WRENTHAM - State Sen. Scott Brown today said he is about 90 percent sure he will run for the late Sen. Edward Kennedys seat, and outlined a campaign strategy designed to play down his GOP credentials.
Browns entrance would make him the second and most well-known Republican in the race.
GOP Canton selectman Robert Barr announced yesterday he will seek the seat. The Democratic field is filling as well. Yesterday's announcement that former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy, the late senators nephew, would not run was expected to draw in additional Democrats.
Brown said he will likely announce Thursday, or Friday at the latest.
The Wrentham Republican said he is lining up fundraising pledges and planning a campaign that shows he is not reflexively tied to either major party, criticizing the Democrats when it makes sense and criticizing my own party Thats what people want. They dont want the strict party stuff.
Brown said he has lined up more than 150 volunteers for a signature drive that demands 10,000 certified signatures by Oct. 20, a daunting task according to veteran organizers. He said he is holding off in part so he can participate unfettered as a member of the Election Laws Committee during Wednesdays hearing on Kennedys proposed interim successor plan.
Im about 90 percent in, said Brown, 49. I cant say Im a candidate because I want to be able to participate in the hearing tomorrow kind of clean.

why effin' bother?
Waiting for Curt...
And Shilling is unenrolled, and cannot run as an "R". If he runs as an independent, it will undoubtedly be a 3-way race and a gift to the dems.
I’m still backing him regardless. Scott can’t win this race, and there’s no GOP apparatus left in MA that could help him win. It’s a dead party.
And I'm likely to be around for a while
I should have specified that I’m taking about the Gay State here.
Brown is a good guy. A regular on Howie Carr’s show. A solid conservative. Active Lt Colonel in Massachusetts National Guard.
He has a shot, albeit slim. Even in Mass, folks have had it with Dems. Brown will try to run against the record spending and taxes of Obama, Deval and the rest of the corrupt hacks.
The latest now is Myhos wanting to switch from gov to senator... Myhos is an opportunist and probably leans towards narcissism.
This is Myhos’s opportunity to mess up the Gov race (which he already has in various ways) to now messing up the Senator race.
ROFL...why even bother to run? I think Mass. is right for a return to old-fashioned conservatism. If I lived in Mass., I would definitely run as an Independent Conservative.
