WH, Dept of Education Revise Language on Students Outlining How they Can “Help the President"

In an acknowledgment that the Department of Education provided lesson plans written somewhat inartfully, surrounding the President Obama’s speech to students next Tuesday, the White House today announced that it had rewritten one of the sections in question.

President Obama will talk to students from Pre K thru 12th grade about personal responsibility and the importance of staying in school, White House aides said.

As one of the preparatory materials for teachers provided by the Department of Education, students had been asked to, "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. “

Today, after Republicans accused the White House of trying to indoctrinate school children with liberal propaganda the White House and the Department of Education changed the section to now read, "Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short‐term and long‐term education goals.”

It's starting to sound like WWII Nazi Germany where they had the school children spy on their parents to see if their parent where sympathetic to the enemy or hiding Jews in their houses.

After seeing the headline on Drudge I went to my principal to find out what our school was planning to do.

She is a conservative but the superintendent is liberal.

She told me that the super had spoken to her about it but no details yet.

One of my colleagues husband is a BOE member and I chatted with him today regarding the bus trip to DC on Sept 12th. We also talked about this speech. I mentioned that at some of the web sites that allowed comments parents were talking about keeping their kids home. I told him I found the questions offensive and was torn between wanting to be here so I could counter some of his comments if need be, and not wanting to associate myself with that type of indocrination.

He saw some of the question the DOE had suggested.

He was ticked off bigtime, and told me he will have answers before the end of the day.
