China, Nuevo Leon - A murder in Mexico has ties to the Valley. Not only were the victims headed home after a shopping trip in the Valley, but their alleged killer was driving a van with Texas plates.
The shooting happened in the small town of China in Nuevo Leon state. It's along the highway connecting Monterrey to Reynosa.
Officials say a red van followed a group of women home after they left from a shopping trip in McAllen. When they got to China, a driver and passenger of that van opened fire. Two women died, six were hurt. The survivors thought soldiers shot at them because one gunman wore camouflage.
Mexican authorities arrested two men for the shooting. One of them was allegedly wearing a camouflage jacket and used an automatic weapon. The van was registered to an address in Mission.
Mexican authorities say because the victims originally accused soldiers, human rights officials are investigating. The names of the victims have not been officially released.

According to a military source, Juan Angel Rodriguez Ostiguin, 25, aka “The Conejo(Rabbit)” or “L35”, and Jose Luis Rodriguez Lozano, 18, aka “The Junior”, were Los Zetas, ordered by radio to attack the vehicle because a rival cartel member was inside.
