I had a chance to watch the Dick Cheney interview on yesterday's Fox News Sunday broadcast with host Chris Wallace, who was excellent as always. All I have to say is that I'm certainly glad I'm not on the bad side of Cheney, for he's what we in the military used to call "born again hard."
And this is why I really admire the guy and think that he's far more a figurative Prince Valiant than any sort of Prince of Darkness. Unless you happen to be an Al Qaeda baddie captured by American military or CIA-type forces, that is. Then, it'll be "cancel Christmas" for you for pretty much the rest of your life.
All of this brings me to yesterday's interview, and his very vigorous defense not only of the CIA (which its executive managerial element, to be honest, tried on many occasions to undercut President Bush and the fight against global terror) but also his calling out of a sitting President (Barack Obama) and his -- in Cheney's words -- "un-seriousness" about fighting such terror.
Cheney seems to get it, which is that the second you let somebody on the other side define harsh interrogation to be something called "torture" you begin to lose the argument. Having been through something called "survival, evasion, resistance and escape" courses in my own military career, I know harsh treatment. And what seems to have been done to these detainees was harsh, no doubt...
But torture?
Rather, I prefer the interpretation of retired colonels Leo Thorsness and Bud Day (Medals of Honor winners both), who take strong exception with Mr. Obama's stance on this issue along with respectfully disagreeing
with their fellow Vietnam War captive, Senator McCain. You can read their views here and here.

Cheney should have been President
He’s a killer, and that’s a good thing when it comes to protecting the country. :-)
LUV Cheney!!
LOL! Imagine what he’d have done to Al Qaeda if he’d had a good ticker ;-)
an Amen, Bro!
Cheney is without doubt one of the best leaders the country has seen, that never made it to the presidency. He is widely admired and loved by people that know him best, especially those from his home state of Wyoming. He is a no-nonsense westerner that puts the welfare of this nation at the forefront of his decision-making influence. I can’t think of a better man to handle the affairs of state after 911.
I love Vice-President Cheney.
I slept well at night knowing that very good men were prepared to do very bad things to very bad people to keep my family safe...
I laugh when I hear the childish attitude that: “we are better than this” or some other asinine notion that force is not the American way. Nonsense!
Force is the American way! The settlers to this country forced their will upon this country and woe to those that wanted to get in their way, be it man, beast or topography. We forced our will on all of them. Then we forced our will on Hitler, Stalin, Kruschev, and the rest of the tyrants including Saddam. Had we not forced our will around this globe, there would be few people outside of this great nation that would be free.
I applaud Cheney and anyone else with the gonads to stand up for this country in the face of Islam and the murderers that they perpetrate. This is not a criminal action like holding up a bank. These Islamic scum will kill every one of us if we give them an opportunity.
My thanks to Dick Cheney for recognizing and appreciating the risk that our country is in when we allow terrorists to dictate how we play the game. This is a game of survival and stopping mass murderers.
God bless Dick Cheney and the fearless men and women that serve this country.
Totally agree. He’s the best and the brightest, IMO.
Most of what went on to wring the stuff out of the 3 Gitmo residents who got the “torture” treatment was sheer bluff. A gun being shot in an adjacent empty room. Waterboarding with rag over face, which never got water in the lungs. Hollow walls that made an awesome boom when a head was smacked against them, but didn’t even bruise.
Now that Obama let the cats out of the bag, next time (and there WILL be a next time, the jihadis don’t give up easily) we may not be able to bluff the info out of the madmen. Skulls will get cracked, legs broken, prolonged electric shock administered. And Sarah Palin will just smile.
Yup, I get a laugh when I hear of this stuff being called “torture.” To me, it’s a just an attempt by the Left to neuter us as a nation even more than they’ve already tried.
Iran’s already basically blown us off, knowing we’re not going to do anything about their nuclear weapons program, and North Korea laughs at Obama.
What’s really hilarious is that the President thinks that all his appeasement will work with the jihadis out there. Really, all an appeaser is — in my opinion — is the person who keeps feeding the crocodile in hopes it’ll eat him last.
Barack Obama: Meet the jihadi crocodile.
I’ve been a fan of his for years. A few years ago I was honored and privileged to be chosen to greet him when he came to Los Angeles. In the few moments that I had with him, I realized that he was someone that you’d want to hang out with. Rarely do you meet someone that has a twinkle in their eyes, but VP Cheney is one. When I bubbled at being his fan he gave that famous grin/smile! Cloud 9 is insufficent to describe the elation I felt knowing that I had made him respond that way! Cheney is one of the greatest men, and VPs we’ve every had!
May God bless, protect and preserve Vice-President Dick Cheney.
I think I speak for a lot of conservatives when I say,
I only wish Mr.Cheney had been our candidate with Sarah
as his VP. Imagine Lynn Cheney as First Lady!
No pulled punches from any of them.
What goes 'round, comes 'round, eh fellas?
I prefer to call him the Dark Knight in opposition to Obama’s Joker.
