PHOENIX -- An employee of a pawn shop shot and critically wounded one of two gunmen who had pointed a gun at a worker during a robbery attempt Sunday morning, Phoenix police said.

At about 11 a.m., two armed Hispanic men wearing masks entered Casa De Empeno Pawn Shop at 4126 W. Indian School Road. One of the gunmen pointed his weapon at the neck of a 15-year-old worker seated by the door, said Sgt. Andy Hill of the Phoenix Police Department.

The store manager stepped out and fired several shots at the robbers, Hill said. A bullet struck one of the robbers in the head and the other fled.

“Employee”? Wasn’t that the owner of the shop who shot the robbers?

It says “store manager”... so maybe not.

Seems to me attempting to rob a pawn shop is like trying to kick a junkyard dog.

I buy most of my guns at our local pawn/gun shop and the guys know me well and let me come behind the counter and on occasions peer into their safe to see what is coming out for sale soon. Aside from the fact that out of 5 employees working at least 3 are carrying openly, once you get behind the counter you see pistols laying everywhere within easy access. As stated they might as well have tried to rob an armored truck or a cop bar.
