House Speaker Nancy Pelosi miscalculated by not forcing a House vote on health care reform prior to the summer recess, former House Speaker Dennis Hastert said today.

"The speaker probably made a strategic mistake by not jamming a (health care) bill through before they went home for break," said Hastert, in town to campaign for his former colleague, Congressman Todd Tiahrt who is running for the U.S. Senate in Kansas.

"When you have (lawmakers) go back (home) and listen and see what the reactions are and also have an election coming up...I think they get a little cold feet."

Hastert thinks it's a mistake for politicians to be swayed from their own agenda by listening to what the people they represent want.

This is a good demonstration of why the real problem is not just the democrats in Washington.

The real problem is the arrogance of the professional Pols in both parties who think they are Royalty and that we, the people, are here to listen to them and take direction from them instead of the other way around.

This is why Republicans are out of power right now and it is why I do not think we can rely on them to return America to constitutional principals once voters throw Obama and the democrat majorities out of office.

Republicans and Democrats are just two branches of the Big Government party.

Pelosi has not "blown it" on Health Care yet. For all her insistence on the public option being included she knows that it is only necessary to get something passed under the rubric "Health Care" and they get it all. This thing has to be completely stopped, no compromise, no rump bill, nothing. There is no partial victory, no partial loss. For us it is either all or nothing. We had better make sure it is nothing. If this thing passes as a single page with nothing but platitudes on it, it is enough. It will be pumped back up in Reconciliation then added to with amendments and riders to every piece of legislation that comes out of either house. It will shortly be the whole 1000 pages of socialism and micro social control. The Reds only have to pass one of these things, HealthCare, Amnesty, Cap&Trade- only one- and they have put over the Revolution. We have to totally defeat every one of them. There is no going a little way to avert the whole thing, no compromise.

I completely agree with your comments. I have said before, that we have allowed a Political Class to develop in Washington. NOTHING will change until we have term limits and ALL existing Senators and Congressmen are voted out of office.

Denny Hastert knew of the Foley emails to adolescent pages for three years prior to the news of Foley's behavior becoming known in the final days of the '06 election.

Foley was a "chicken hawk". Hastert knew it for three years and did nothing.

That’s the reason that the forced the stimulus bill through without giving anyone time to read it. If people would have found out what it contained there would have been the same level of outrage that we’re seeing over Obamacare.
