Alarmed by Israeli plans to build new housing units in settlements and dimming prospects for American peace efforts, the Obama administration on Friday put out a rare and harsh public rebuke of its main Mideast ally.

The White House said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's settlement plans were "inconsistent" with commitments the Jewish state has made previously and harmful to U.S. attempts to lay the groundwork for a resumption in peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

"United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued settlement expansion and we urge that it stop," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement. "We are working to create a climate in which negotiations can take place, and such actions make it harder to create such a climate."

What are the odds of a Muslim President going after Israel? I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

What a pantload of crap. Most of this is natural growth in what in reality are suburbs of Jerusalem. Of course, Dimocrats hate American suburbs almost as much as they hate Israeli ones.

United States does not accept

Hey, Gabby Gibbs - it's you libs that doesn't accept but Americans do. I read this yesterday and blessed Bibi for taking care of his country so, Gabby, you don't speak for me! I was most impressed because he told the WH and didn't ask - what a guy!

“The official added that the White House statement was released before a formal Israeli announcement of Netanyahu’s plans because “we wanted to send a strong signal early on.”

Diplomatic etiquette is not something that your average Chicago Socialist Thug understands.

Netanyahu should announce plans to build more settlements as a response to the unseemly slip in diplomatic protocol.

Far as I can tell it's their land and they can do what they want with it. If they want to build settlements then more power to them.

Not knowing the details of the pressure being applied, I wouldn't second-guess Netanyahu. I pray for his strength. The baby boom generation of Chicago, Florida, and New York Jews who immigrated to Israel with their Utopian leftism is passing on. It is the young families, many of them from Eastern Block countries (such as Orly Taitz’ family) who are providing both economic growth and positive population growth to Israel, as well as many of the most brilliant engineers and scientists in the world. Limiting settlement expansion is most likely a strategic attempt to stifle that positive population growth - the contrary direction to all Western European countries (read Mark Steyn’s ‘America Alone’).

With 4% approval for Obama in Israel I'm hoping they are finding alternative military partners to the U.S. When France responded to Arab pressure and wouldn't supply Mirage fighters Israelis should have begun to develop their own airplanes. As it is they contributed enormously to the weapons systems of our F16.

Now Obama has denied Israel access to the F22, is threatening the supply of maintenance parts for F16s, and even refuses to share live launch data from U.S. acquisition radar systems in Israel, data which could mean the difference between 90% and 20% survival rates in an attack. There have been hints that the U.S. would shoot down Israeli fighters headed to Iran, and would deny in-flight refueling necessary to the removal of Iran's nuclear weapons development facilities.

Obama has also canceled missile defense for Poland and Czekoslovakia, who are well withing the range of the most recently tested solid fuel weapons. I think some of us know whose side our president is on. I know the Israeli's do. Too bad our courts and military ignore our constitutional requirement for a president, both of whose parents must be citizens! We are likely to relearn the wisdom of John Jay, Hamilton, Washington, Story...

I'm hoping Israel's relationship with India is proceeding well. There are even hints that there is quiet Sunni support for Israel, given the clear threat to the Saudis by the maniacs in Iran, not to mention the threat from whom ever remains of the bin Laden crew. Most of Obama’s Berkeley, Harvard and Columbia radicals haven't a clue about the rules of the game they have found themselves in. Khalidi does, but I notice that he is being quiet now that the stakes are high. I don't think he really wants the results of the pitch he has sold, and which has provided him an extremely comfortable living over the last few decades.

Muslim countries are crippled by Jihad, not human potential. Dubai is well aware of its lack of options as oil income is insufficient to support growing populations of often Western-educated Arab technologists. Dubai is spending lots of money to buy technology and build silicon valleys in The Gulf. They are thwarted by Islam and know it. They promise “Sharia-free zones” to engineers and scientists who will live for a few years in Dubai. They offer companies tax-free licenses, no business and no export tax. That is a start. Israeli Arabs refuse to give up their freedoms to move to “The Territories” to moderate the extemists, some educated Arabs might suppress the Jihadi dictates of the Koran to live productive lives, as Persian Muslims might have done had not Jimmy Carter ruined a blossoming democracy.

Israel needs other partners unencumbered by religious zealotry. America is, unfortunately not such a partner. If our president isn't a Muslim (he is by Islamic law), he has a religious commitment to human-caused global warming - a religion. He has a lifelong commitment to Marxism - a religion. He is a preacher. But also, Obama is a skilled hustler, selling whatever cause is currently paying for his services. Israel will only lose negotiating with a hustler who is playing on our, U.S. citizen's, bankroll. Since Obama doesn't have the allegiance required by our Constitution, he has nothing to lose by selling us out.
