McCain raps Dems' health-care pitches [but may vote for them anyways] [wants to be bipartisan]

The Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, Ariz. ^ | 2009-09-05 | Phil Villarreal

Sen. John McCain blasted Democrats' plans for a health-care overhaul Friday in Oro Valley at the annual conference of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

In a generally jovial mood at the Hilton El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort, before an adoring crowd that gave him two standing ovations, he joked: "Every place I go, everybody says, 'I voted for ya,' 'I voted for ya.' I'm about to demand a recount."

. . . . . On whether he would vote for health-care reform if the public option were removed:

"It would have to depend on the legislation. There are many other provisions that I object to in the bill that was through the Health Committee, including the fact that federal funding for abortion is apparently allowed under that plan. I obviously wouldn't agree with that. Really what we need to do is sit down and start over, moving forward, probably, in an incremental fashion, and do the things that we can agree on. By the way, there would have to be some medical malpractice reform. There's none in either bill that's gone through the Senate or the House now, which is a testament to the influence of the trial lawyers."

ObamaCare: Establishing God's Kingdom on Earth

An interesting reason for the "natural born" provision of the U.S. Constitution is that the founders thought it might be important for the sitting president to understand and defend the basic principles of American freedom. The universal health care push illustrates the far left's ignorance of our constitutional system better than anything imaginable. The President and every one of the ultra lefties in Congress may as well have been born in the former Soviet Union and dandled on the knee of Joseph Stalin. Their poison Ivy League educations have so indoctrinated their minds that, not only do they sing from the same sheet, but they fail to appreciate the harm they wish to inflict upon the country.

That opening paragraph might be a little hard, but when Barack Obama starts using the "God card," in his emotive sales pitch for "health care reform," the "debate" approaches a no-holds-barred level. The tactics are especially offensive coming from a man with 20 years of training from the best in how to comingle God and social justice doctrine.

Whose Business in Health Care?

Our ongoing debate about government's role in health care is proving worthwhile because it forces people to focus on the real tradeoffs in a system mandated - if not directly operated - by government, rather than one selected by individuals or their employers. Today, our system is a dysfunctional hybrid.

To the extent that we cannot choose the health care coverage we want today, those restrictions are almost always the result of previous government interventions - tax incentives that make it easier for employers to buy insurance than for employees to purchase their own or laws requiring us to purchase coverage we may not need or cannot afford.

Healthcare Mumbo-jumbo

One of the biggest tools the President and congressional Democrats are using in the health care debate is the fact that the bill -- H.R. 3200 -- is written in such loose language that they can claim critics are lying about its terms, when all the critics are doing is reading the bill’s provisions as the bill allows them to. For example, when they say abortion funding isn’t in the bill, that’s right. But because the bill doesn’t prohibit federal funding of abortion -- given the interpretation that courts and bureaucrats have made of earlier laws -- it’s perfectly correct to say that Obamacare will enable, by its government-funded insurance, provide for federally-funded abortions.

The same goes for their argument that health care rationing is not in the bill. Or even paying for insurance and health care for illegal immigrants is not included in the bill.

Baucus to GOP: Time is running out on health (America to GOP, Just say NO!)

Signaling it's time for action, the Senate's chief negotiator on a health care bill told his colleagues he won't wait much longer for a Republican compromise.

"I am committed to getting health care reform done — done soon and done right," Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, said in a statement. He is considering making a formal proposal soon to the small group of Senate negotiators who call themselves the "Bipartisan Six."

Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, held a nearly two-hour teleconference on Friday with the other five negotiators from his committee. The group has been struggling for months to come up with an acceptable bipartisan bill.

No Excuse for Health “Care” Reform

Critics say that there is often a hidden agenda behind political reform; no more so when it involves the federal government intruding in areas that the Constitution reserves to the states and to the people. The excuse given for federalizing health insurance is as fake as Al Gore's global warming scare.

As Karl Rove points out in a Wall Street Journal article (”Obama and the Perfect Political Storm ”, Sept. 3):

Nearly nine out of 10 Americans say they have coverage—and large majorities of them are happy with it. Of the 46 million uninsured, 9.7 million are not U.S. citizens; 17.6 million have annual incomes of more than $50,000; and 14 million already qualify for Medicaid or other programs. That leaves less than five million people truly uncovered out of a population of 307 million.

Democrats say GOP wants to kill Medicare [I want to kill Medicare]

Republicans have their senior's bill of rights, trying to win the elderly to their side in the health care debate.

Democrats retaliated this evening with a new TV ad that accuses the GOP of wanting to kill Medicare, the main government health program for seniors.

The Democratic National Committee cited a vote earlier this year in the House in which 137 Republicans voted for a budget proposal offered by the Republican leadership that the DNC says would have ended Medicare for Americans under age 55. Instead, the proposal called for younger workers to enroll in private plans and receive subsidies equal to the average Medicare benefit.

