WASHINGTON -- Rep. Anthony Weiner, normally a supporter of President Obama, yesterday criticized his failure to display "presidential leadership" on health care.
"We've been in a scrap through the month of August, but we really haven't had presidential leadership in the way we need it most," Weiner said Thursday night on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show."
He said the president's health-reform address to Congress on Wednesday needs to make a strong case for including a public option to compete with private insurers.
Obama supports the idea, but has been backing away from it amid fierce resistance from Republicans and conservative Democrats.

Punks aren’t leaders.
What’s particularly interesting is the disconnect between how the media had been presenting 0bama and his popularity and the reality that emerged once the American people had their chance to speak up.
My list says he voted for Cap & Trade (HR 2454) and the FDA Food Supply Control Bill (HR 2749)
He is rated as a rank & file Democrat. He followed Chuckie Schumer in this office. Been in House since 1999.
In the meantime, he's otherwise too busy enjoying the trapping of his office.
Obamarama and his brood were too busy enjoying the perks of being President.
Hey Berry, How's that golf thing going?
That’s been my impression of him also!
This rat-faced Weiner is engaged to Hillary’s “girlfriend” Huma!!!
my part of Brooklyn. total lib union supporter what have you.
ObamaCare isn’t going to get passed and the ‘rats in Congress are going to blame Obama. That’s what I took from this article.
Welcome to the big league, Barry.
oh thats right ..i had forgotten about that !
Obamalamadingdong also uses this method to let others take the heat for his screw ups. It's happened over and over and some of the Dims are just now getting a clue that they are next to be tossed under the bus......
Weiner, not Kosher, taking directions from hill/bill on healthcare. Yep.
That’s why he was picked -all the libs around him chose him as a stand in - all he has to do is stand there and “look the part” while they implement their ideas. They let him take all those vacations since he’s not really necessary for actual business.
He [Weiner] said the president's health-reform address to Congress on Wednesday needs to make a strong case for including a public option to compete with private insurers.Instead, Weiner was criticizing Obama himself for not being there for the RATS. He may have earned himself a Fort Marcy Park night admission ticket for hammering Obama, but he certainly wasn't ripping into ObamaCare.
The Economist has had a Road to Damascus moment just two months after their candidate took office (via QandO):
"His performance has been weaker than those who endorsed his candidacy, including this newspaper, had hoped. Many of his strongest supportersliberal columnists, prominent donors, Democratic Party stalwartshave started to question him. As for those not so beholden, polls show that independent voters again prefer Republicans to Democrats, a startling reversal of fortune in just a few weeks. Mr Obamas once-celestial approval ratings are about where George Bushs were at this stage in his awful presidency. Despite his resounding electoral victory, his solid majorities in both chambers of Congress and the obvious goodwill of the bulk of the electorate, Mr Obama has seemed curiously feeble."
Why curiously? After all, Obama had next to no executive experience before running for the presidency. His only executive experience came at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, where Obama spent over $160 million and had no effect on education. He has never been responsible for a public budget, public appointments, or economic policy. And they find his poor performance curious? Would The Economist have hired Obama to run their magazine based on his resumé and then found his incompetence curious?
