Back in March, President Obama was so perturbed when a New York Times reporter asked him if he were a socialist that he felt the need to make a follow up call after the interview concluded.

Now the Times needs to call him back.

True, President Obama isn't a socialist, he's a Marxist

There is a difference

Actually, he's closer to a Fascist in that he allows for private ownership of business while under ultimate government control. But I'm sure that's soon to change...

" Perhaps the early years of your life were spent at on the fields of Little League, band camp, the typical activities that many of us participate in as we are growing up."

Obama: "This one time, at band camp, I stuck a flute in my ________ ."

There are many flavours of socialism.

Obama does seem to be heavily influenced by Marx (whether, or not he's actually aware of that fact) — and he certainly has a corporatist (Fascist) side. There are some distinctive features of Obama’s flavour of socialism: the racial overtones, the admixture of Marxism, Fascism, National Socialism (with “race” standing in for nationalism), and plain old populism; and eco-socialism come to mind.

Just as we have “Marxism-Leninism”; Stalinism; Maoism; etc. — it seems to me that Obama’s brand of socialism deserves its own label: “Obamamism”. We'll see if it requires any hyphenated modifiers.

he's closer to a Fascist

Good point.

However, Obama is closer to Socialism because he wants to actually own key segments of the economy and then control the rest with laws and regulatory agencies.

A brief summary of the world's economic systems.

In a Fascist system, the government doesn’t own businesses on paper but it does control them.

Nazism goes one step further and acquires ownership of some corporations and controls the rest as fascism does.

Socialism is where government officials acquire possession of major industries such as transportation, communications, and utilities in order to leverage control over the entire economy.

Communism is the granddaddy of all in the economic sense. The state owns and controls all of the capital, which makes communism more honest than fascism because there are no pretenses about it.

It is proper to note that socialism cannot prevail in the Republican form of government that America's Constitution guarantees. A democracy or rule by the majority must first displace the Republic or rule by law before socialism can take effect.
