by friends many times that Specter’s staff is surprisingly competent.

Of course. He was elected because he LOOKS like a senator. He just one of many useless Rinos in Texas politics. Unfortunately, conservatives still vote based on name recognition. Thousands of people in Texas are more competent than Cornyn, Perry, KBH, Abbott, our State Supreme Court Justices, and legislators....but we vote for name brands.
