Joseph P. Kennedy II said today he will not make a bid for the senate seat held by his late uncle Edward M. Kennedy, in a bombshell announcement expected to draw candidates-in-waiting out from the wings.
Given all that my uncle accomplished, it was only natural to consider getting back involved in public office, and I appreciate all the calls of support and friendship that have poured in, Kennedy said in a statement posted on the web site of Citizens Energy, of which he is the founder.
My father called politics an honorable profession, and I have profound respect for those who choose to advance the causes of social and economic justice in elective office, Kennedy said. After much consideration, I have decided that the best way for me to contribute to those causes is by continuing my work at Citizens Energy Corporation.

Another good reason to repeal the 17th Amendment, reinstate Article 1, Section 3 AND make serving in Congress a NON PAID job, with no perks at all.
Congress people need to have experience in the real world and have enough money (or a spouse working) to pay their household bills for a couple years while they serve FOR FREE in Congress and then go back to the real world and real jobs.
that would be a dream!
No, then it would preclude such men as Davy Crocket, etc. The average working person (needs to be a sallary, but not as extravagent as is now)!
That is Bobby, Jr., and possibly David, his dead brother.
Joe Kennedy is the really really really really really dumb one.
Thanks for the update Andy’s Mom! How did he screw up his voice like that?
As I've posted numerous times, God willing, Curt runs and wins. If not, then US Rep Steve Lynch-D looks to be the least bad of the Rat field. The second bird to hit with the proverbial stone is to keep US Rep Mike Capuano-D out of the general election. His CD is the one JFK and Joe Kennedy used to represent and Joe Kennedy would like his son, named, you guessed it Joe KennedyLXXIII to run for.
So the chance to get a conservative/moderate in Curt Schilling (should he run) exists. The chance to kill the Kennedy bullsh*t ‘dynasty’ exists. It's up to the voters to do so.
Not sure about the smack. He’s another NASCAR driver though: He paralyzed a woman in a car crash back in 1973.
(the NASCAR line is sarcastic)
I see what you’re saying, but I would never insult the Bushes by lumping them in with the Bootleggers, err Kennedys.
All this bullshit about the Kennedy ‘dynasty’. The Bushes are the real dynasty; not even close.
I remember one year when I was still living in DC that The Washingtonian printed it’s yearly poll of the best and worse of the Congress....Joe K always was voted the dumbest congresscritter.....I was in one of my drinking holes in Old Town Alexandria one Saturday afternoon and he was in there with a priest and they were both stinking drunk....when they stumbled out I ask our waiter if that was him and he said “yep, and those two have been in here drinking all day - they are wasted” (which of course was pretty obvious!)
That’s AWESOME!!!
how do u REALLY feel?
Damn right it was rape!!!
Thank you very much for posting this!!!
I think what we are all missing is the “idea” that this Senate seat belongs to the Kennedy clan. Dead Ted has not bequeathed the seat to his extended family. Let’s move on.
Thank-you God!
One less Kennedy!
That is about to change, thankfully.
Plus with the reality that Americans right now are very ticked right now, with the tea parties and festy town halls as an indication of the worked up American people, Joe did the right thing.
No loss for the people of Massachusetts.
Well we still have to worry about Miss Vicki...
