The pasties have to cover the nipple, not the areola in toto. I don't see anything peeking out that couldn't be construed as something else. Remember, this is a relatively young woman who has burned her skin to a crisp. She's Stage 1 already!

There are going to be discolorations, rashes, and all sorts of stuff including seborrheic keratoses, and they develop the same sort of coloration you find the areola.

They readily form on points of the body that are most exposed ~ temples, breasts, backs of hands, that sort of thing.
