No death panels? You decide.
What’s so asinine about this case besides the obvious, is that how in the WORLD can they tell the baby was “2 days too young”... SERIOUSLY. Unless she knew the EXACT date she conceived it’s all GUESSING based upon last menstrual cycle as to how “old” the baby is!!! He could’ve been 3 days PAST their mark and there would be no way to tell...
I suppose there is no way to file malpractice suits against the doctor, or against the hospital either.
This is heartbreaking.
It found 10 percent of babies born at 22 weeks survived to one year compared with 53% of those born at 23 weeks and 85% of those born at 26 weeks into the pregnancy. The later the birth in pregnancy the more likely the baby survived without any major illness and half of those born at 26 weeks had no serious health issues.
but 21 weeks? Even lower...
The docs should have just given routine treatment and not blamed the "rules".
When I was pregnant with my son about 25 years ago, my friend’s Mom came to visit me. She had been a midwife in her younger days. She told many stories about her experiences. She said that once she was called to come to help a young woman who had gone into labor prematurely. When the baby boy was born, he was so small she held him in the palm of her hand. She said she knew there was no hope. So, she bathed him and wrapped him in a covering and placed him in a shoebox and gave him to the mother. She left for home knowing that baby could not live. She said that about 20 years later, a nice looking young man came to visit her. He introduced himself as the baby that wasn’t supposed to make it.
