U.S. Death Toll at Record Low in Iraq, at Record High in Afghanistan

Fewer American troops died in Iraq during August than in any previous month since the U.S. invaded in March 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein. That is in stark contrast to the situation in Afghanistan, which saw its deadliest month since Operation Enduring Freedom began after 9/11.

Six U.S. soldiers died in Iraq during August, four of them in hostile circumstances.

The figure is a drop of 74 percent over the same month last year, when 23 deaths occurred, 14 of them in combat.

- In Afghanistan, where some 62,000 American and 35,000 allied troops are deployed, the trend continued in the opposite direction. Seventy-seven coalition troops were killed during August, one more than in the previous month, according to figures compiled by icasualties.org. Before July, no single month had seen a higher coalition death toll than 46, in August 2008.

Obama is going to take days to read a 20 page report about the situation in Iraq. He is going to review it during his vacation. We have soldiers in harms way and direction is needed from the Commander in Chief.

He is going to take days?

I suppose the lives of our soldiers is not near as important as Cap and Trade, Healthcare and the environment.

Twenty pages doesn’t sound like much of a report.

When I was nine I did a 12 page report for school about the State of Arizona.

What is taking so long?

We are losing in Afghan. Losing like the Russians did. A maddened bull charging the red flag of the matador.
