A groundswell of parent opposition to President Barack Obama's speech next week to students on the importance of education has forced many North Texas school districts to question whether to air it live in classrooms.
Obama announced the speech weeks ago, but opposition and concerns spread rapidly Wednesday morning through conservative social networking Web sites and radio talk shows.
By midday, local school districts say, they were inundated with hundreds of phone calls from parents urging them to not show Obama's speech at school.
Some parents threatened to keep their children home from school if the video was aired.
"We had no idea that there would be a public outcry," said Laura Jobe, a Mesquite ISD spokeswoman. "It caught us by surprise."
Cody Cunningham of the McKinney ISD said: "We rarely hear of parents pulling children out of history or government classes where they're studying the politics or historical significance of a previous president."

If the school decides to show Obama's speech, then my son will have a doctor's appointment that day.
Call your elected school board member and complain, loudly.
The Childrens Story by James Clavell (author of Shogun and Nobel House). Mr. Clavell was very concerned about Big Brother brainwashing children.

I’m in the North Texas area and the school district that we are in has declined to show the speech. Got an email on it this morning. We are a rural, conservative area so I wasn’t surprised.
How utterly clueless are these people? This isn't about history or the politics of a former President.
This is a sitting POTUS spewing political propaganda to children without consent from their parents and the state controlled schools are willing dupes.
It's completely innapropriate and unheard of.
If Obammy is so concerned with children's education he should put his useless wife and her staff of 27 handlers to work on a national PSA campaign.
Damn White people again.

I couldn’t come up with a more disingenuous response if I tried.
“Cody” must be the NEA Obama-worship team leader.
Bump for later reading.
Wow. Keep your kids out of school. It is hazardous to their mind.
God bless North Texas.

Well there you go...when Obama is considered a 'previous president', we'll consider studying his mistakes, his wrongheaded path towards socialism, his attempts to eradicate American capitalism, his degrading/dissolving the American military might/mission.
Perhaps the future history teaching of his Impeachment, his Senate trial, may be a lesson to all would be 'Oneders'. That would definitely be a "historical significance of a previous president".
OTOH...we do not need our children to be exposed to an outright political 'stunt' that attempts to sway the minds of young impressionable students. To form their thinking process for future manipulations, to plant a liberal 'seed' in every household.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
Barack Obama is a fag.

Obama’s (first) speech will be harmless. He is counting on the brain-dead liberal teachers to do his dirty work for him. Thus the Dept. of Education issued “talking points”
Heads up to private religious schools, make sure you cover up any crosses, or images, that reflect your values, The President doesn’t like to address audiences where there are religious symbols, unless albeit it be of that glorious PEACEFUL religion......
I believe the headlinr should say. Fuehrer, not furor.
