That is ridiculous, he did so poorly in the primary for the same reason that he has only won one election and then couldn't win reelection because his poll numbers were so low.

IN the end, I think that is the real problem he won’t be able to overcome.
It makes no difference what should be, or could be. Perception is reality when it comes to voting. If the voters won’t vote for you, there’s really nothing you can do about it.
It’s why I think Palin has a too-tough road to cross. She is loved by a solid minority, but hated or seen as a non-player by a solid majority. It will be hard for her to convert enough people from the 2nd group to end up with a majority of votes in national election, even if she might be able to get a primary victory.
