“You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free.”

This is what concerns me the most...our kids’ history and social studies textbooks are distorted and paint America as a country that has much to be ashamed of...

He wants us to “make our nation more FAIR...and more FREE?”

And Socialism is the way to do that??? I think NOT!!

Soooo glad Virginia is NOT airing this video to our children!!

Really? I emailed the Chrman of our county school board and the creep said, “We will follow the VA state guidelines, blah, blah, blah...”. Of course he didn’t have the courtesy to quote them - the jacka**...

"I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part too.

So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us down – don’t let your family or your country or yourself down."

The first part makes it sound like schools have been underfunded. What a joke.

The second part is so egocentric that I can't stand it. Why on Earth should kids give a flying toot about what the Prez wants them to do.

Note that it's about enhancing the collective. Help the country. Help nameless people. The only named person is the President himself.

Personally, I think most people need to be motivated by self interest. The message should be:
This is one of the few countries where anyone, from any family, from any race, from any religion, can become enormously successful and wealthy. Strive to be your best and not have regrets. In the process of being an individual success, you will undoubtedly touch other people. Give to charity. Donate your time. Create jobs. Be an American. Innovate. Lead. But, it all starts with education.
