STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- A total stranger is accused of slapping a fussy 2-year-old in a Wal-Mart in Stone Mountain.
Authorities say the girl and her mother were shopping at Wal-Mart on Tuesday morning when the toddler began to cry.
Roger Stephens, 61, approached the mother and told her, "If you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you."
Moments later, Stephens grabbed the 2-year-old girl and slapped her at least four times and told the mother, "See, I told you I would shut her up."
The child began screaming and Stephens walked away.
Another shopper stopped Stephens until store security arrived.
Police say an examination showed the girl sustained slight redness to the face.
Stephens was jailed without bond on several charges including felony cruelty to children.

If that were my child there would have been no need to call the cops......

Dad is probably lucky too. Stephens’ new ‘roommates’ will probably beat him up a lot worse than Dad would have...and get away with it.
If that were my kid, I would have dragged his ass outside and beat him within an inch of his life.

You would think the charge would be assault and battery.
that said, had this guy slapped my kid, they'd still be scraping him off the Walmart floor.

Other reports say the mother was trying to calm the child and moved to a different aisle as well.

I know what would happen...
A few years ago, I was on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Memphis.
Some little kids were turning around in their seats and looking at the people behind, and maybe making faces.
Well, a Middle Eastern looking guy, just a few seats behind me, had a piece of white cardboard that he has written, “BOOM BOOM” and was holding it up for the kids to see... Not a good idea.
When the plane landed, everyone was told to stay seated..
US Marshals would be boarding...(4 or 5 of them). You can imagine the result.
Anyway, Mt Boom Boom and 4 of his friends missed their connecting flight.
Ditto!
If I had been there they would have had to call the coroner

Never understood the logic that slapping would STOP the crying.
Never is there a need or a reason to slap a two year old. Never.
