PBS's Moyers: Don't Compromise on ObamaCare, Defeat Would Reinvigorate Democrats
NewsBusters ^ | August 31, 2009 | Jeff Poor

Who needs to make health care Barack Obama's Waterloo, as Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. suggested? Why not make it the president's Alamo?

That's the advice PBS host Bill Moyers had for President Barack Obama in an appearance on HBO's August 28 "Real Time with Bill Maher." According to the former press secretary for President Lyndon B. Johnson, a defeat on health care/health insurance reform would do the left more good than crafting some sort of compromise.

PBS need to fire this guy. Let’s stop pretending that “public” broadcasting is anything other than leftwing propaganda.

I used to give money to these people, but stopped when they started to run down Reagan in the eighties. Why did they stop being politically neutral?

Historians may look back someday and decide the Second Civil War was begun
by Pres_ _ent Obama, his racist, crime-absolving AG, and his non-taxpaying Commissars
with PBS' Jim Lehrer advocating violence openly, on TV, across the country
demanding that Team Obama to "crack heads" to impose death panels
on ordinary real Americans.

>> Why not make it the president’s Alamo?

That’s fine by me! As long as that means that every single last one of the ‘Rats in the administration and congress goes down to defeat, just like the defenders of the Alamo all died.

Tell you what: in the saga of the real Alamo, the victory wasn’t at the Alamo. That was a huge defeat.

The victory came for the Texans later, because right and justice were on their side. But that WON’T happen for the ‘Rats. Because they’ll still be RATS (not Texans).

The Democrats suffer here from a numbers problem. 73% of the populace is comfortable with the health care they have. Among the 27% that remain, there's only a small percentage that feels any kind of urgency at all. Defeating health care simply isn't going to energize enough to be anything but an embarrasing defeat for Obama's signature issue. It will demoralize most of his most zealous backers. It will also kill some of their zeal for Cap and Trade.

Moyers is dreaming.

The Democrats have overwhelming control of Congress and they occupy the WH. They can pass anything they want. The Reps can’t stop them. The “problem” is the Dems themselves. How will a defeat energize the Dem base?

“Why did they stop being politically neutral?”

Because all things ‘public’ eventually get taken over by those on the left. It’s the venue that lets them feel best about themselves.

Especially this statement: "Much better for Barack Obama to go back to this public insurance for everybody - universal health care run by the government with tough cost controls to which everybody can join - employees and individuals, and which puts the care of the patient back in the hands of doctors." "...back in the hands of doctors"? Who is he kidding? Nothing of the kind would happen under ObamaCare. It would be placed in the hands of the government bureaucrat.

The Mexicans defeated the Texans at the Alamo. If ObamaCare goes down in flames, it will be his fellow Democrats. Using the Alamo analogy, it would be like the Texans defeating themselves without the Mexicans being involved.

I used to give money to these people, but stopped when they started to run down Reagan in the eighties.

I thought about stopping at about the same time when it seemed that every news article was slanted to decry the painful situation of the modern female-American.

All that whining got on my nerves.

But the final straw came during one of their fund-railing drives when they dissed John Philp Sousa.

That did it!

I called up their donation line and told them why I was topping my contributions.

I don't think they cared.

He is right. If they pass health care, ANY kind of health care, two things will happen.

First, those who were single-issue voters supporting health care will be “satisfied”, and won’t come out to vote, while those who hate the ObamaCare and want to stop it will be motivated to come out and vote. The worst thing for a politician is to lose an issue, especially if the issue is phony.

Second, it won’t work, so a lot of people who liked the idea will be upset and be motivated to come out and vote. If they compromise, those most supportive will assume the compromise broke it, and be mad at them. If they don’t compromise, everybody will know who broke health care and vote accordingly.

It’s why I think Reid is upset at so much media support for the “reconciliation” strategy. Without that, he can hold vote after vote, get his majority, but not pass anything — and then he can blame republicans.

But if reconciliation becomes “acceptable”, he’ll be castigated by his own side if he doesn’t use it — and he knows that passing this bill is the worst thing they could do for his re-election chances.

If you don’t object, I’d rather think of it as an angry horde of us Conservxicans kicking their butt from outside the walls, while (unlike in the real Alamo) the ‘Ratxans inside the walls are stabbing each other in the back with Bowie knives. :-)

Because Obama isn't Sam Houston. In fact he is much more like Santa Anna. He rules through terror and intimidation. But he doesn't know what to do when he is opposed by people who won't back down. At the Alamo he overreacted to Texican opposition and allowed his whole army to get bogged down when a small force could have besieged the fort. He also wasted a lot of men (20% of his force) taking a position of limited value. Finally his "No Prisoners" policy only lead to even fiercer resistance. As Sun Tzu states never fight an enemy when he is on dead ground. Then as Battle of San Jacinto, in a fight that lasted just eighteen minutes, his whole army panicked and ran when for the first time they were forced to fight on defense.

“Why not make it the president’s Alamo? “

interesting because one reason obamacare is going down is because people are concerned their healthcare will be rationed in favor of young illegals from mexico.
