US commander General Stanley McChrystal - Afghanistan strategy is failing

The existing force is due to rise to 110,000, including 68,000 Americans, by the end of this year

Matt Spence in Washington and Deborah Haynes, Defence Correspondent

The campaign in Afghanistan is failing and the strategies in place must be revised, the commander of US and Nato forces said today.

General Stanley McChrystal described the situation in the country as "serious", but said success could be achieved there with a new approach.

Gen McChrystal today delivered the results of his 60-day strategic assessment to US and Nato commanders in a long-awaited review of strategy ordered by US Defence Secretary Robert Gates.

He said: "The situation in Afghanistan is serious, but success is achievable and demands a revised implementation strategy, commitment and resolve, and increased unity of effort."

Gen McChrystal made his comments as it emerged that two more British soldiers had been killed in Helmand. The men from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland were killed while on a foot patrol north of Lashkar Gah in Helmand province, the Ministry of Defence said.

Perhaps Obama should visit the troops to boost morale.

I’m wondering if O went into Afghanistan in a big way because (1) he made it a campaign issue that it was more important than Iraq, and hence his judgement is at stake, and (2) he thought it was basically won, and wouldn’t require much of an investment in troops or funds. Whoops.

It’s a quagmire. Obama’s war. What would victory look like? Is there an exit strategy?

Perhaps Obama should visit the troops to boost morale.

Too dangerous. Didn't he institute a 40 mile no fly zone around his Martha's Vineyard vacation site, whereas GWB used to used 3 to 10 miles?

Contrast the London Times headline with that of the New York Times

“Afghan War Is Serious but Winnable, Top General Says”

After almost 8 years there this is obvious. Afghanistan is not going to change and fighting a PC war there is just going to pile up US casualties. This is also besides the fact that we are losing the war here at home with the political aspect of Islam.

Well, at least the General didn’t say, “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel”.

Obama studied "Community Organazizing" not History or he would have known that Afghanistan has been chewing up and spitting out foreign armies since the time of Alexander the Great.

Watch for him to declare 'victory' and pull our guys out leaving the Brits, who obviously do have some History education to hold the bag for us. They'll bug out 6 months later.

In 5 years Al Queda will be running the place again.

Move the tribesmen into protected zones like we did in the Philippines during the Insurrection. Starve Al Qaeda out.

>US commander General Stanley McChrystal - Afghanistan strategy is failing

The Left seems to have
a particular hatred
for this general:

------------------------------------------------------

Moreover, not only has Obama not sacked the generals that are moving against him - as Lindorff insists he must - he has caved into the Generals' demands that he place General Stanley McChrystal in command of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

McChrystal is EVERYTHING that liberals HATE. He is a former commander of the super-secret DELTA FORCE - which is a force made up of people that James Petras, a retired Bartle Professor (Emeritus) of Sociology at Binghamton University, SUNY (State University of New York), has said -

"... ARE PSYCHOS ... You have to be a certified psychopath to join the Delta Force ..." [a comment that he says a number of senior officers at Fort Bragg once told him]. ...

NOTE: McChrystal is a close associate of General William Boykin. THESE MEN SEE THEMSELVES AS "CHRISTIAN WARRIORS" in the style depicted by both the book and the movie Gods and Generals starring Jeff Daniels and Robert Duvall. The movie was a blockbuster that appeared during the opening phase of Bush's War in Iraq. [Please see more information on Boykin in our articles, "The God-Men of America's New World Order System" and "The Evil in Our Midst."]

If the President brought the troops home, what would they do? There are no jobs for them and he would have a bunch of pissed off troops on his hands. Not something he wants to do.

Obama plans to win their hearts:

1. free medical care;
2. free house;
3. free car;
4. free food;
5. free big screen tv
6. free everything.

Is he still on vacation?

Who cares? The whole thing is a left wing fantasy lark, whether he's at the White House or somewhere else.

You mean kill our enemies and destory their ability to resist. How Clausewitzian.
