US warned of hero’s welcome for Pan Am 103 bomber (Holder discussed in June)

Attorney General Eric Holder warned his Scottish counterpart in June that the man convicted of blowing US-bound Pan Am Flight 103 out of the sky could get a hero’s welcome if allowed to return to Libya, according to the head of a group representing the families of victims.

Holder’s warning to Scotland’s justice secretary, Kenny MacAskill, came nearly two months before the bomber, Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, was released from a Scottish prison and greeted by a cheering crowd on his arrival in Libya last week.

Notes prepared ahead of Holder’s June 26 conversation with MacAskill were provided to the Associated Press by Frank Duggan, president of Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 Inc. Duggan said a Justice Department official read him notes that Holder used during the conversation.

Duggan also provided notes of a July 9 teleconference between MacAskill and some victims’ relatives, an emotional exchange in which family members told stories of their loved ones and implored MacAskill not to return Megrahi to Libya.

Scotland has faced unrelenting criticism from both the US government and the families of American victims of the airline bombing since the decision to free Megrahi on compassionate grounds. The Scots said he was dying of prostate cancer.

Tuesday, September 01, 2009 Of Course-- Team Obama Knew of Lockerbie Bomber's Release Months Ago

Did Team Obama Give Scottish Officials Their Blessing to Release the Lockerbie Bomber?

Will the state-run media investigate this?

The Lockerbie bomber who killed 169 Americans was released last month from prison in Scotland. Tonight he will be celebrated at Muammar Gaddafi's 40th Anniversary Extravaganza.

Now we know that the Obama Administration knew about the release of Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi months before he was freed. The Boston Globe reported that there were discussions between Attorney General Eric Holder and his Scottish counterpart back in June.

Hat Tip NDT

Scottish officials announced today that they will release all documents which they say justifies the decision to release the Lockerbie bomber on compassionate grounds.

What despicable rodents these people are .. to their core ... and to think they're actually in power as the current leaders of our dear country ....... so demented as to even consider granting mercy to this cold-blooded mass killer .. another twisted beast with dead eyes.

I pray this nightmare ends soon ... please God.

I am sure zer0 will be “very disturbed” by the celebration and threaten to cut off “talks” - could we have a weaker person in office on foreign policy? Recall all we had to do is start bombing Iraq and Libya came crying to Bush not to hurt them. What a difference an administration makes!

Attorney General Eric Holder warned his Scottish counterpart in June that the man convicted of blowing US-bound Pan Am Flight 103 out of the sky could get a hero’s welcome if allowed to return to Libya,

And then he gave the green light for his release? Was he winking when he said this?

Who would believe that Holder knew and Obama didn’t? Even with a double dose of gullible pills, I don’t know many people that dumb. What is needed is for the question to be broadly asked.

Holder helped in the pardon of Marc Rich. Why not this guy too?

And Eric Holder said that a more discreet celebration, given the enormity of the crimes, was to be preferred.

We must do something about the constipated United States press. The Scottish judge's full statement was published in the London Times August 20th http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article6803849.ece The Lame Stream Press used to old New York Times trick of not reporting important news until their client has prepared a response. Then it leads with the client's response to lighten the impact of the more important information. IN THIS INSTANCE THAT THE ADMINISTRATION KNEW ABOUT THE RELEASE AND DID NOT OBJECT TO THE RELEASE BUT TO THE CELEBRATION.

I could say what you describe is “nuanced,” but the truth is it’s complete and utter propaganda.

I don’t understand your comment. Could you elaborate? What’s “Its?”

Of course ostammer knew. It appears the administration was only concerned about appearances, not the substance of the question of the release.

This was being negotiated starting two years ago as part of a larger prisoner release deal, so what I want to know is does Megrahi actually even have cancer? Was the prostate cancer story just cover for the release to sweeten the oil deal? What did the administration get in return for acquiescing to the deal?
