Election For Kennedy Seat To Be Held Jan. 19th

Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick Announces Date Of Special Election To Fill Late Edward M. Kennedy's Senate

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says the special election to fill the seat of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

The primary election will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009.

Possible contenders include Kennedy's widow Vicki, nephew and former Rep. Joseph Kennedy, Attorney General Martha Coakley and several members of the state's congressional delegation, reports CBS station WBZ-TV in Boston.

Patrick says Vicki Kennedy has told him she is not interested in being appointed as an interim replacement.

Still unresolved is whether Massachusetts will change state law to let Patrick name an interim senator.

The Joint Committee on Election Law has scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 9 on the proposed change, requested by Kennedy before his death last week.

The bill would allow the governor to appoint a temporary senator to Kennedy's seat, once the filing date has passed for anyone who wants to run.

Carolyn can't run for anything unless she wines and dines a tax cheat and criminal a woman or child beater Al Sharpton. You can't call for him to resign because he may sprain an arm or be in need of knee surgery, I wouldn’t want to see our governor walking around with a cast on a PHONY sprain or surgery.

I think this would actually make it legal.

They probably tried to pull a fast one, but now they realize that they have to let the existing process run its course. They may have also realized that anyone wanting the seat would not want to be appointed if that appointment carried the stipulation that they could not run for the seat.
