LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Susan Atkins, a follower of mass killer Charles Manson convicted nearly four decades ago in some of the most notorious murders in U.S. history, lost her 18th bid for release on Wednesday.
Atkins -- terminally ill with brain cancer and, according to her attorney, paralyzed over much of her body -- was denied her freedom by the California Parole Board after a hearing at the prison where she is being held.
Now 61, Atkins was convicted in 1971 of taking part in seven "Manson Family" murders, including that of heavily pregnant actress Sharon Tate, the wife of filmmaker Roman Polanski.
Her death sentence was commuted to life in prison in 1972, when the California Supreme Court abolished capital punishment. Atkins will next be eligible for parole in 2012.
Manson became one of the 20th Century's most infamous criminals during the summer of 1969, when the Beatles-obsessed ex-convict directed his mostly young, female followers to murder seven people.

They ignored the desperate pleas from Sharon Tate. There’s no reason why we should hear hers.
I guess she should have committed her crimes in Scotland. Too bad for her.

IT lived 37 years too long!
She was denied “compassionate release” in July 2008 after she was diagnosed and given only months to live. Here we are 1 year and 2 months later and she is still clinging to life.
Now she can die in prison.
I hope this “terminally ill with cancer” stuff being used by the shysters doesn’t become a trend. It sure appears that way though.
Well, I’d say that just about wraps it up for Susan. She won’t make it to 2012.

Well, to me that means that she was sentenced to die in prison. So here she is.
All the Manson group, including Charlie should have been launched from earth after their trial so many years ago.
Sickening that they are still here from that temp legal loophole. It all should have been reversed and they should be history.

She might make it another year. Or she might make it a few weeks. But I seriously doubt she’ll make it to 2012.

how on earth did a bunch of fairly average to cute upper middle class girls come to live in a drug and orgy laden commune and take instructions to go out and kill wantonly from some little sawed off pervert who had been warped from watching mommy bang for cash in the bed next to him and spent most of his hillbilly upbringing in the joint
LSD in huge continuous doses helped but it was more than that..
