The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition announces “Hall Pass on That,” the alternative to President Barack Obama’s September 8th address to school children across the nation. The group asks that schools who choose to participate in the president’s September 8th program offer an alternative to students and families who do not wish to view, or have their children view, a partisan address or participate in activities that did not follow proper educational protocol or obtain parental consent.

Dana Loesch, Nationwide spokesperson for the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, announced the launch of the Hall Pass on That website: http://www.hallpassonthat.com to provide parents who oppose the Department of Education’s proposed presidential program. “We are suggesting several action steps parents can take if they do not approve of their children participating in a partisan presentation conducted without their consent.” The four steps propose by the Coalition:

If nothing else, this outrage is waking people up to their total lack of control of our kids’ public school education. I hope it’s the beginning of us taking back our public schools, and not just a hard kick in the teeth to this Obamanation.

Probably the listed ideas are okay, but seems like you could just get into some kind of ‘issin’ contest with the administration. Just ask if they are showing it and if yes, ask what you need to do to have your child excused from the session.

I did this today; a polite and reasonable question to the elementary school principal; who indicated that the decision to participate or not was left to individual teachers, and provided their e-mail addresses for my convenience; the two teachers (4th grade and 1st grade) both responded promptly. The 1st grade teacher indicated that she and the other 1st grade teacher made the decision not to show it as 1st graders are too young ‘for this sort of thing’ as she put it (which I also agree with; but she didn’t indicate whether she agreed with the intrusion into her class time - interesting); the 4th grade teacher indicated that her class was actually in gym class at the time; the gym teacher indicated that he would not be participating in the event, but holding a regular session of gym class.

Nice and polite, always with the idea in mind that my children still need to show up there for the next 3 and 6 years, respectively.

In the event their teachers were participating, I would have taken them out for a short 45 minute or so treat of lunch outside of school.

Interestingly - school secretary said they were getting ‘pounded’ with phone calls; including about 50% dads (vs. moms) - who NEVER call.

Every red state/red precinct school administrator has to be cursing under their breath at the uproar and intrusion The One is causing at the beginning of a school year. The ‘easy’ parents who never bitch are coming down heavy on them; all at once.

Now, that said; if any of these teachers cross me, and show it to my children after telling me in writing they would not - THEN I will NOT be polite.

If I could trust this was innocuous, no big deal; but with no text issued in advance (and we all know he strays into la-la land when he goes off-script) I’m being put upon to ‘trust’ him; when the Dept of Ed. study materials are clearly disconcerting.

Don’t undermine my authority as a parent by sending my child home with materials to ‘teach me’ what they’ve learned.

If he thought that negative 14 rating from Rasmussen was bad last week; this ought to get him to about negative 24...

Glad to see your kids' teachers are so sensible.

Here is my recommendation to parents whos principles tell them they will be participating:

I would tell them they will not be attending class that day (or they would only be attending in the morning only) AND that they would also be absent on COUNT DAY.

Your tag-line is excellent! May I use it for a protest poster?
