Virginia Governor Election: McDonnell 51% Deeds 42%

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Virginia voters finds McDonnell leading Deeds 51% to 42%. That’s little changed from a month ago when McDonnell held the advantage 49% to 41%. All of those figures include “leaners.” Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but answer a follow-up question and say they are leaning towards a particular candidate.

The survey was conducted shortly after news stories broke about a thesis paper written by McDonnell in 1989. The thesis reflected very conservative views on the role of women in society and other topics. To this point, just 49% of Likely Voters say they’ve followed news stories on this topic even somewhat closely. Twenty-four percent (24%) say they’ve followed the stories Very Closely.

Thirty-six percent (36%) say the writings are at least somewhat important in terms of how they will vote. Forty-nine percent (49%) say they’re not important. Nearly half of all Democrats consider the thesis important while two-thirds of Republicans say they are not. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 32% say the writings are important including 18% who say they are Very Important.

It is possible that the thesis itself or the views expressed in the document could become a bigger factor in the campaign this fall.

Earlier in the campaign, Rasmussen Reports released polling data on the Virginia Governor’s race without leaners. Early in any campaign, it is more relevant to focus on those who are more firmly committed to a candidate. However, from this point forward, in both Virginia and New Jersey, we will report the number with leaners as the primary indicator of the campaign. Premium Members can review the data without leaners and also see complete demographic crosstabs.

What's really important is that McDonnell likes girls, and there's not yet any evidence that Deeds does ~ at least not enough to write anything about it.

So, what about it Deeds, do you like girls?

Wonder what the Washington Post will try and smear McConnell with next?

BTW, Washington Compost, where’s Obama’s college thesis? Why did you not consider it important during the 2008 election. How many stories did you do on Michelle’s controversial college these?

I think the WaPo articles will end up helping McDonnell. People are weary of living in a culture awash in filth. McDonnell's ideals may be unrealistic, but at least they're high.

It seems to me that the 'Pubs have a HUGE "enthusiasm" lead in this race:

Yesterday while driving in a Fairfax County residential neighborhood -- inside the Beltway, of all places -- I saw at least a dozen McDonnell yard signs, and only one Deeds sign.

Now IIRC, the same neighborhood last year probably had five 0bama yard signs for every McCain sign.

So a rhetorical question:

What does that tell us about likely turnout in November?

Oh they will find something. I do worry about McDonnell because his team appears content to try to run out the clock. It seems to be working but it leaves room for the challenger to keep up this crap till election day. He should be building on the palpable anger of the electorate and tapping into it. Virginians have soured on Obama and his liberal policies. Granted I’ve not been as involved in the McDonnell campaign as I had been in others in the past but I always favor building on momentum then just waiting to win. I did get a call for a donation yesterday and I’m giving my first donation to them.

The liberal media has neutered itself and they don’t even realize that the game has changed. That this thesis crap isn’t working is a good sign that things have changed for the moment.

“McDonnell leading Deeds 51% to 42%. That’s little changed from a month ago when McDonnell held the advantage 49% to 41%.”

except that he improved when the thesis was ‘supposed’ to hurt him.

I don’t know what Deeds likes. He really just seems what can I say ummm just dull. He doesn’t stand out. McDonnell even though he has tempered in recent years has always stood for something. Deeds is a weather vane and not in any way a leader and it is showing. It is going to be hard to change the minds of Virginia voters on this race. The numbers are too stable and the Obama factor isn’t helping Deeds at all. He just isn’t the kind of guy that will get out the vote. He is the kind of guy that seems destined to lose.

I agree. You know we live in a world where the signs are clear. Liberalism in all its forms social and fiscal have failed. Soft liberalism under the guise of “compassionate conservatism” has failed. We have millions of sons of single mothers in prison which are directly connected to the the growth of sexual permissiveness. The minority communities have been hit the hardest but growing segments of poor white communities are falling into the abyss of sexual permissiveness combined with illegal drugs and abuse of prescription drugs. People want to talk about the cost of smoking and obesity but the costs of a permissive society far out weigh the costs of tobacco use and being fat(not that I think it is good).

It is a travesty that huge numbers of professional women and men are not getting married and not having families. So many in our current culture are not completing the natural life cycle of all fit organisms. They are not growing up. They are not maturing but instead doubling down on selfish narcissistic gratification and what does it get them? They end up old, with greater levels of mental disorder, usually some form of drug abuse, with a destiny often ending in suicide and early death.

We live in a culture in denial. A large part of it is because a media driving and crafted by the most immature and irresponsible among us. It appears that grip is weakening. People have lost trust in the liberal oracles of the media and the the Washington DC bureaucrats. The adults are standing up. The good are saying NO MORE and I am so proud of my countrymen and women.

I guess its because he didn’t say “macacca” like that horrible George Allen did. LOL

Just shows - when you’re up, you’re up and when you’re down, you’re down. The dems are down right now and I hope they stay that way.

If this backfires on the WaPo, they can take credit for making “Dirty” Deeds done and dirt cheap.
