I called my daughters school and sent emails to both teachers including the principal not to have them participate or I will keep them home.

Take it as a sign that your children do not belong in public school.

But because a protest based on just 2 kids wouldn't accomplish much except for my kids to get a day behind in studies.

Government schools are Socialist. Do you want your children to be products of a Socialist industry?

Obama is the CEO of your children's school as well as GM, Wallstreet etc. It is entirely fitting that the CEO address the institution. Don't protest. But escape while there is still time!

Maybe it would be instructive to have them dress up as black panthers, with billy clubs.

The first, national “Bring You IPod To School Day!” seems extremely appropriate.

The Gwinnett County Georgia schools could not guarantee that there would not be any retributions against my kids for not wanting to see obama.

I told them that I am going to hold my kids out of school because they could not protect my family’s Constitutional rights.

From what I have read, I would be less worried about Obama’s speech than about the ‘lesson plan’ activities that go along with it. I haven't seen Obama’s speech, of course, but I doubt he will say anything that could be used against him, so I am betting is will be vague generalities about the virtues of getting a good education. I would guess the speech will bore more students than it ‘inspires’.

The ‘lesson plan’ activities sound a lot worse. One of the ‘lesson plan’ activities is to have the students write an essay titled ‘What can I do to help my President’. Not ‘What can I do to help my Country’ or ‘My neighborhood’ or ‘My School’ or ‘My family’...NO! The Obama lesson plan wants students to think about what they can do to help ‘The President’. That kind of ‘cult of personality’ is something our schools should be teaching our children to guard against. NOTE: There are different ‘lesson plans’ for elementary, middle school, and high school. You can find them on the internet. Print a copy and have it in hand when you talk to the school again.

I suggest you call the school back and ask them if they intend to have the teachers lead a classroom discussion based on the ‘lesson plan’ the accompanies the President's speech, and/or if the students will be required to do any of the assignments suggested in the ‘Lesson Plan’.

If the school says they are only showing the speech, and are forgoing the pre and post speech ‘lesson plan’ activities, I would let my kids go.

However, If the school plans to use the ‘lesson plan’ activites, I would tell the school principal that you will not subject your children to that kind of propaganda and I would not let them attend. I would also call the district school admin office and each of the members of the board of education to complain.

Can you imagine the uproar has President Bush had ever desired to address the children of our nation? Hey if 0 attempts to talk healthcare it will backfire on him in a big way.

Your idea to call, email the WH is a good one in normal times but this commie admin will make note of your email and then stalk you. They can use your email to find out what sites you visit etc. You will end up on a list.

I bet the school that is taping to show a week later is just going to make it available to those who want to watch it and probably have something else for those who don’t wish to watch.

My question to you is why hold them out of school for this? What is the example we set by doing so? I have read the pre broadcast agenda and it doesn't look that terrible to me. Obummer can very easly turn this into an indoctrination broadcast or he could turn this into a civics lesson for all students on how to work with their government ( I know, I know its' wishful thinking but the agenda is rather vague on exact issues/topics to be discussed).

Granted I don't have children but if I did I think it would be better to allow them to see this and then discuss it with them afterwords to find out what was discussed/ what they took away from it.

I personally think children are smarter then adults given them credit for; but what do I know I'm a bachelor. Also if it turns out as bad as everyone is predicting; my imaginary children would never attend another broadcast and we would discuss and explain to them why they wouldn't be seeing another one.AWB

This is said to be a scrap of parchment that was found pinned inside the breast pocket of James Madison as he was laid to rest in his flowery bound retreat

If you WILLINGLY send your kids to public school, you are not a conservative. If you allow them to attend on Obama day you are a liberal.

Wow, do they really get money like this, based on day-to-day attendance?

You have two more days to get a response from the principal and/or school superintendent. Inform them of what's going on (they may not know) via an anonymous letter, then ask the principal to make it known to the parents if they plan NOT to broadcast Obama's speech. Some schools may NOT be participating anyway.

For me, if I hear no response by Friday 4 pm, we will enjoy a nice FOUR-DAY weekend. It's "unfortunate" that the kids got sick over the weekend and couldn't make it in on Tues, Sept 8. But instead, we'll really be at the museum or doing something TRULY educational.
Here's a letter to the principal ... with attachments:

I agree with your perspective 100%. But “tacitly” would mean approval by doing nothing. To allow ones child to attend would be to actively approve -in deed- and that’s all a slave need do.

Let them go. But, if their school shows it:
1. Call a meeting of opposed parents.
2. Find an appropriate response video (suggestions?).
3. Go en masse to the next school board meeting and demand that your response video be shown to all students.

Hold the school board members’ feet to a hot fire.

If I had children, I would hold them out for either part of the day when the speech is or the whole day. I am sure that I could coach them through their studies so they were not behind. It is only a few hours of school at most. The typical child will miss a lot more than that during cold and flu season.

It is important that we do what is within our power to stand for what is right. Having a marxist deliver propaganda to children is wrong and I would not participate or allow my children to be subjected to it.
