Clock Ticking On Bipartisan Health Compromise
Gang of Six meeting today to discuss Baucus' new proposal
WASHINGTON - Prospects for a government insurance plan appeared to be sinking fast Tuesday as lawmakers returned to Capitol Hill a day ahead of a major health care speech by President Barack Obama.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told reporters a Medicare-like plan for middle-class Americans and their families isn't essential for him to back legislation. Hoyer's comments came shortly after a key Democratic moderate said he could no longer back a bill that includes a new government plan.
The fast-moving developments left liberals in a quandary. Progressives have drawn a line, saying they won't vote for legislation if it doesn't include a public plan to compete with private insurance companies and force them to lower costs.
In the Senate, where there's even less support for the idea, hopes for bipartisan agreement hung in the balance. A small group of negotiators on the pivotal Finance Committee prepared to meet in a last-ditch effort to reach consensus on a compromise bill.
A draft of the latest proposal calls for nonprofit co-ops as an alternative to private insurance, but not a government plan.
Hoyer prefaced his comments by saying he supports a public option and considers it "of vital importance." But is it a must-have?

What is the difference between a public option and a government funded coop?... There is none.
Classic rope-a-dope. The rat goals have not changed. It does not matter whether there is a co-op or public option. The goal of this legislation is to vastly expand Medicaid, undermine private insurance, eliminate successful conservative alternatives such as HSAs and high deductible medical policies, and protect rat supporters from onerous aspects of this legislation. Future legislation will impose additional government control until we are left with two levels of health care: single payer for the masses and premium plans for politicians, unions, and other well placed rat supporters.
I have little doubt that the traitorous RINOs not will help to save this for Obama and Pelosi.
Even if it’s only one, the RINOs WILL give Obama a win on this nightmare.
With Obama walking away with a win, no mater how small or compromised, the state run media will help Obama make it appear to be a big win.
mater=matter
What are the boundaries for the co-ops? do they match the weather underground divide the usa plan?
I look forward to it.
