I just read on another thread that the Vatican overturned the Church annulment of Joe Kennedy, Jr. and his wife, Sheila. Never heard that before.
I’ve been trying to remember all day who the 2nd generation Kennedy was who wanted his marriage annulled, but his wife wouldn’t go along with it. Maybe it was Joe Kennedy, Jr. She said if she did that, it would make their children illegitimate. Now, it seems that there could be exceptions (e.g. if there was also a civil ceremony).
Iam no expert on this despite my husband having to go through this annulment procedure, but his final decree came from the Vatican. So perhaps what happens is the Church courts take the testimony under oath as was in our case along with witnesses etc, and then the review is done at the Holy See where the final decree is granted. Maybe one more educated in this procedure and regulations could enlighten us. I too read where Joe’s annulment was overturned.
