What’s really wrong with the Cybersecurity bill?
Canada Free Press ^ | September 2, 2009 | Arthur Weinreb

A lot of attention has been paid in the last few days to US Senate bill S.773 that would give the president emergency powers to control private sector Internet sites.

Introduced in the spring by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa) and Olympia Snow (R-Me) the bill gives the president extraordinary powers to control private Internet sites in case of a cyber attack upon the United States. There is much opposition that has emerged recently both to the vagueness of the bill’s second draft and the proposed interference with private property rights, specifically the net.

I do not trust ANYONE in DC to use the right judgment in this case. The threat of a debilitating cyber attack is absolute HORSE$hit! There are thousands of cyber attacks every day and yet the net keeps working. The Goobermint has already established internet2 let them run their lame a$$ systems on it and they are free to do what they want - with THEIR system. Claiming ownership of the public square of free ideas in this century is a totalitarian move and COMPLETELY unnecessary.

“There is nothing unreasonable about giving the president the same type of power in the case of a cyber attack. Nor is it unreasonable to require employees of critical computer systems to be licensed.”

Yes, there is something wrong. Imposing another government licensing scheme is just wrong. Individual companies and owners of private computer equipment can respond more quickly and decisively than the government ever will hope to.
If you're concerned about critical infrastructure, take it off the Internet. If you're concerned about cyber attack, why not actually do something to the attackers for a change?
Hell, even punk kids launch attacks daily because they know they will suffer no consequences.

Last but not least, look no further than the DemonRAT leftist moonbats that are responsible for launching denial of service attacks on anyone they disagree with.

“The problem with this proposed legislation is that Barack Obama will not use it to go after America’s enemies but his enemies. It will be used to go after everyone from El Rushbo to those evil insurance companies. Obama simply cannot be trusted with the power he already has.”
Amen

Snow has become a real menace to Republicans. The house cleaning should continue and she should be ousted. If she won’t go she should be pushed; Steele should announce that no more Republican money will be sent her way.

This is dangerous to americans free speech. No question about it. If Obama were a rational and sane person i wouldn’t worry so much. But he has proved himself to be a bully and not one bit shy about squashing his political enemy’s in any way that he can.

There is no doubt in my mind some “crisis” will emerge that requires him to take action.

FR better have a contingency plan to et the word out ..
