YOU CAN'T KEEP A BAD MAN DOWN: SPITZER IS EYEING A COMEBACK
NY Post ^ | September 1, 2009 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been privately talking with friends about a possible comeback, and is considering a run for statewide office next year, several sources told The Post.

Less than 18 months after he left Albany in a prostitution scandal, Spitzer has held informal discussions in recent weeks about the pos sibility of making a bid for state comptroller or the US Senate seat currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand, sources said.

The hooker-happy Demo crat has also discussed his own halfway-decent poll numbers in recent surveys, which have shown him more popular than Gov. Pat erson, whose own numbers have tanked.

"He's weighing it," said one source.

But Spitzer hasn't shown any interest in campaigning for the office he briefly held, sources said.

The sources stressed that Spitzer, who also served two terms as state attorney general before his landslide election as governor in 2006, has not engaged in any active discussions with political consultants.

Reached at his father's real-estate firm, where he has been working since he resigned as governor last spring, Spitzer declined comment.

But a source close to him insisted, "It's not true," and two other close associates also insisted he was not interested in running for office again and was looking at a range of other options.

Two sources said Spitzer had thought about a gamut of different electoral choices in his months of political exile.

But one ally insisted he's realized he can't do anything, at least not next year, saying, "There are people around him who want to see him [in office], and he sees himself there, too. He loves to be in the limelight. But he knows it can't happen."

Times are tough. His wife is beating up on him to "get back into something" so he can legally trash the charities that compete with the ones where she's a member of the board, or they pay her a retainer, or she has good friends there.

Those people!

And Elliott has got to do something NOW or she's going to rat him out on that and he'll go to jail ~ but she won't because she's a woman.

Yup. The Spitzers. Like the Madoff's but with less money.

This is perfect example of why the term ‘serving the public’ has essentially no meaning i politics anymore. It’s all about them.

Hey, it’s New York...I’d say he has a good chance since the people there don’t seem to care who they elect. Same with Massachusetts, but heck, that is another matter...

With Patterson's numbers, really not the guy to use as a benchmark.

I, too, like Spitzer (who is now harmless) more than Paterson (who is busy blowing New York up).

Is he moving to Massachusetts? Too bad Eliot. It looks like Massachusetts already has a disgraced sleazeball on deck.

In other polls, cholera has a slight popularity lead on the plague.

Spitzer is a disgusting, evil thug and a sleazeball as well.

Patterson may be a dipwad and incompetant but I don’t think he has evil intent as does Spitzer.

Spitzer needs to shut up and blow away.

Hard to understand I realize. We are better off with Patterson than Spitzer.

If Spitwad was still in office, it would be HIM blowing up NY. NY is a lost cause. It can not be saved.
