Health Care: The president may embrace a dubious public option "trigger" before Congress on Wednesday. But neither that nor any other gimmick will persuade Americans to take the road to socialized medicine.
In this context, the establishment media are playing up the drama of the president's speech Wednesday night to a joint session of Congress as a make-or-break moment for ObamaCare.
No one doubts that the president knows how to make a great speech, but new rhetorical garb fastened onto what the American people have already rejected is not what is called for. It is, in fact, a little insulting.
About two dozen House Democrats both liberal and moderate have stated publicly that they intend to vote against ObamaCare. As The Hill reports, liberals like Rep. Eric Massa of upstate New York insist on pure single-payer, while centrists like Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas fear impending socialism.
With the public aware that the government-run option could wreck the private health insurance industry by pulling away tens of millions of its customers, the White House has hinted its willingness to drop the idea.
