TROY -- The Troy Police Department said this morning it will hold its first gun buy-back event Saturday.Firearms will be taken with no questions asked, Chief Nick Kaiser said. The person turning in the weapon will receive a $150 gift certificate to Crossgates Mall.
The gun buy-back will be held from noon-6 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Ave.
"The proliferation of illegal firearms on our streets is a serious threat to the safety of our residents and law enforcement officers,'' Kaiser said.
The Rensselaer County district attorney's office will not file weapons charges against those who turn in weapons.
"One act of trust in surrendering one illegal weapon can be the foundation for mutual respect, responsibility and cooperation," District Attorney Richard McNally said.
Police said rewards may be available for any information regarding gun trafficking or possession. Calls should be made to the Troy Police Special Operations Section Tip Line at 270-5004. Callers will be asked to leave a message with a phone number.
“I dont understand the term buy-back. Do these people believe the state owned the guns originally and buying them back?”
Just gettin’ the sheeple prepared for when they come and do the “take back.”
Is there a gun or ammo shop in Crossgates Mall?
Could be a good way to turn a piece of junk into a good rifle or some ammo.
In my state there are a lot of trash and junk firearms in the pawn shops for much, much less than $100.
When will these fools catch on to the fact that they have become a legal "fence" for criminals to steal guns and turn them in for monetary reimbursement? Sheesh, get a clue you liberal morons. (pardon the redundancy)
