The most precious resource in the world economy is human genius, which we may define as the ability to devise significant inventions that enhance survival and prosperity. At any one time, genius is embodied in just a few score thousand people, a creative minority that accounts for most human accomplishment and wealth. Cities and nations rise and thrive when they welcome entrepreneurial and technical genius; when they overtax, criminalize, or ostracize it, they wither.

How market capitalism saved the Jewish stateThe electronics industry in the US blew the doors off because of the need for miniaturized (and hardened) electronic guidance systems to save weight on American nuclear ballistic missiles. As a consequence, we also A) beat the world to the Moon, B) led the world in the personal computing, Internet/web, and digital everything (yes, I know, much of the stuff came from Japan, but loaded with US patents), and C) has revolutionized conventional warfare, transportation, and even our toasters.
