U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint urged Aiken County Republicans to step up to the plate and fight for this country's freedom Friday.
"The debate now is between socialism and those who believe in freedom," DeMint said to the crowd gathered at the Aiken Municipal Building. "This is a unique country we need to fight for. We don't need to send people to fight and be killed and maimed if we don't fight here."
DeMint, R-S.C., was the featured speaker at the Aiken County Republican Party's Bronze Elephant Reception, capping off his statewide South Carolina on the Move Tour. Several Aiken City Council candidates and severak Congressional candidates attended as well.
DeMint has drawn national headlines recently for his stance on President Barack Obama's proposed health care reform legislation. According to Obama's website, the legislation includes plans to expand coverage, improve quality, lower costs, honor patient choice and hold insurance companies accountable.
"We don't need the government to take over our health system," DeMint said, which drew shouts of approval and applause from the audience. "I have said health care will be Obama's Waterloo.
"I left Washington a little down, thinking people wouldn't wake up. But then I saw the town hall meetings and people began asking me, 'What can I do?' You can do something here in Aiken - be engaged in the process. Organize the precincts here in Aiken. Get people to register to vote. We can turn the corner on this thing. And it is not going to be because of the people in Washington but because of the people in Aiken, North Augusta and Irmo."
After his speech, a crowd gathered around the senator to shake his hand and several expressed appreciation that the talk appeared to come from memory and without the use of a teleprompter, which Obama has relied on recently.
Aiken County Republican Party Chairman Dennis Saylor said this country needs more DeMints.
"He's a champion of our party, of our freedom. He's fighting for this country's freedom." Saylor said. "To be named by our president as a troublemaker, he's doing something right."
you bet your bootstraps !

How about Joining the March on Washington
I would gladly support this gentleman if he decided to run for the Presidency.
I'd really like to. But my schedule for Fri, 9/11 and Mon 9/14 is packed. I've known since this date was picked that I wouldn't be able to go. Wish they had picked 9/19.

Relied on RECENTLY? Obama is a stuttering, stammering drifting fool without it.

He appears to be the genuine article!
I wish y’all well. I’ll be praying for your safety.
Sounds like you work where I work. My work schedule won’t allow it either. Deliverables!
For all of y’all going we’ll be here to back you up or bail you out!
