A new school year in the United States has begun with a touch of controversy. It surrounds a welcome back speech to students from President Barack Obama that was seen in classrooms around the country. In some communities, parents staged a boycott of the president's address - an example of how politically divided the nation has become.
The president's message to students was simple: study hard, pay attention in class and embrace the opportunity to learn.
"We can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents and the best schools in the world. And none of it will make a difference; none of it will matter, unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities," Mr. Obama said.
It was a presidential pep talk delivered at a time of economic uncertainty for many American families. Mr. Obama said he understands the tensions many students face.

“The Speech” may not be all that bad of itself (hey, even Newt Gingrich says it’s worth a listen) but America has gotten so much of this liar pants-on-fire Commander-in-Chief that they are looking for the angle even when he says the sun sets in the west.

I don’t care what he said, why is he talking to our kids at all? I don’t care if it’s a Republican, Democrat, or alien, I don’t want these people given access to our kids.
Did he ask blacks to stop ostracizing blacks for “acting white?”

He could have warned them not to pay attention in church, though. You might end up with the views of a Rev. Jeremiah Wright, especially if it keeps up for 20 years.

No, the speech ended up being not all that bad because of the blowup over the content of the original speech and the accompanying lesson plans. It could have been much worse except for the fact that so many Americans now have his number and won't let him get away with his BS anymore. Pretty amazing for someone who's only been in office for 8 months.

Why work hard when the productive are just going to get ass-raped at tax time anyway? You’d have to be some kind of compulsive fool.
Worse, the bastard will screw those who work hard and redistribute their income to the scum who don’t work for a living or choose to have 15 babies to collect welfare checks. Why in the world work hard when we have the champion Redistributionist in Chief at the helm?
I have to agree. And I’m tired of all these so-called conservatives, (Newt comes to mind) telling me how it seems that Obama is moderate but just keeps company with radicals.
Maybe now he’ll urge lazy welfare leeches to work hard.
