Parents' Bill of Rights for Texas Public Schools (re: Obama's 9/8 Speech)
Rep. Scott Hochberg Website ^ | 9/2/09 | Erkyl

Posted on 09/02/2009 3:52:15 PM PDT by erkyl

"The White House announced Wednesday that the president plans to tape a presidential address to public schoolchildren around the country to air at noon Tuesday (9/8). Along with advanced word of the speech, the U.S. Department of Education last week distributed a "menu of classroom activities" to teachers that aims to turn the speech into one of Mr. Obama's teachable moments."

"Rules For Radicals" explains that if you separate the child from the parent, you can educate(brainwash) the child and then you can win over the parents. Be assured that schools across the state of Texas will be participating in airing Obama's address to your children, without your consent or permission. They will be engaging in classroom exercises related to the President's speech. You will not have an opportunity to hear, interject or respond to anything the teacher chooses to say in connection with this presentation. Many liberal teachers will use this as an opportunity to promote, teach and support elements of the Obama agenda. However, parents have the legal right to pull their children out of such 'instructional activities,' as you will see below.

Scott Hochberg, TX District 137 State Representative passed the Parents' Bill of Rights and Responsibilities to protect parents in Texas from being left out of the education process. The information below is directly from his website:

Parents' Bill of Rights and Responsibilities

I believe that teachers and parents must work together to educate our children. Several years ago, I passed a Parents' Bill of Rights and Responsibilities to make sure that parents can participate in decisions made concerning their children in our public schools.

These rules, which have been modified several times since their original passage, are part of the Texas Education Code and as such, they must be observed by every Texas public school, including charter schools.

Please note that parents have other rights that are not specifically in this list. Local school boards also have policies that may include additional rights and procedures, as long they do not conflict with those listed below.

It is always best to bring concerns to the attention of local administrators and school board members before enlisting help from the state. If you have a problem with your school, talk the the principal or the person the principal designates. If you cannot resolve the situation at the school, contact the district superintendant's office. Ask how you can bring this issue to the attention of the district administration. If you still are unable to resolve the issue, your school board members are the local officials responsible for setting policy for the district. Your problem should be brought to your board member's attention.

If all attempts to resolve the problem fail, and you believe that either the Parents' Bill of Rights or another education law is being violated, you can contact the Texas Education Agency for guidance. They are the Texas agency responsible to assuring that school districts and charter schools follow Texas education laws.

The following is the section that addresses your rights as a parent to keep your child out of such instruction:

Exemption From Instruction

(a) A parent is entitled to remove the parent's child temporarily from a class or other school activity that conflicts with the parent's religious or moral beliefs if the parent presents or delivers to the teacher of the parent's child a written statement authorizing the removal of the child from the class or other school activity.

Please spread the word throughout Texas that legally, parents can exempt their children from this Presidential address. Perhaps the best route is to encourage superintendents of schools to opt out of airing the address altogether. Absent that, parents need to be armed with the correct information that permits them to pull their children out of this instructional time/activity.

Concerned parents should demand to see a copy of the speech (either transcript or video) prior to the actual day of the speech....(and then attend accordingly....

Seriously...my kids are all grown so I’m not sure what kind of stake I have here...but enough is enough. These people need to be shown that it is not ok to infiltrate or indoctrinate the innocence of those that are not theirs!

Scott Hochberg wrote this? He’s a liberal Dem. He probably had religious conservative “indoctrination” in mind when he introduced this.

You will not have an opportunity to hear, interject or respond to anything the teacher chooses to say in connection with this presentation.

PARENTS . . . . . WAKE UP!!!! Obama is trying to pervert and subjugate your kids.

Don't let him. Instead, accompany your children to school that day and sit in the classroom or whatever. As soon as he starts saying things that subjugate them or undermines your authority, stand up, grab your ki8d(s) by the hand and walk them to the principal's office. Tell the principal that you are taking your children home and why!!

If you aren't concerned about this speech to children, you should be. After you take your children home, you either start homeschooling them or, if you can afford it, enroll them in private school!!

Obama and the communists all know that if you control the children, you control the future.

Don't let him!!! RE-take control of your children and your family's authority to determine what you want them to hear and NOT hear, and what types of adults you want them to become!!!

I didn’t even look at his party affiliation. I was trying to find a link to the Parents’ Rights information I knew about. And, yes, it was probably intended to shut up Christians, but thankfully, we can all utilize it. I’ve had to use it to pull my daughter out of class when a parent was at school talking about Ramadan.
