Romney said keeping hand in GOP '12 race (Desperate Mitt Alert)
UPI ^ | 30 AUGUST 2009 | UPI

Posted on 08/31/2009 8:38:40 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

BOSTON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Republican former U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is quietly raising millions of dollars as he prepares for the 2012 campaign, analysts say.

Observers say that since he lost the GOP presidential primaries last year, the former Massachusetts governor has shown his usual competitiveness and discipline in keeping his presidential aspirations in play, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"He lost a tough race," New Hampshire state Sen. Jeb Bradley, a Republican former member of the U.S. House, told the newspaper. "After that, Mitt could have done anything he wanted with his life: back to the non-profit world or start a new business. But what has he been doing? He's kept at it. He's been busting his butt since losing more than anyone I have ever seen."

ajay_kumar (RomneyBOT) "I resent the mindless attacks on Romney."

I hope no FReeper has attacked Romney 'mindlessly'.
Better to focus on Romney's proven malignant behavior.

For you, here are some mindful numbers (which you will ignore).

Willard "I am Myth" (aka "Brutus") Romney only got a "C" rating from CATO.

MINDFUL DATA FROM CATO INSTITUTE

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace."

So there it is. Massachusetts went to 48th among the states under Romney

Only a dedicated Romney knob-polisher could ignore that failure. You betcha.

Exactly where is WVKayaker wrong?

If he is wrong, then yes he is stupid, but if he is not, then the “stupid” lies else where.

As far as bigoted, you support Mitt because of his religion, to the point of overlooking the very obvious shortcomings he has, so what is the difference?

clamper1797 "The Mittwits could cost the us the 2012 election"

broncobilly (confused RomneyBOT): "The “Anybody but Mitts” cost us the last one."

Actually, it was Team Romney.

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 pts. days prior to September 18th, 2008.
So the RomneyTeam attacked Gov. Palin and her children to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician.
Let me say for the record: If Romney emerges as the Republican nominee, I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House,
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin.
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
He's in charge on November 5th.'"
The Prowler added: "Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Romney supporters in the McCain campaign had access to internal polling which indicated well in advance of the November 4 election that McCain had no chance to win.
So they began working to position their man Mitt for a run in 2012. Just two days after the election,The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
These aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"Here’s what I think: I think there are some staffers on the McCain campaign who seriously screwed up the roll out of Sarah Palin, to which Governor Palin herself objected.
These staffers are now out trying to finish her off thinking, as typical D.C. types do, that if they don’t do it to her, she’ll do it to them. They just never understood who Palin is or what she is about."
"Likewise, I do think there are some staffers and others who expect Mitt Romney to run again in 2012,
they decided McCain could not win, and decided to undermine Sarah Palin and her chances hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign? (Mark Wallace, Romney pimp)
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

I don’t have the belief in the magical abilities of Mitt Romney that you have.

Just as I don’t believe that Romney would have damaged the GOP in 2008 more than a McCain win would have.

Thanks. ROmney would have dissappointed me, to be sure, but I bet he would have been a lot more conservative than his detractors were certain of, and in that way it would have been fun watching them either have to admit that, or jumping through hoops trying NOT to admit that he was doing the conservative things he had promised and they had said were impossible.

In reality, whatever that thing he did which dissappointed me was, that would be what his detractors would focus on, just to keep their heads from exploding.

The drop of the 8 point lead following Team Romney’s
attacks on Gov. Palin and her defenseless children
show that Romney totally damaged the GOP.

Never forget? You betcha.

Of course somethings one does can over shadow their best efforts in other areas.

Romney is bad about that...

It only take one bullet to kill if the shot is good.

Right. Nothing to do with the multi-thousand point drop in the stock market, or McCain suspending his campaign to “fix” the problem, or the republican party capitulating on TARP.

Your Magic Romney intrigues me with his power and ability, far beyond those of mortal men.

Of course, your belief that Romney’s campaign led the attacks on Palin are quaint as well, but meaningless to the conversation.

You can blame Gibson and Couric for making Palin look foolish, or blame Palin for not handling it, or McCain for handcuffing her (that’s my theory); but if Palin was able to be taken down so easily, it’s not a good sign.

We’ve seen that before, good conservative leaders who make mistakes, slip up, support amnesty for illegals, or trade arms for hostages, stuff like that.

In time, some of them are still revered as great conservatives, others are never forgiven for their mistakes.

I’ve never had a President who did everything right, and I never will — just some who were a lot better than others.

Well, he’s proven himself to be King Midas in Reverse, without question. How he would’ve been in the general election would’ve taken a bad situation and made it even worse. He would’ve viscerally turned off the Conservative base, he would’ve chosen a RINO cypher running mate (a la Muffy Healey), and by the time the media was done highlighting his flipflopping record, his record on judicial appointments, Socialized medicine, his family’s refusal to put on the uniform, and his church (pointing out its exclusionary policies towards Blacks until fairly recently).

Ultimately, it would’ve caused even greater losses at the House level (probably 20+ more seats), and he would’ve failed to get a higher % of the vote than McCain did in ANY state, except perhaps Utah (though it might’ve been a wash, since non-Mormon Conservative Republicans would’ve likely matched Conservative voters elsewhere), my state wouldn’t have had the Republicans take over (McCain’s performance here in TN was like Nixon’s in ‘72 - opposite to the national tide). As for myself personally, some of my family, and a lot of folks I know would simply not have voted for the ticket, stayed home, or would’ve voted against it (even voting angrily for Zero) had Slick Willard been leading it, and that was that. If it’s a choice between two Socialists, better to have the openly-declared Democrat win, that way they can own it... as Zero has.

The difference between the attacks on Gov Palin by
Couric and Romney-the-backstabber is Romney was
allegedly with the GOP, but attacked her through
his operatives.

Cowardly. Disgusting. Reprehensible.

Attractive to RomneyBOTs, though.

Twist the words all you want, Romney attacked her
DURING ELECTION 2008. And everyone knows it.

"Of course, your belief that Romney’s campaign led the attacks on Palin are quaint as well, but meaningless to the conversation."

One more reminder of why the guy was a scumbag. He literally believed he made the right payoffs that he had the VP nomination in the bag, and when he didn't get it, he launched a full-on covert effort to attack Gov. Palin and her family (attacks which still persist). He simply couldn't allow the McCain-Palin ticket to win. Why ? Because that would've been his last chance for his obsession. He would've never been able to mount a bid to take down Palin (as either the sitting VP or President) in '12. He'd be too old and too "old news." Remember his goal was the White House in 1996, not all these years later, let alone 2012 or 2016.

Yet there are some so-called “leaders” that do everything wrong and inflict maximum damage. Some of them call themselves “Conservative Republicans” when their record screams “Socialist Democrat.”

You know, just making your words bold doesn’t embue them with any more truth.

There is no actual evidence for your assertions. A lot of people who didn’t like Mitt made a lot of accusations about things he did.
