OAKLAND — It was bad enough that their car crashed into a police motorcycle officer early today.

It got worse for some of the occupants when a man walked up and told police they had just beaten him and robbed him of his cell phone, investigators said.

Four of the occupants were arrested: two in the robbery; one on suspicion of being an accessory to the robbery, driving under the influence and illegal gun possession; and the fourth on suspicion of illegal gun possession.

It all started about 12:45 a.m. when a 26-year-old Richmond man left an Old Oakland club and went to a nearby parking lot in the 900 block of Washington Street to get cigarettes from his car.

Sgt. Robert Muniz and Officer Bruce Worden said the man was confronted by Terrell Wright, 20, of Oakland, who punched him in the face without warning, knocked him to the pavement and demanded his cell phone.

Another man, Lamar Johnson, 19, of Oakland, came up and began stomping on the Richmond man as he lay on the ground, Muniz and Worden said. Wright also hit the man some more, police said.

The victim was able to flee and saw his attackers get into a white Oldsmobile and drive off. Worden said the men had taken the victim's cell phone but dropped it in the lot before fleeing in the car.

Before the victim could call police, he heard sirens coming from nearby Eighth Street and Broadway and went to investigate.

He saw that the Oldsmobile had crashed into Oakland police motorcycle Officer Jason Scott, who was not injured. The Richmond man told officers what had happened and identified Wright and Johnson as the men who had attacked him, Muniz said.

"Trasha Robinson, 27, of Oakland, who was a front-seat passenger, was also booked on suspicion of illegal firearm possession, police said."

Old Oakland is a nice shopping area of renovated old office buildings on Broadway. I'm sorry to hear about crime in this area, but it's great that the perps "ran into" a cop.

Just a routine Saturday night in Oakland, CA.

Do everything you can do to make sure your city doesn't become another Oakland.
You know Oakland wasn't always such a violent place.

“Just a routine Saturday night in Oakland, CA.”

Just another dog bites man story. Nothing new except that Van Johnson is coming back home.
