Says Abuse of Detainees Helped al Qaeda Recruit Terrorists, But Opposes Investigation into "Enhanced" Interrogations.
BY MICHELLE LEVI
Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he thinks it is a "serious mistake" for the administration to focus on the past when investigating the interrogation techniques of the CIA under President Bush on "Face the Nation" Sunday. "For us now to go back, I think, would be a serious mistake.
"I believe that the president was right when he said we ought to go forward and not back. I worry about the morale and effectiveness of the CIA. I worry about this thing getting out of control," the Arizona senator said.
On "Fox News Sunday," former Vice Former Vice President Dick Cheney said that the president's decision to appoint a special prosecutor to review the Bush administration's interrogation strategies "offended the hell" out of him.
McCain admitted that he was "radically opposed" to the interrogation techniques of the former administration and said, "I think it harmed us."
Host Bob Schieffer asked if the senator agreed with Vice President Cheney that the interrogations produced helpful information for the United States in fighting terrorism.
"I think these interrogations once publicized helped al-Qaeda recruit. I got that from an al Qaeda operative in a prison camp in Iraq," McCain said. "I think the ability to work with our allies was harmed."

Well then I'd say that makes you a terrorist sympathizer senator.

What kind of ‘iron teeth’ is in lord McCain’s resolution/legislation regarding torture?
Just shut up, McCain, and worry about your own stupidity.
How dare he compare a terrorist who roams the globe targeting women and children in restaurants, school buses, and marketplaces....to a prisoner of war who wears his country's uniform!
It makes no sense, it takes away an honor from a soldier who bravely wears his country on his sleeve, and gives that honor to a man who hides amongst civilians.
What a selfish man, he trashes Pres Bush/VP Cheney, intell officers, and our troops, ALL FOR GOOD PRESS???????
Have you checked out the photo of Dick Cheney on the MSN.com website (where they show the headlines)? It looks as bad as your picture of “Juan McCain” in your post. Quite a difference from the angelic poses they show of Obama.
McCain is right and that is why we were attacked , in advance, on 9/11.
He's also hollering "Geneva Convention" at us again ~
Can McCain please tell us WHAT COUNTRY AlQaida came from and did they also sign the Geneva Conventions?
And when did they become our ally?
McCain admitted that he was “radically opposed” to the interrogation techniques of the former administration and said, “I think it harmed us.”
I'm almost happy he'll never become president (and hopefully Sarah Palin will).
I think it's the latter. Btw... these terrorists are war criminals and do not fall under the aegis of the Geneva Convention.
Almost?
Gotta part ways with you on that one I am afraid.
I am ecstatic that this nut will never become president.
Of course having the communist in the white House, is bad news for everyone, but that doesn't change the fact that McCain would have made a terrible president. He shouldn't even be in the US Senate.
How many American service men are in terrorists POW camps? Maybe one, all the others were butchered and slaughterd their captors.
Rasmussen Headline on June 05, 2007.
Arizona Poll: 24% Support Immigration Bill, 51% Have Unfavorable Opinion of McCain
The impact is even more noticeable on McCain who is now viewed favorably by just 47% of Arizona voters. Fifty-one percent (51%) have an unfavorable of their states Presidential hopeful. Just 15% now have a Very Favorable opinion of McCain while 22% have a Very Unfavorable view.
Note in passing which McCain should know: These prisoners are NOT covered by the Geneva Convention rules. This is why the clown was not elected President. He obviously lacks some basic understanding of events.
Make that 2.
I previously thought it was only PTSD. Now, I think he was brainwashed and reprogrammed to be the Sleeping” Hanoi Candidate (who has now been activated). MamaB, he is now much worse than simply a Lib/Matxist/ Commie Democrat; he is an infiltrator, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, working against his own country and people. I, too, voted for Palin.
Good. Let’s start a new party. Now, where are we going to get enough votes to win an election?
Parties be damned; vote CONSERVATIVE!
