TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 27, 2009 Fire up the barbies, and the flat screen TVs and join comedy legend Jerry Lewis for his 44th annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 6-7.
Im determined to keep fighting for a cure for muscular dystrophy because my kids deserve to live long and healthy lives, said Lewis, MDAs national chairman and Telethon star.

Jerry Lewis told him his hat looked stupid.
Then, Lewis was being given info by his floor manager--and he just looked at her, looked at the audience and said, "It's like working with Eva Braun. She's got a swastika on her ass THIS BIG," as he spread his arms apart.
That telethon is such a scam
Hows that, al?
I put some $$ in a fireman’s boot today at a red light.
All I will donate to them is a spanking.
I was flipping by last night. It’s a good cause. I saw them playing a tape of George Burns and a tape of him winning an Oscar recently. Sometimes you kinda forget about this not thinking that oh yeah its Labor Day weekend.
Good grief. Could we just delete this thread before its eventual contents are posted everywhere purporting to represent “conservative” behavior?
I’ve been in and out all day...it is painful watching Jerry Lewis....granted he’s 83 but still painful...
Years ago, I used to watch it 24/7. One year, Lewis was rude to the audience and kept calling women slang words like old broads. That was the last time I ever watched.
These conditions are inherited, and the different muscular dystrophies follow various inheritance patterns. The best-known type, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern, meaning that the mutated gene that causes the disorder is located on the X chromosome, one of the two sex chromosomes, and is thus considered sex-linked. In males (who have only one X chromosome), one altered copy of the gene in each cell is sufficient to cause the condition. In females (who have two X chromosomes), a mutation must generally be present in both copies of the gene to cause the disorder (relatively rare exceptions, manifesting carriers, do occur due to dosage compensation/X-inactivation). Males are therefore affected by X-linked recessive disorders much more often than females. A characteristic of X-linked inheritance is that fathers cannot pass X-linked traits to their sons.
The big bucks pays for those rich and wealthy researchers and their fat pensions. Very little goes to victims- overpriced camp( payoff), cheap equipment (used), quacky doctors doing check-ups (sorry nothing we can do for you). Wake up America!.
I remeber the old days when no less than 7 national and local networks carried the telethon. Now, just one. Granted I’ve always found JL to be a self important boor who get’s laughs at the deprecation of others but hey, he has contribited one helluva lot.
If “old broads” offends your sensitivities, how in the world have you even lasted a minuscule seven months here on FR?
OK, I’ll take your word for all that. Right.
JL is repulsive and gets paid very well to do what he does for MD.
WTF???
Howdy HG hope your having a good day
i checked in on the telethon twice today for only a few minutes. both times i was rewarded for my curiosity. 1st time a teenage magician was playing with scarves and said “now i say the magic words, that’s just like a man, i can’t say it’s just like a woman because that would be considered derogatory.” his tone was so dryly sarcastic, it was hilarious. a little later he said, “now i say the magic words, affirmative action.” this was accompanied by an eyeroll that was perfect.
second time i looked in i was awed by the Las Vegas Mass choir performance. those folks were fantastic.