"Republicans want to end Medicare," the announcer says in the spot. "You heard right, Republicans actually voted to abolish Medicare for future generations -- one of the most important programs for seniors."

A new ad from the Democrat National Committee featuring Republicans Paul Ryan and John Boehner claims “Republicans voted to abolish Medicare”.

The ad will air on cable and in Washington, D.C., backed by a “healthy” six-figure ad buy.

'Public Option' As Unhealthy As Medicare[Last year Mayo Clinic Lost $840 million In Medicare Work]

The only way a "public plan" can achieve its stated goals is to pay doctors and hospitals less than what private health plans pay for the same services.

Doctors and hospitals in Alaska already lose money on Medicare, and make up for their losses on current government programs by charging everyone with private health care coverage more for the same services.

Sen. Mark Warner: ‘No Place In Constitution That Says Health Care’

Fredericksburg, Va. (CNSNews.com) – During a town hall meeting at the Fredericksburg Expo Center, Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) said there is “no place in the Constitution” that mentions health care or education, or even gives individuals the right to own a telephone.

“[L]isten, there is, there is no place in the Constitution that specifically says health care,” Warner said to a government high school teacher at the event, who asked him if the Constitution explicitly gives the government the right to run the health care system.

“There’s no place in the Constitution that specifically says education,” said Warner.

An opponent of government healthcare programs had part of a finger bit off during a fight at a pro-healthcare-reform rally this week in Thousand Oaks.

William Rice, 65, of Newbury Park was with a small group of counter-protesters at a vigil Wednesday night organized by Moveon.org when a man bit off part of his left pinky finger during a scuffle, authorities said. Doctors were unable to reattach Rice’s finger.

Obama Hypocrisy on "Competition"

This summer's health care debate has centered around the creation of a government-run insurance program to compete with those offered by private insurers. President Barack Obama says "public option" isn't intended to end private health insurance, repeatedly telling us that if we like our private plans, we'll be able to keep them. A government plan, he and congressional Democrats insist, will simply provide needed competition for private insurers. And this will be a good thing, of course, because competition leads to better service, lower costs, and more consumer choice.

Here is a CNN video report saying the White House is considering drafting its own Health Care Bill which could be released following President Obama's speech Wednesday to a Joint Session of Congress.

Sources indicate if the White House issues its own bill, it would "not include a Public Option," but would include a provision to allow "public insurance under certain circumstances."

THE CLASS ENVY CZAR, BARACK OBAMA

Not since the 1930's and FDR have the politics of class envy, class warfare, resentment, and covetousness been used with such effectiveness than during the current health care debate. Barack Obama, the czar of many czars, is the self-appointed Class Envy Czar.

It's the same Democrat party which preaches that, "you can't legislate morality," that is now describing passing health care reform as even being a "moral obligation." The same party that sermonizes the principle of "separation of church and state," now desperately invokes the Bible to try to hustle their socialized medicine message.

Goldwater Jr.: Obama Policies 'Scare the Hell Out of Me'

By: David A. Patten

Former California Rep. Barry Goldwater Jr. says President Barack Obama's big-government reforms are "potentially jeopardizing future generations," admitting to Newsmax.TV that "It scares the hell out of me.”

Goldwater, the son of Republican icon Barry Goldwater, warns in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview that Obama's plans for a government-run health insurance scheme overlook one a crucial fact: There's no historical evidence the federal government can effectively operate such a massive government program.

Goldwater, who worked as a stockbroker and business executive before he won his first congressional campaign in 1969, believes the insurance business is best left to the private sector. But he adds that citizens are right to "insist that insurance companies do a better job of meeting their responsibilities."

Obama health care plan projected to cost 5.2 million jobs

In an interview on Fox News on August 27th Mark Wilson of Applied Economic Strategies made the economic case against the current plan for health care reform. He said the current idea for mandating employers to insure employees or pay a fine in the form of a tax would cost employers $49 billion dollars and cause the loss of 5.2 million jobs. In addition wages would be “stunted” for another 10.2 million wage earners.

Baucus Ready to Move on Health Care Reform Bill

Roll Call ^ | Sept. 5, 2009 | Emily Pierce

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) has decided that Tuesday is the make-or-break day for bipartisan health care reform talks that have slowed the debate in the Senate to a crawl for most of the summer.

The “gang of six” negotiators are expected to meet when Congress returns from the monthlong August recess Tuesday, and sources said Baucus will use that opportunity to push Republicans to sign onto the outlines of the bill that they have been discussing for months. If, as Democrats expect, ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) balk at agreeing to a bill, Baucus plans to try to continue pursuing a bipartisan agreement with the third Republican in the group – Sen. Olympia Snowe (Maine) – Democratic sources said.

“He’s meeting with the gang one more time. If it’s where it was in July, they’re going to move ahead with Snowe,” one knowledgeable source said.
